Evil Dead Rise (2023)
A good horror movie but a bad Evil Dead
It is a good movie with a lot of stressfull moments and the CGI is impressive, it earned the good ratings people gave it. Though, in my opinion, it's too gory. And I'm far from being easily disturbed by that.
But
I came expecting an Evil Dead movie. And, with the exception of the origin of the monsters and a few references, there is nothing of the sort. Evil Dead is well known for its goofiness in each and every itteration. Here ? There is nothing.
So, if you want an horror movie and the sight of blood doesn't make you queasy, go for it. If you want an Evil Dead movie, you'll end like me : dissapointed and a little sad.
American Carnage (2022)
Not the best, not the worst
It doesn't revolutionize the genre of horror but it's still an interesting watch. It lacks a few more scenes for the plot to be a bit more fluid, though.
As it has already been said, the sound mixing is far from the best. More than once, the characters speaking is incomprehensible because of the ambiance sounds or sometimes, even without.
Big Mac is hilarious and he's the best part of the movie.
But ultimately, it could go without the 'all the white are evil incarnate and racist'. That would be passable if it brought something to the plot but no, you can take out any anti-white scene or conflicts and the movie would still be coherent.
We Have a Ghost (2023)
Good old ghost movie
A funny, wholesome story that may have already been done several times, yet it feels heartwarming and is entertaining. Nostalgia got me as the concept is quite Casper-ish. The main bad point is that there is nothing new but I would still recommend it.
It feels weird to see Anthony Mackie in this kind of movie after his role in The Avengers though but he still delivers nonetheless.
Also, I don't know of it's me but, while the main character's father and brother being obnoxious is nothing new, this time, they seem particularly dumb and unpleasant. Oh, and the love interest is an utter b*ch who try to be edgy.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
I tried,truly but...
It's impossible for me to finish this movie. The fighting scenes feel forced, the characters are bland and oh my god, the repeats !
I lasted 45 minutes and during this lapse of time, there were innumerable moments where it was just an imitation of the first Matrix: Neo's office being attacked, the mirror going liquid, the windmill shooting jumps, Neo and Morpheus fighting in a dojo (badly at that), etc, etc.
The movie even dares to try to make itself appear meta by mocking sequels while failing to create à good one.
That joker has already been done but it summarizes perfectly: Matrix Regurgitation.
The Good Doctor (2017)
Good start, Poor continuation
This series has a good starting pitch. The tribulations of dr Shaun Murphy are a delight to follow. But like any series that focus on character development, it needs to put their characters through various ups and downs. And sadly, while there was a few instances in the previous seasons, they decided to go woke at the beginning of season 4. If you're white and/or a man, they basically say that you're the root of the suffering of every minorities.
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Still good after all these years
Yes, it's an old movie and the horror scenes are a bit ridiculous but nonetheless, I can easily understand how it got an award. The werewolf transformation is particularly impression.
Little Monsters (2019)
Silly zombies
It certainly won't win any prize but it still is a good piece of entertainment. If you search for a good zombie flick with a nice side of humour and wholesomeness, this movie is for you.
