Incredible story - Not to be missed!
15 November 2011
This is an incredible story of how an egomaniac scumbag trampled all over people who had no way to fight back.

What's worse, he was actively aided and abetted by the entire Scottish government, from the local politicians and local police all the way to the highest levels who knew full well that Trump was cheating and stealing over and over.

Both he and the Scottish Government officials are sickening.

NO lawyer stepped forward,NO politician had any attack of conscience, NO ONE of any influence at all stepped forward to help.

Everyone was bought and paid for. You should not miss this movie.

No Strings Attached (I) (2011)
An amusing comedy with a glaring fault
18 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A generally amusing movie that is badly marred by an unnecessary excess of really crude vulgarities. I'm no prude, loved Animal House, and am a fan of action movies loaded with well-done sex and violence. That being said, however, I found myself wincing when a character early in the show looks at the girl sitting next to him and says "can I finger you"? It is way more than just being "uncool". That and several other glaringly crude lines showed the audience just how the use of words turns a "player" into a complete ass. There was a lot of murmuring from the audience, which is not good.

Otherwise, the movie could have stood quite well on its own. Light romantic comedy is great when well done, and well done in this genre almost always means subtle and classy. When you lose your "classy" you come across as just another jerk. Even Animal House would have avoided some of these lines.

Natalie Portman is OK in this role, but not great. She might be getting a little too old to play the young chick role. Ashton does remarkably well, and we will enjoy seeing him in many more roles if he avoids the "all looks and no acting ability" horde of current young actors. I hope he gets good guidance during his formative acting years.

Had it all been just a tick more classy, yet still very sexy, this movie could have had much greater audience appeal.

A truly awful film that will be gone in a green flash
13 January 2011
I seldom really, really, dislike a film. I am tolerant to the max if I find an element or two that is fetching, exciting, or even mildly amusing. I love gadgets, well done action, and lots of comedy.

This film is simply painful to watch. It is amateurish. Its writing is execrable. We don't ask much... A plot can be formulaic, but not openly clumsy. Rogen & friend missed by a mile. Rogen can't even carry off his own character competently despite the fact that the character has no redeeming qualities.

Jay Chou is completely wooden, totally failing to make his character alive, let alone interesting. Christoph Waltz gets credit for his valiant attempt at an American accent, but lapses constantly. He'd do better with an indeterminate euro accent if he didn't want to get labeled for his German one. Diaz is fetching, but completely wasted. She tried, but couldn't get past the material.

This film proves that simply destroying everything in sight isn't enough. Even the gadgets are so poorly showcased they are made uninteresting.

All in all, I predict this film will ultimately take its place among the worst of all time, appealing only to the most trite minds on earth.

My Favorite Martian: My Favorite Martin (1963)
Season 1, Episode 1
Trivia or comment?...
31 August 2007
I found it interesting that the credits for the pilot episode (and others) show the Copyright date in Roman Numerals as "MCMXLIII", which is the number 1943 in our more familiar "Arabic" (normal) numbers. Maybe this was on purpose, but I doubt it.

The correct Roman Numerals for the actual Copyright date of 1963 are MCMLXIII. Maybe the Titles artist was dyslexic, or more likely, careless (or just poorly educated).

In any case, this is a small piece of trivia for those who find joy in catching mistakes.

Othewise, the show holds up remarkably well for an average-price sitcom of the era.
