Waco: American Apocalypse (2023)
Views and history from both sides
Yes, David Koresh had broken many laws. Supposedly. They say he had wives of 14 years old and maybe younger. They suspected a stockpile of weapons. But, Koresh could have been picked up on one of his morning jogs, rather than the way it was handled.
What stands out most is how the FBI and others, after 30 years, have an attitude that they were in the right. They are aghast that those Davidians fired, killing 2 agents. No mayter they stormed the place without notice, killing and wounding several Davidians.
The negotiator and the newsman seem to be the only civilians that showed any care or sympathy.
Without Evidence (1995)
True Story
A bit of bad marketing to sell the movie. Someone put Angelina Jolie on the cover, as if she's seen a lot. No, she's a minor druggie, but connected to the unsavory folks.
Is it fast paced and glitzy? No. Is it dark and grainy? A bit. So what? Now on to the story:
A tragic story of the new Administrator discovering huge corruption in the Oregon Corrections system. He was really awkwardly murdered. Of course there is a patsy, men with cash in bags, another death, twists and frustration along the way.
Since this movie, the innocent man that spent 30 years in prison has had his conviction overturned. Even Michael's family knew he didn't do it.
Apparently there was a gritty version that ended up being sanitized. If anyone has access to "Gathering Evidence," I want to know.
If you live in Oregon, or are interested in this subject, it's worth a watch. Maybe you will know some of the people, as I believe most real names are used.
Almost Paradise: Lone Wolf (2020)
Any ep with Christian Kane singing is good. Encore!
Fun show with drama, yes, but a wicked sense of humor. Let's hope he doesn't "get the girl," because that always destroys the series.
Meanwhile, I am very captivated by Ernesto's giant, 70's, bloated-Elvis- glasses, though his were tinted. Why such large glasses on a finely sculpted face? Don't they have a modern optical biz on the island? Has he heard of online eyeglass stores? These are the questions that keep me riveted. Also, will there ever be a sale at the gift shop? Is there a toilet or shower? Will Kai ever stop being angry? Did "Alex" sing his part AND the guest's? Sounded possible. And will they please keep showing peeks of the tats, and the lip scar from Second Hand Lions!
But seriously, love Dean Devlin, love his works, including this one.
Christian Kane: An Entertainer (2010)
A fun look from the fans' viewpoint
Three different fans give their opinions on Christian Kane, Entertainer.
The director is a young filmmaker from the Portland Oregon area where the TNT television show Leverage started filming in it's second season. After the third season of Leverage completed filming, actor, singer and entertainer Christian Kane set out for his fall 2010 concert tour.
The concert scenes here were filmed 11/20/10 at Kahneeta Hotel and Casino in Warm Springs, Oregon, and on 11/21/10 at Dante's, the venue best known here for hosting "The House Rules," video in Portland, Oregon.
Nik captures the opinions of Christian's music and acting from three very different fans. While only around 10 minutes in length, you glean knowledge of the entertainer's career and abilities as a singer, song writer and actor. The director keeps the action moving and does not bog down the Q&A sessions by showing the questions being asked and repeated. This makes the video clean, causing it to move at a brisk pace. Interspersed with concert footage, it's a nice calling card to Christian Kane, Entertainer.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
It's all about the eyeliner..
Face it, we have to see this movie because we want to see Johnny Depp and Keith Richards. However, the fun of the first movie left with #2 and this one is more convoluted than that.
The very first thing is a huge public hanging. Rows and rows of people stepping up to be hung, including a child. They "finally" start singing while in line for their death. This seems to relieve the military... don't know why. This seriously could have been cut. Yeah, the government hates pirates and hangs anyone who every sailed with one, was born to one, yada yada.
Singapore? Totally a waste. There's a crew loaned to our friends by Chow Yun Fat, but again, not needed to advance the plot, and they seem to have an inconsistent presence.
Is Will Turner a traitor all the time? Part of the time? Never? Or just really clever? Hard to know. I think he is on the opposite side of Jack Sparrow the entire movie, even as he gets stabbed in the end and has to be saved by Jack, sort of. And while Elizabeth seems to take any side against Will that she can, she marries him the first time he asks while in the middle of a battle ("Captain Barbossa, will you marry us?") When Elizabeth & Will are given a small boast to go ashore for a honeymoon (deserted island)there's Will's boat in the distance, the one he has to return to without Elizabeth. However, no such craft awaits her. How is she getting off the flippin' island? I tried to stay through the credits, but finally gave up. I don't know what the surprise is... sorry.
