Satanic Hispanics (2022)
So Good
This is an excellent movie. I agree that it will become a cult classic. Wonderful acting, directing and writing. My Husband and I love that they rotated more serious stories with horror comedy.
All the 5 star reviews are really undeserved as this is a great horror anthology. Perfect amount of gore and story. Highly recommend to horror anthology enthusiasts or horror enthusiasts that like multiple genres of horror.
I hope this spurs more movies from these directors. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us in the coming years. I would actually like to see more from the traveler and what other stories he has to tell us!
Escape Room (2019)
Just watch the 97 movie Cube
When I watched this I asked Is this Cube lite? To which my husband and son laughed in agreement. Even reading the blurb of each movie is the same thing. Being only pg-13 this movie doesn't have the gore and total mind annihilating depth that Cube did. This movie is like your average white male, mediocre and predictable. I am sure this was made for pre-teen and teens to enjoy that want to watch a "scary" movie that cannot stomach gore or movies that you need to think about. If you want something more intriguing, psychological and unique and haven't seen Cube - watch it. You most likely will not be disappointed.
Saltburn (2023)
Acting is good
Heard the hype and I watched it. Knew all the "shocking" parts. Which were more just for shock value and to let you know he was playing a game of his construction. He was talented enough to move the family around like pawns.
This definitely had the Talented Mr. Ripley feeling with a better ending.
As an avid movie fan, it had some dark comedy moments, though not enough to make it enjoyable. As a fan of thrillers and horror, slow burn is not my cup of tea. Though I thoroughly enjoyed Hereditary.
The acting is fantastic, driven home by Rosamund Pike and Barry Keoghan.
Is this a movie I would watch again? Highly unlikely.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Not sorry I watched it
Is it a story that has been told before? Yes. Were parts exceedingly slow? Yes. I was able to fast forward without losing the storyline as the storyline is pretty predictable? It's a movie about people fighting for their freedom.
Yes. I agree with most that have said there was little to no character development. There is little that really bonds our hero's together, other than hey I am building this team.
In part two, I hope that slow-mo is not used for the action sequences as much as this one.
Visually the movie is pretty as was the epic music for the scoring. Acting is well done as I enjoy the work of most of the actors. I found it slightly hilarious that both characters that played Daario in GOT were in this movie. I am guessing from hints of this movie what part two is going to reveal. I will watch part two because I want to know if I am correct or not.
Lucy (2014)
Decent
It's a decent action movie. However the basis that we only use 10% of our brain is so erroneous that I could not enjoy the movie.
I am a huge Luc Besson fan. His is highly imaginative and simply a fabulous director. But as the erroneous fact is the basis of the movie it was very hard to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the movie.
The cinematography is indeed absolutely beautiful and visually stunning. Acting is good. I know it's supposed to be science fiction action. A human becoming a computer merging everything and being everywhere because of a drug is just a little too far out there for me. Even if we didn't use all our brain capacity how does a human turn into an AI. I need more information on how that works for the movie to be plausible to me.
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Now this is what I was waiting for!
Just like Hill House I will be watching this miniseries again. This is Mike Flanagan wheel house where his work shines the best. I wanted to like Bly Manor and Midnight Mass but they just didn't have the same creative effect for me as Hush, Doctor Sleep and Hill House.
This is beautifully dark and twisted. Poe's stories are pleasing bound together with gorgeous and gory stitches opulent to the eyes. Carla Gugino and Mark Hamill delivers delish performances.
It is fun to see him work with the same actors but loved the new additions as well. If you are a fan of Poe you will know what is coming but you will want to see the story unfold with a few heart tugging surprises along the way. 10/10!
The Nun II (2023)
Just not scary.
The use of so many horror tropes you could see them coming a mile away. I could almost nap during this movie. The acting was good but plot was super thin and had more holes than Swiss Cheese.
When the girls at the school pointed out the wine and then the nuns are talking about miracles in the train, I called the ending and then it took forever to get there.
However, the ending makes no sense if the demon was defeated how does it show up in the conjuring? Other than maybe Loraine warren is a descendent like sister Irene is, just jumbled and feels stuffed into the franchise. Glad Frenchy finds a family though and grows tomatoes. Good for him.
Chapelwaite (2021)
Why?
Why do they have to expand so much on a short story? They take one sentence and now it's a whole episode while rushing other things? Production value is high, good acting but I wished they kept more to the frame of the short story. Less Drama and more Horror please and thank you.
A short story doesn't need 10 episodes. One hour and 45 minute movie would have sufficed. Book has no daughters just Captian Boone and his man Cal. What is the obsession lately with turning short stories or films into longer versions that are hard to get through until quite a few episodes in - it should start there. Too much plot exposition without character building (which King is known for) is not a good thing.
Unwelcome (2022)
Like a Grimm Fairytale
This movie is so much fun! I feel like this is a dark fairy made for horror fans. A seriously unlucky couple moves to the country for peace and they get nothing but problems. It is a wonderful comeuppance story. The little people are amazing and reminds me of a Grimm Fairy Tale.
One of the better horror movies I have seen this year. My favorite genre is the Horror Comedy. This one definitely into that category but not directly in the middle. No animals die which is refreshing as many of the horror movies of late kills the dog. Horror movies do not need to kills animals as it is always about the body count. Most of the kills are on screen which is great as well. I do not understand why this movie has such a low rating other than non horror fans writing reviews.
It's an entertaining watch and worth watching a second time. So my husband and I will own it at some point.
Willow (2022)
I am a fan!
I am a fan of the original movie and of this tv series. It is great to see the old and new characters developing and unfolding each week. Stop comparing it to the original, nothing will ever compare to the original we all know this. However, the writing is good, acting is great and my new favorite character is Boorman. There is just enough camp and action to be in line with the original. It is fun and entertaining and fantasy is supposed to take you out of the real world which this does completely. Yes at times the pacing can be slow but it is a series and not a movie. Everything is moving towards a point and we are learning how the characters are related. I look forward to Mads return if they can make it happen.
Smile (2022)
I recommend going in with no expectations
Watched Smile over the long weekend. I got the impression it was a horror comedy from the trailers. It is not, the movie takes itself seriously. However, I did end up laughing anyway at some of the absurdness. It is very formulaic and predictable making hard to suspend my disbelief. The acting is decent but I found it very hard to connect with any of the characters, there is barely enough character development to even find them interesting. Had it been a horror comedy and not taken itself so seriously, I might've really enjoyed it. There is a bit of animal violence but it is incredibly fake. Overall I'm not upset that I watched it but not something I would rewatch.
The Lost City (2022)
Fun
Some great lines, predictable yes but who cares. I've never wanted a sequel more, well maybe the heat. But I know she doesn't do them. If you want a movie to make you laugh, it's quirky and fun!
