Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
A brilliant film, and I should know
So many stabs at aspects of my life it is torture in a way, but even so I think the film is wonderful. Such depth and understanding. I can't recommend it highly enough.
I lack over 400 characters else the review will not be accepted? OK then ...
It ain't no fun to be afflicted with such a diagnosis of bipolar. Then again, my own diagnosis was similar yet perhaps more extreme. Even so, what does it matter? We are who we are.
I am in my 60s now and more stable than I have ever been in my whole life. My feet are firmly on solid ground, so I think. To portray such a life as I have led in a film of such short duration is masterful if you ask me.
Watch it and soak up the subtleties, as they are so very numerous.
Excellent.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Quite simply BRILLIANT!
This film has renewed my faith in movie making. There are still some really talented people out there, there must be. This film is a testament to it. I was really taken aback by how good it was.
There is so much in this film, so many references, so many tangents it could well have veered off on, but it didn't. It held itself together perfectly.
All the characters were well rounded, remarkably so. I wouldn't be surprised if other films were made off the back of the rich pickings found in this film. By this I mean in regard to the attractiveness of the personalities it so clearly defined.
I haven't seen a film of this calibre for quite some time.
Well done.
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Great acting, but ...
Jesus, there were so many holes in this. Look, I have watched countless films. This one was intriguing, fair enough, but nearly everything about it was staged nonsense. And the conclusion, the moral tale? Christ, you go look for it under some rock somewhere because wherever it resides was beyond me. Just nasty when there is no need for it. Just another depressing film, of which there are so many.
Do these actors really pay attention to the script? Do they see a deeper meaning the rest of us mortals somehow are not capable of deciphering? Why the hell would you take part in such a debacle. To pay the bills? Probably so.
Horrible, but not avoided. Watch it and look for some reason behind it all. I could see zilch.
Pil (2021)
I enjoyed it.
It had substance, grit and staying power, enough to interest me all the way to the end. Not bad at all.
I have seen so much worse. This film is well worth considering, in my opinion.
Death Wish (2018)
An Absolute Travesty
Diabolically bad. Dreadful. Everything about it is way below par. If you are going to make a remake, for goodness's sake make it at least watchable. I found this film an embarrassment.
