Night Swim (2024)
4/10
If it was longer it would've been better
6 January 2024
Night Swim was a movie I had no interest in until I decided to go see it one random night. I went in pretty much blind only seeing a short snippet and well... it was fine.

The storyline overall needed to dive (pun intended) deeper into the relationships of our main characters. This would have supported some of the meaningful moments towards the third act.

The action is more near the end but is very brief. They had a few good scares, but overall I felt like we needed more.

The cinematography in some of the scenes were very well done. There are many well choreographed underwater scenes. I was pleasantly surprised with the camera work done in this movie.

I think Night Swim needed a bare 2 hour runtime to actually establish a good relationship with all of our characters and to get deeper into the lore of the pool. It felt way too rushed and especially how late it was introduced. Night Swim felt bland, but it had some good scares and decent makeup, and a few great cinematography moments. D+

The Marvels (2023)
6/10
Unexpectedly fine
12 November 2023
Sure, it doesn't beat the first Captain Marvel (which Kevin Feige did confirm this is a direct sequel to the first one), it definitely doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

You don't really need to watch anything else besides the first Captain Marvel to understand everything that's going on. You also could watch Ms. Marvel for a better understanding, but if you have an idea for what the character is, you would probably understand just about everything.

Action in this movie happens more often than you'd expect. Right as the movie begins, it jumps straight into the action, which I enjoy. The action sequences are pretty intense, and fun to watch.

The cast in this is pretty good. It's mainly Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson who put the show on.

Humor in this movie is surprisingly balanced extremely well. Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) is the one who pulls off most of the humor in this.

There's a solid amount of emotion in this movie. It doesn't really happen until the third act, and it depends whether or not if it hits you or not. It's not touchy feely but more of a disappointing type of emotion.

Overall, The Marvels conveys a solid, fun movie to enjoy. If you enjoyed it as much as me, you may rewatch it in a year or two, but it's not one to keep you on your toes when it gets released on Disney Plus.

As a long time FNAF fan, this spoiled us
28 October 2023
Now, I've been a FNAF fan for about 5 years, and been waiting for this movie for 5 years. This was a movie that was serving something that was for long time FNAF fans, and will introduce people into the franchise.

I can see why critics won't like it. There's a bunch of lore that needed to be answered. I felt like the movie handled enough lore to somewhat understand it, (if you haven't learned the lore) and once the second movie releases, they will look back on the first one and enjoy it more, hoping that the second movie explains a little more.

From my perspective of a long time fan, this spoiled us. The fan service is thrown at there, especially near the 3rd act. This gave us more than what I could have expected from the movie.

The cast is mainly some underground folks, but you may recognize them. Let me say that some of the acting was poor. Josh Hutcherson and his little sister Abby probably brought the best performances of the film. It was weak at times, but I could deal with it.

This is definitely more of a thriller than a horror. The story comes first, but horror is also visible, but not really put on the spotlight till the end (extra points if you've seen the movie and get that reference)

Overall, if you're a fan of the FNAF franchise, go see this. (or watch it on peacock) It will build your FNAF love even more, and if you're not a fan, you can still enjoy this movie for its story and kills. It is fun from the perspective of a critic, but from a fan, Five Nights at Freddy's is a hit.

A solid whodunnit movie
16 September 2023
A Haunting in Venice is a classic 40s whodunnit pulled off with great cinematography, writing and of course a murder mystery. Performed in a way with suspense, horror, thriller, heart and more.

Over the course of 1 hour 40 minutes what feels like 3 hours (in a good way) stretches out different events intertwining into the same storyline. Nothing goes the way you'd expect, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Action in this film is mainly in the beginning and doesn't show up later, the first half is more frightening content, and the other half is the nitty gritty murder mystery.

The cast is spectacular. Tina Fey KILLS it. Everyone in this film does a spectacular job, especially the little boy.

Emotion is really confusing in this movie. It's present, but more of an overlooked emotion. You can see characters change throughout the movie. You definitely don't start to notice it until the third act.

Overall, this is a great movie to watch for a good murder mystery feel!

Barbie (I) (2023)

Worth the wait
6 August 2023
If Barbie could've done anything with this movie, this is the best it could've done. Pulled off with comedy, heart, and emotion, Barbie delivers.

Cast is great. No questions asked. I loved some of the smaller cameos in this film, definitely made the movie more appealing.

Humor is back and forth in this movie, and all the jokes will keep you chuckling. I had some people laughing louder than the movie itself to some of these jokes. Props to you, Gerwig.

Emotion is heavily involved in the third act of the film, and definitely changes tone. The ending takes sort of a twist, but is a good way to end the film.

Overall, the film is great. Highly recommend seeing. Some of the jokes are more adult, so maybe think twice before taking your kid to see this. If you don't have kids, go see this. It'll be worth your money.

A brilliant time!
4 August 2023
Mutant Mayhem handles almost all genres in the finest way possible, keeps it PG, and it's fantastic. This is one of the finest Gen Z movies I've seen. Kids will enjoy jokes, and adults will enjoy jokes too, the movie is for anyone.

Another thing that makes this movie stand out is the cast. Kids and adults will both recognize this cast, and all their performances are great.

Humor CARRIES this film. I loved all jokes in this film, it kept me chuckling throughout its runtime. Some jokes are heavily directed for kids, there's one vomit joke that is used through the movie that may have some viewers grossed out, but for the most part it's pretty funny.

This movie is also very emotional at times! The relationships between Splinter and the turtles can get sometimes somber, but very emotional towards the third act.

Overall, take your kids to see this. Even if you don't have kids, go see this with some friends or by yourself. It's a really hilarious, fun, and entertaining film.

An absolute blast!
31 March 2023
Dungeons & Dragons is an absolute blast! I highly recommend seeing this if you haven't already. The storyline is fantastic, and the action is amazing. The cast is great, and some of the turns that you didn't expect makes the movie better. The humor in this is balanced on a perfect level between serious and humorous. Speaking of humor, every joke in this movie hits hard! This can definitely get a laugh out of ya. Some of the references in this movie definitely remind me of goofs from the actual Dungeons & Dragons game. They definitely nod into the lore throughout this. Overall, this is a good time if you wanna see some action and comedy!

A smooth way to end Marvel in 2022
30 November 2022
I like how marvel is now doing basically short films, especially with this and Werewolf by Night. I think this will definitely hype up GoTG vol 3 way more than it was before. I like how this is pitch guardians, with that sweet taste of fun dumb action that James Gunn can pull off beautifully, and that sweet peak of comedy that balanced perfectly. I also like how Mantis and Drax were pretty much the main characters in this, yet I'm also sad we didn't see more of Rocket and Groot. But overall, I enjoyed their length of screen time over the course of the film. But As a first holiday special for Marvel, this is a win.
