Scorpion: Pilot (2014)
A show concerned with true genius but clearly without genius writers
The Pilot episode is a total mess.
It not only has bad acting but also a plot thats so crazy and over top that its almost pure satire. It tries to overload itself so hard with action that it forgets that sometimes less is more.
The basic idea is not bad but the way it is written is an insult to even average IQ (the measurement unit the show likes to flaunt every single chance).
Im a Software Dev and I immediately realized that the whole IT side of the plot made no sense what so ever. I dont doubt that other professions will feel similar about their side.
When the 197 IQ genius is stupid it becomes a bad joke.
Obviously it is hard to write something smarter than oneself. Even more so when the IQ they picked is so unbelievably high that the dude could probably invent all human inventions himself in one hour prep time in a cave. But anyway it quickly becomes apparent that the writers are not even able to wow the average viewer which is quite telling.
Black Adam (2022)
It's an ok movie
Its another bland DC movie. Nothing special, nothing thoughful but good to pass two hours of time.
The Rock is equally a point for the movie as he is a point against it. While his physique captures the spirit of black adam his acting performance does not. You cant unsee the Rock.
Apart from Pierce Brosnan who carries most of the quality parts of the movie, the rest of the cast just feels generic, uninspired and bland.
While the plot had great potential they somehow managed to turn it into nothing special. Like compared to Marvel nothing carries any weight, all tropes have already been there but executed in a better fashion. At points it feels like X-Men Apocalypse from wish coupled with Avengers Kindergarten. One of the last scenes where the people rally, something that should give you chills and make you overcome with joy is instead replaced with eyerolling and a trace of cringe.
Also the CGI looks terrible at times, escpecially to the end. Some video games have better quality.
Alltogether it works a movie, just not as a good one.
One of the highlights of the movie is the part where its over in the post credits scenes. Perhaps there is still hope for the DCEU.
Watch it, just not at the cinema!
The Circle (2017)
9/10 if you stop at 80% of the movie
Star cast. Topic as relevant as ever and a premise that is really good and scary at the same time because those things have gotten more relevant since the film came out five years ago. Perfect combination for a good movie with a valuable message right?
And the first 80% of the movie are. Your mind already draws a hundred scenarios of how this movie will conclude in a memorable fashion. But then it all starts to crumble.
Not only does the end feel rushed but it also disintegrates the entire credibility of what the movie tried to teach you.
If you read this; try stopping the movie at the point where Emma Watsons presentation has taken a tragic turn and leave it there.
(Or be brave and compare it to the ending youre about to witness a few minutes later and decide for yourself!)
The Contractor (2022)
Generic action movie carried by Chris Pine
As the title says. Generic mission, generic background, generic characters.
Its not a bad movie but not one I would recommend people that they have to see it.
It didnt help that the movie rushed the conclusion and made characters do things that make no sense.
Anyhow Chris Pine still saves the movie from being complete background noise.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Boring, uncreative and exhausting
There is never any really any sense of danger and the plot, if you can call it that, just quietly plays out. One of the few movies I wish was shorter.
Not even the dinosaurs were as good as in the earlier installments.
In the end its a sad waste of talented actors who combined with a little bit of nostalgia provide just enough to call it a movie.
Interceptor (2022)
Dumpster fire
- Bad acting, especially in the lead role, lots of staring, standing and doing a cool face
- Sprinkle in some metoo, mansplaining and stereotype
- The villian is super unoriginal, motivations are bs at best
- The whole Army, Government etc. Act extra useless and stupid for the plot
- Its one thing to introduce weakpoints to create a story, another one is create hardpoints in attempt to get ahead of critical viewers
Also were those stupid one liners and Chris Hemsworth cameos supposed to be funny? Only a husband of a main actor can make someome like him join that much cringe...
