Vice Versa (1988)
Good as a kid, great as an adult.
I vaguely remember enjoying this film as a child. Watching it a 2nd time now as a middle-aged man sheds a whole new light on this outstanding piece of work. There are parts that I'm sure I didn't find humorous back then that were absolutely hysterical this time around. Very subtle adult themes that went over my head now struck me as very clever.
I'm very happy to have stumbled upon this movie again. I highly recommend this film, especially to those that remember viewing it back in the 80's. I've found it to be more enjoyable than Big or any of the other body swap movies of that time.
Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster (2010)
I wish we never watched this movie.
My son, who is almost 5, has watched many scooby doo cartoons.
A few nights ago, we rented this non-cartoon movie from that box that is red. ;) What a mistake that was... now he refuses to walk into certain parts of our home without holding our hand, even when it's 1pm!!! It's ridiculous. Before your brain starts to go there, my son is not a weenie kid. He enjoys big dogs, playing hide and seek in the dark basement, and roller coasters. Judging by the way he is acting, I doubt he'll like any of these things from now on. Very sad for me - his dad.
Don't risk it like I did. If you have young children, I would highly advise passing on this movie!
Fireproof (2008)
To the haters...
The message of the movie is not that you must be a Christian for your marriage to succeed. It is that if you are truly selfless and unconditionally love your partner as much as, or more than you love yourself, your partner may end up giving you all the respect that you so desire.
Yes, the acting is amateurish. Yes, the movie can be preachy. Yes, they are only showing the man's perspective and ignore the woman's faults. Yes, it has flaws and could be better. But when it comes down to it, if you're married, this movie should be a must watch. As a man, I try to watch it once in a while to remind myself how to treat the love of my life.
