The Following Events Are Based on a Pack of Lies (2023)
Triggering for those in, or have been in a DV relationships, or are experiencing any abuse from a 'man'
This was a wonderful series, the acting is great, the scipt wonderfully written.
Most of all is the insight into how these 'men', predators work. From their recognition and attraction to vulnerability, they will honeymoon you then once you are dependent send you on the rollercoaster ride of gaslighting, manipulation, deceptiveness and if all that fails threats and violence. They will deny your reality and and quickly become the 'victim'. Expert story telling in this TV production...I will be looking up the writer and their experiences that lead to this great series.
Whether you are rich or living on a council estate far too many of us women encounter these 'men'. When we speak out we are made to look 'crazy', irrational. The police and other services unable to protect us, even if they wanted too.
2 women a week die in the UK at the hands of these 'men', laws need to change, women need to be better protected. These 'men' are not just our intimate partners, or our family members. They are also our neighbours, that 'man in the pub/shop' that takes a fancy to you. If it is not a partner or relation, there are virtually no laws to protect you, it is a 'civil matter' the police will tell you. Been stalked, threatened and harassed by a 'man' who threatens to kill you is a 'civil matter', or you are asked to 'behave', 'what do you do to encourage him'. Its 2023 people, no woman should have to go through any of this.
If you made it this far, and are going through any of this please speak out, call womens aid, local womens charities, the police but please most importantly know you are not alone. Much Love to all.
Depp V Heard (2023)
Netfix/Channel4 makes a sensationalist Docu about sensationalist media
I have to write something. So here goes, the Docu, if I can call it that edited and clipped in a way to 'try' and show how the mass 'media', forced a view point through editing and clipping.
They even said how many people watched it world wide, and attempted to 'sell' a story of greed and profit. Heard was found to be guilty of defamation by a jury of her peers. The public merely watched and talked about it.
The end where they slipped in the text messages about the plane incident, the quickly and quitely said, that it was not allowed in because it was not in its' original format, sums up the whole thing.
Look I am a survivor, I went in believing the woman, throughout I was triggred by Ms. Heards behavior on the stand, many times resembling my EXs' victim 'mode' and 'making up' of how it was really him that was the hurt one, whilst I was the one on the floor in tears, 'Look what you made me do' and the 'gaslighting!!!' Maybe this would have been a more interesting story or Docu , why women who previously supported Heard turned once she hit that stand? It was not through editing and false prophets on social media, or sensationalism and a love for Depp, I can take him or leave him. It was because she triggered that memeory in many of us who have looked into the eyes of our abuser and saw the same in her.
Oh, I do also think there was some mutual abuse, whether that be reactive on Depps side, we will never know.
Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023)
Was it just me...Waiting fot the apocalypse, the announcement that Thatcher had won the election.
I think this is where Brooker was heading with this one; those in the know, or just enjoying the satire waiting for the announcement, the end of the world/Britain.
Many racist words/phrases spoken in this episode common place now amongst the Tory party, tabloid news papers and others claiming to have our best interests at heart. It all began with that announment in 1979.
From Stork margarine tubs, Sapphire and Steele to NF plastered over every spare gate, wall in the north. Booker did an amazing job at capturing our childhoods and the pending doom that was 1979, when the devil/Thatcher/Tories first took grip our our country and brought about the hell we live in today.
Amazing social commentary yet again from Mr. Brooker. My wish for the future is at least one episode where he gets Chris Morris to co-write along side him.
Elvis (2022)
Could not get through this 'clickbait film', I just could not be bothered.
I was really looking forward to seeing this film, and I may be in a minority, but I thought it was awful. It felt like it was edited for the youtube, 'clickbait' viewer. Elvis' early life, Elvis discovered; Elvis makes a record; Elvis makes movies; Elvis joins the army; Elvis' mum dies; Elvis meets and marries Pricila, Elvis as a baby and on and on in the first hour. This occurs very quickly whilst a fat old looking Tom Hanks, narrates as if from sidelines, like some kind of dissociated voyeur.
I myself am a very divergent clicker, I can lose hours clicking from one thing to another, all related to each other, yet seemingly unrealted, giving me a fuller picture of an idea, a person and so on. My ADD makes me the perfect audience for this kind of story telling and editing; concise, quick information then onto the next, however I need to feel something, I need to bothered. I was bored and found myself looking anywhere except the screen too much, I left an hour in.
Maybe I will give it another go in the future, I may come back and edit my review, but for now all I can say is, Elvis fans may love this new take on a story told many times. I myself can sit through and adore, many other very long running great films, but my attention span could not handle this, I just could not be bothered.
Edit: I just read it was made by the guy who made The Great Gatsby, makes sense now, I could not get through that mess of a film either.
Players (2022)
Watch a quick beginners guide to League of Legends!
Absolutely amazing show. Please let there be a 2nd season. Absolutely hated the lead CreamCheese to start off with, and nearly turned it off, so glad I did not, you'll love him by the end.
I am not the age demographic for this show, but I am a gamer. I do not play MOBA's, so 2 episodes in I watched a quick beginners guide to League of Legends. I highly recommend you do this if you do not play MOBA's. Totally easy to pick up the game and the terms, and doing so adds so much more to the show. As you can not really appreciate a footy match without knowing the basic rules, the same goes for League of Legends.
