Rang-e khoda (1999)
This is a must-see. Very touching.
This was a very touching film. Its Story line was very simple, but the movie had a lot to offer. It's the story of a father who resents his blind son. The son, Mohammed, is very smart and loving. He saves a baby bird and he listens to nature. He tries to read the things he touches as if it were brail. When he returns home from a school for the blind, all the children in his village are excited to see him. Everyone one loves him. However his father, who doesn't even take care of him, sees him as a burden. He is blind to all of his son's talents. The acting in this movie is great. The film also shows a positive side of Iran that we never hear about. I would recommend this film to anyone.
Smultronstället (1957)
a good film
Igmar Bergman's Wild Strawberries was a very touching film. It exposed Dr. Isak Borg's past through a trip down memory lane, literally. He goes on a road trip to receive an honorary reward and on his way he visits his old home and his old mother. He has dreams and flashbacks that give us a peek into his very lonely life. Only in his old age on the day of his glorification does he realize what a lonely life he's had. It's very sad to see this, especially since he tries to change his ways in the end. I liked this film and would recommend it to anyone.
Mädchen in Uniform (1931)
great film
Mädchen in Uniform This was a very bold film. It presents the controversies of lesbianism, teacher-student relationships, and antifascism in Germany in the 30's. The acting is of great quality. You don't need to know German to understand what's going on, even with out the subtitles. I find it interesting that feminine sexual powers are used throughout the film. The beloved teacher, Fräulein von Bernburg, uses her sexual powers to win the affection of the children, keeping them in check. During rehearsals for a play, one of the girls is told to use her feminine powers (to be more seductive) to play her part. Sex appeal is also mentioned in describing a movie star. The antifascism isn't blatant in the film, but in the opening scene, we see soldiers marching and then the schoolgirls marching, hinting at the hidden meaning. This film has a place in history and is worth seeing.
North by Northwest (1959)
It's a Hitchcock film!
What can you say about a Hitchcock film?? It has great action scenes, great sets, and great acting. Watching it now, it seems like a cheesy suspense film, and a little unrealistic. However it's still a good movie. It was probably the best action film of its time. It's definately worth watching today.
Fatal Attraction (1987)
The ending was a good choice
Contains Spoiler In general, I thought Fatal Attraction was a good movie. It dealt with the consequences of adultery, which is something not usually addressed in a movie. It's tension builder, so I'm glad that the original ending wasn't used. Throughout the movie, you sympathize with the characters, though I couldn't really choose sides. Dan was wrong for cheating on his wife so he did have to face up to the consequences, but Alex took things too far. She, at first, made the affair seem like an adult thing to do, but then she reverts to the adolescent behaviors of jealousy and vengeance. She torments Dan's family so in the end it's nice to see Dan's wife get revenge on her. The original ending is morbid. It might work better in a book, but cinematically, there is way too much suspense built up to just let the crazy woman kill herself.
Citizen Kane (1941)
Great work of art.
I wouldn't call Citizen Kane the best movie ever made, but I guess it was innovative for it's time. The camera work was great, but the acting gave me the feeling that I was watching a cartoon. And I thought the actual story was very boring, but it was a well told story. Overall, I think Orsen Well's Citizen Kane was a great work of art, but it was a bad story.
