Alice, Darling (2022)
Very deep although uneventful
This movie is very boring or very deep, depending on your perspective. Not a lot happens in the movie, yet Alice takes a huge leap and goes through a very important journey of her life. For someone who can relate to her, this movie is deeply emotional and heartbreaking. Then there are also those who have never been in a toxic relationship like that and will say "This movie makes no sense. If I was her I would have left him already" without knowing how realistic it is to get stuck in that spiral she's in. At one point she tells her friends "It's not like he's hurting me" and tries to kinda laugh it off while her friends are giving her that look of judgement that you just can't stand while in her situation. That's what you tell yourself. "It's okay because at least he has never punched me". He is hurting her all the time, slowly killing her, although it isn't physically.
For me personally, it especially pierced right through me when her boyfriend called her selfish, and seeing how she kept apologizing and agreeing with him that she was wrong. That's how they do it. They charm you, isolate you from friends and family, break you down and rewrites your personality until you see yourself as a victim that can never do anything right. Because he's always right, and you're always at fault. That's why she can't leave. He's made her believe she's nothing without him and no one else will ever love her because she's not good enough for anyone else.
So yeah, this got deep didn't it?
As a review of the movie itself from another perspective: Although deep and involving outstanding acting, I feel like it lacked something. I wasn't completely satisfied in the end so to me it was quite mediocre. But the realness and relatability of it, along with the acting and story itself, made it worth the watch for sure.
Zoo (2018)
I like different
Even though many seem to find this movie weak and failing in many regards, I think it was quite moving. Sure, it has its faults like most movies do, but the ending is what truly got me. I was afraid this one would have a bad or frustrating ending but it didn't disappoint me. If the ending would have been different though, this might have been one of those movies that you just forget with time.
Another very strong and great positive about the movie, like many others have mentioned, is the cinematography. Beautiful shots and the lighting in some scenes is fantastic. Thanks to this you kinda forget that the entire movie is set in a small apartment.
I do however feel like the characters, other than the couple, were just weird in a way that made the movie less "realistic" (not that a zombie apocalypse is realistic anyways but I hope you know what I mean)
Overall a beautiful and different love story.. Involving some zombies.
Pesthauch der Menschlichkeit (2018)
Wonderfully gross
This is one of those movies that leaves you thinking "What did I just watch and why?" I was kinda disgusted with myself after having seen that entire torture scene and I'm not a fan of the parts involving poop and definitely not the animal cruelty.
The little amount of dialogue that existed just didn't make any sense whatsoever and you don't feel for the characters at all since they never give you any background to who they are and two of them don't even have a single line during the entire movie, BUT... For a person who is a fan of disgusting, gruesome horror and the macabre, this is definitely worth a watch. But let's just say, it's not for the faint of heart.
Kanojo (2021)
A beautiful melancholic story
This movie is exactly what I'm always looking for. The atmosphere, the acting, the script. It's all so genuine and real somehow. The chemistry between the two women, although toxic, is absolutely beautiful. There was nothing I didn't like about it except some scenes in the beginning were kinda dragged out so I got a bit bored at times. But the rest makes up for it. Perfect movie for someone who's into real, dark, beautiful and genuine rather than hollywood clichés!
