Fainaru fantajî VII (1997)
One Of The Classics
I don't think that any game in history will ever quite match Final Fantasy VII in both hype and grandeur.
I remember when I first saw a commercial on television for Final Fantasy VII (FF7). It was awe-inspiring. The last game, FF6, was on the Super Nintendo, and while that game is still a classic, visually it could never come close to what FF7 brought to the screen over it's 3-disk set.
Story wise, I had never played a game with as much depth and as much emotion as FF7 before. People live, people die, and the world around changes with every step you take.
Suffice to say, Final Fantasy VII was a culture-changing phenomenon. It changed people's ideas of what a video game could and should be.
Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
Bad Writing+Bad Acting=Just Another Haunted House
A remake of the 1960 film of the same name, Thirteen Ghosts' premise has been spoofed on so many times few remember the original film. And this remake will probably also be forgotten easily. Bad writing topped off by bad acting turn what could have been a great scary movie into yet another bloody, pointless mess. F. Murray Abraham (Star Trek: Insurrection) gives the best performance of the film, but that's not saying much. Matthew Lillard (Scream) was annoying from start to finish. Others like Tony Shalhoub (The Siege, Men in Black) and Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie 1&2) are just there to scream when the special effects pop up on the screen.
And the special effects were this films only real saving grace. The house in simply beautiful, and the ghosts truly are scary looking. How sad that they were wasted on such a convoluted plot.
Summary: Not a movie for the kiddies or people who like well-thought-out plots, but if you like blood and a few surprises, it may be worth a look for you.
