The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Shame on me for not watching it till now!
What a masterpiece! And to imagine, it was produced in the late '90s/ early '00s. Apart from the magnificient and fascinating landscape, the whole concept is of another level. I watched a movie of 3 hours and 20 minutes ( i think i watched the extented version ) and didn't get bored for a second, the whole thing was so well thought, from the landscapes, to the visual effects, I really can't understand how did they shoot this thing in those years when technology was at its beginnings. Also you could feel the relation created between different characters, the acting of Elijah Woods was great - the way Frodo's face expression changed from the beginning(a cheerful young boy) to the end (a hopeless person, as Bilbo said it was a big burden for him to hold). For me it was a great movie to watch. Let's see the 2 others.
Istanbul Için Son Çagri (2023)
Gave a 6 just for Kivanç and Beren
Here's not much to say, the story is so simple and so unattractive that it even fades the great chemistry that these actors used to have. Both Kivanç and Beren are great actors and they deserve a better plot. I know we're accustomed to those typical dramas and they wanted to do something different but the beginning was a bit unbearable for me, don't know why, just didn't gave the click needed to attract my immediate attention. The whole thing looked vague. The production was more concerned on showing us New York's sights than focusing on the characters or the story. Also what about that ending?! Ok Kivanç and Beren act really good but it was so cheap, unmeaningful, the typical airport scene. Wish they had gone for a different ending so they could make a part 2.
Terzi (2023)
Season 3 A BIG Disappointment!!!
So I started season 1 when the second had just been released and watched them together. I liked the story overall even though in general the show looks a bit "pale" relating to the vibe turkish shows usually transmit. Anyway I think the second season was good and elevated the show overall, audience reception reflected that, the show was on top 10 of more than 30/40 countries for days. In the last episode of 2nd season, a fast sequence containing events from 3rd season was shown, I got very exicted and was waiting impatently for the next season. It was released sooner that I thought and watched it immediately, all episodes in one day, they were quite short. I could make a list of things I didn't like but just going to describe them shorty.
First of all, the thing that disturbed me a lot was how did the movement to USA of Esvet and Dimitry occupy 3/4 of this season's episodes. I mean till the end of 6th episode: especially Dimitry the time was repeating sequence after sequence how he was about to move to USA with "his dear wife".
Secondly, the reason they canceled the trip to USA was so pathetic and cheap. Because Mustafa and Kiraz decided to get married at the very last minute! How funny! Dimitry had in his mind 24/7 the idea and fear that Esvet and Peyami could be together and finally when he was about to leave once and for all, just for Mustafa he cancels his plans. What a joke! Like he cared that much for Mustafa. The scriptwriters should have found a better reason for them not going to USA.
Another thing disturbing me was how bas was Peyami's character written. We know he had a special bond with Dimitry but damn he got crazy when though Esvet was leaving and yet he didn't do nothing to stop her, in the entire show not only this season we didn't see him do something significant for his love for Esvet! Like he says in every episode how much he loves her and I know his character is like this but logically his love for Esvet should have changed him and make him more curagious to confront Dimitry but no! He's the same coward from the beginning till the end of the show. His and Esvet's love in all 3 seasons was described as a love at first sight, a strong love that can survive everything but we didn't end up watching concretely this great love, we don't have a scene which can demostrate it.
The final scene between the 3 of them was elevated only by the acting of Salih Bademci, I must say he has hold the entire show in his shoulders. Very dissapointed how Çagatay accepted to play a role where the characters doesn't develop at all. The last scene with Dmitry was so bad for Peyami and Çagatay as an actor because if written better he could have given us a strong and memorable scene of his acting skills. The whole thing was concentrated in Dmitry as if Peyami wasn't the main character. Also Peyami couldn't express his love for Esvet to Dmitry because he didn't want to make his best friend, brother feel bad, he also helped him on covering him murdering his father but when Dmitry sacrifices himself, Peyami continues peacefully his life with Esvet without having any regret or suffering for his friend he used to say he loved that much.
Except the scene of them 3 in the end of season 1 and that on the 3rd season, this show lacks on giving us exicting or memorable scenes. Maybe this comes from the weak character of Peyami or because they didn't have enough imagination to write better scenes, I don't really know.
Two main topics: Esvet's real identity and Peyami's mother other family were revelead so quickly in the end, it gave the idea they were in a rush to end the season.
In the end, I can say the show could have been way better treated in its entirety. There should have been more scenes between Esvet and Peyami, which would have developed their relationship, in all 3 seasons we didn't see their relationship develop, especially in second season they barely had any scene together and then from nowhere in season 3 Peyami expresses his devastion for mot forgetting Esvet. Also instead of dealing with Esvet and Dimitry's move to USA they could have focused the show more on Esvet revealing her real origins, or Peyami and Dmitry's rivalry for Esvet to increase the tension. The end, showing Dmitry alive, was meh. I mean what can another season add to the general show? When we didn't have a decent climax in three season, do they think we'll get it after this poor scripted season? They tried to give us Ask-i Memnu vibes but failed pathetically. This show was written as a regular turkish show, transmitted in tv with 20 - 30 episodes, 2-2:30 hours each. I think if they had continued like that the show would have been developed way better than in Netflix.
Wednesday (2022)
Very very good!
I didn't except this series to be that good. Usually I watch action, fantasy, thriller tv series/movies but don't get that much impressed because usually their plots fail in delivering enthusiasm, curiosity, intrigue. While in Wednesday I was stuck on the show since the first episode. One of the few series/movies in which I didn't watch the time ribbon at all (to see how much is left till the end of it). The plot was very good, there were many plot twists which uplifted it even more. The characters were written so precisely starting with Wednesday, Enid, Tyler, The Sheriff and not only. Even though I kind of suspected that the monster a.k.a. The Hyde was Tyler since the second episode, till the end I had my doubts because the attention was moving quickly from one character to another so everyone could be the Hyde. Also I liked the shooting, I mean they shot the whole series in Romanian villages, with all that gothic style it couldn't have been better. I really regret not watching when it got released but waiting not impatiently for the second season. Ah not to mention: it was one of the few cases when I don't really hate the main character for putting herself and other in danger when taking irresponsible and rushed decisions.
Ask Taktikleri 2 (2023)
Enjoyable
For an action movie lover as me if I have to summarize it simply : way more enjoyable than the first movie. I liked it even though it doesn't have a strong/unique plot to convey. It is very colorful, summerish, shiny, party, exactly what we need in the hot weather of summer. I liked the shooting so much, the colors used by the directors, the places chosen, Asli's outfits. It was short but funny to watch.
The plane part of a bit cheesy and cheap but I laughed a lot at Asli's character scenes. I didn't like Demet at all in her rom-coms and neither did I like her in Love Tactics 1. But she had improved a lot in this one and apparently guess what: she made me laugh! I rated the first movie with a 4 because I really hated it overall but in the second one they really improved so much and their work and effort got rewarded. Love Tactics 2 is the most watched rom-com on the platform just three days after its premiere! I was surprised when I learned that and tbh I'm happy for them.
Bienvenidos a Edén (2022)
Interesting but...
Ok so I watched the first season, haven't finished the second yet but I got the main idea.
My disappointment started with the elimination of Aldo. He was such a good character but they decided to sacrifice him when they could sacrifice Charly for example, which I wasn't very fan of.
Also Zoe started a romance with Nico (a very antipathetic character) and then we discovered she was a bi, when she started a romance with Bel. I mean there was no evidence of Zoa being a bisexual and from nowhere, she starts a relationship with Bel, when their relationship didn't even have a story development. Till episode 6 there wasn't any meaningful scene of them together.
Zoa the main character in the beginning looks like so naive when she easily trusts anybody. From Astrid till Bel, when everyone there has their own's interests.
Also, gosh, Astrid and her company controls everything in the island, how didn't they insert micro-devices to listen to what people say inside their modules. Like they monitor them 24/7h with drones and cameras but can't install devices to listen to them so they can learn about the plans off Rebellion? And to those who want to eliminate Astrid. This is so pathetic.
Either way I gave to 'Welcome to Eden' a 6, because overall I enjoyed it, it had action, suspense, development of events and unexpected of them.
Ask Taktikleri (2022)
It is so so but so BAD!!!
Really, never had I watched such a bad romantic comedy movie. I don't know if it is bcz the actors just suck or bcz the story is so bad. Beside the fact that Demet Ozdemir and Sukru Ozyildiz just aren't made for comedy movies, they act one cringer than the other, the movie was so short, just 98 minutes. Not saying that being very long is good but at least it should have been careful with the story development. In reality there was no story at all. We got it that they both would fall in love with each other but no that soon, I mean it looked like this was a whole joke. Not to mentioned the moment with the piano. It was supposed to be an emotional scene when their souls would unite and they would express their feelings but instead what do we get? Not only a single emotion (Kerem was like can't we just skip this and hook up!?) transmitted but also they went immediately on a love scene that was just out of context, like it should have been so soft and pure but we got a love scene typical of netflix shows.... really this movie is just so fu*king BAD!!!
Tozluyaka (2022)
It isn't worthy starting it at all!
Seriously don't start it! In the beginning it is soo good and gets you addicted then after 9th episode the story gets downwards! Every single scene/ event + relationship between characters gets so RIDICULOUS that can't be described.
The screenwriter kicks out one of the MAIN characters by making it the supposed killer, and then creates a new, 0 interesting/ charismatic main female character out of nowhere who gets a great attention ep by ep, that doesn't make you want to continue the series. Rn it is on the 17th ep and it's rating is dropping like crazy, not forgetting it was the summer's best and most watched dizi!!! Soon the finale TozluYaka 😏
Kusursuz Kiraci (2022)
The biggest crime in Dizi History!!!
Seriously the only series worthy to be a family friendly, mysterious, different and unique plot and yet the least watched in its 2-3 last episodes of the series who usually get cancelled by fox / any other channel. It's ridiculous the fact that this dizi was an ideal dizi and got 6 ep at all, it's decreasing started when Ben Bu Cihana Sigmazam started but we all are seeing how it is dropping week by week and it's rating will drop even more because it is the typical cliche turkish series. Seriously cannot give a decent review of it because they destroyed the story by making suddenly the final at the 6th 😒
Bir Peri Masali (2022)
It is good but not for turkish audience...
I've seen the 4 episodes of this series and I must say that I like it. But there are some aspects in which this dizi is struggling to reach typical turkish TV audience.
- Actors are good, chemistry between Alina and Taro is on top, cool directing BUT if you want to succeed in turkish TV audience, the story must be complex/ complicated + it should be developed in 2/3 parallel storylines.
- What I'm intending to say is that this dizi's plot is very simple: poor girl who enters high society with a false identity, falls in love with the handsome, successful, rich boy which doesn't love his girlfriend and is in a direct war with his half sister and stepmother for the head post of the company etc.
- Personally I expected this dizi to be a bomb and especially Alina's character which was the whole contrary. When the series original name "Zengin Kiz" and the plot came out, everyone thought Zeynep would be a unscrupulous character, which would do everything to get rich, stepping into everyone who tried to enter her way to the high society and wealthy life, with an scary ego and ambition to get higher and higher. And what does we get instead: a girl who is sensible, with conscience, who falls in love and this is making her deviate from her main objective. In short words: Zeynep isn't the smart and intelligent girl we all thought/imagined! I mean she's smart but not that much bcz she has made many mistakes and silly mistakes I would say, which don't make this series a bomb. Also 'Bir Peri Masali' title doesn't buy too much 😏.
- When they learn Zeynep is not who they think she is, the story ends. It should be a very strong event's development and sometimes what I like to say "non usual"/traditional dizi scenes in order to attract turkish audience which is very tired by this kind of series. And I don't think the scriptwriters are capable of doing a this kind of plot twist. Episode 4 was 2 hours long and tbh was boring. Like if you don't know what to put in a specific episode just make it less than 2 hours. Many dizi have had episodes less than 2 hours!!!
- Also leaving the scenario aside, the day chosen for this tv series was so wrong!!! Many series of this type have been transmitted on Wednesdays and they all did so bad! Adding the fact that they changed the day of premiere twice and this also affected its success.
HOWEVER I still like it for it's directing, colors, actors, sweet vibe it transmits etc. It isn't neither toxic, nor does it have those scary, overly dramatic crying and shouting scenes. The best for 'Bir Peri Masali' would have been the digital series format but let's hope it doesn't get cancelled early.
Dünyayla Benim Aramda (2022)
Just don't begin it at all...
I don't know how did I gave this series a 5 in its first episode. Maybe it was because of the music choices, chemistry between Demet & Bugra, or the directing which is better than most typical turkish series we're used to watch. But the story is so vague, so nonsense and tbh it gets you irritated.
I was waiting so much of Sinem's character, maybe someone who would revenge Ilkin not only by getting Tolga but also by showing that she can be seen by others too, she would get maybe into higher positions, but I understood this wouldn't work since she gave those stupid ideas that no one liked just Ilkin accepted because of their secret pact. She such a cringy character that everytime she gets in a hard situation, only thing she does is cry like a baby. Now Sinem is such useless in this story that after Tolga learns she's not Berlin, I don't know what will be her place in this how story.
Also not to talk about Ilkin. Gosh what did she want to prove to herself when all the time she was the one creating the conditions for Tolga to be fully interested in Berlin, being aware he was in a delicate psychological state. She started this game and she was the one to give the end she wanted but she lost the wheel, destroying herself and her relationship. The only good thing now is Kenan. Hope they don't destroy his character.
Ask Mantik Intikam (2021)
Gave an 8 only for the first 10 episodes!
The first 10 episodes were fantastic and definitely made it the best romantic comedy of 2021. Even though the series had 42 episodes and continued during winter season with a pleasant rating, still I can't forget episode 11&12 with Ozan marrying Çagla even after knowing the truth about his and Esra's lost baby.
The screenwriters completely destroyed Ozan's character episode by episode and were focused only on showing the strong values of Esra, thus making Ozan look as an as*hole. For me still it is better than half of nowadays romantic comedies which don't have originality, just copy paste of each other with different actors. This one had a background, had a story and they didn't use to create a dizi which would stay in people's memories for long.
