Prehistoric Planet (2022)
Must watch
It's about time we had something good that's up to date about Dinosaurs, the only thing that can make it better is to have David Attenborough narrating and as luck would have it, the show's creators agreed.
If you enjoyed the layout of the 'Planet' series' and you enjoy Dinosaurs, then this is a must watch.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
Refreshing
Luckily Ricky Gervais is around to remind everyone that comedy should be free from restraints and should absolutely challenge the topics which are pressing matters of the day. You'll either like it or you won't, thats whats great about comedy, horses for different courses and freedom of expression.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Unenjoyable
For a hardcore sci fi nerd like myself its always painful to have something like this come along. I was so excited to finally have a timeline of this era and that it might be a bit behind the scenes rather than at the front end ala Next Generation Picard.
What weve got though is some weird disjointed long form story arcs, I've rarely found myself interested and it breaks cardinal rules that should have been in place for such a show like randomly having 7 of 9 and the Borg Queen and having everything be dirty, dark and gloomy you've got a captain who can't follow any rules and actively hates them, its like if a child tried to recreate Han Solo for Star Trek.
I guess its just too difficult to just get the federation vs the Romulans in the Next Generation Picard universe. Instead we get a god awful Discovery and this weird ego based Picard? Thank god for Strange New Worlds, although they'll probably screw that up.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Its Star Trek Jim
I was smiling ear to ear. The credits intro was perfect, the music/sounds are on point, everything feels like real Star Trek. Time will tell, but the start was fantastic.
Debris (2021)
Poor writing and editing
If I didn't know better the show started at season 2, its really the best sum up.
It's a cool premise, but at no point in the first 3 episodes do you see the supposed images of the alien craft that broke up into the debris that impacts the earth sporadically. Constantly bombarded with music which completely ruins any mood that is set visually.
It's one of those shows that lambasts you with constant music because the director and sound crew have no idea how to illicit emotion from the poor screenplay.
I'm often left scratching my head how things like this make it past the pilot while great shows get cancelled left and right
Acting is ok but a bit hit and miss.
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
Intriguing
I found the first 2 episodes enjoyable, and I'm super interested to see how it progresses. There's some sporadic humour, just enough sci fi with the origins of the alien and its setting up 2 clear plot paths from 2 perspectives, 1 being from the alien and 1 from the government.
It's shot well and doesn't fall into the traps most shows like this do.
