Carol (2015)
choices, regrets, and a longing for love
I may be a 21 year old man, but i see myself in Carol. She's at a hard position in her life which is a place I'm very scared to be in. To choose between satisfying and loving my family, or to love and feel loved by my lover, just the thought of having to make this choice in the future frightens me.
Carol walks around with a certain feeling always following her as if it's her own shadow; this feeling of sadness, regret, the desire to love and to be loved, it weighs very heavy on her heart that you can sense it every time she's on screen. It's on her face, in her tone of voice, in her body language, and in the photographs taken of her by Therese. And Cate Blanchett is such a perfect character to portray that.
I will have to make a choice in the future, much like Carol, and i will have to live with all the sadness and regrets it brings with it. Much like Carol. It's such a beautiful feeling to be able to relate to a character in a film to this extent.

this may have changed my life
It's been a while since I saw this played at a short film festival where I live, I think about it often. This changed my mind about short films; within the span of 20-or-so minutes it covers a lot of emotions and portrays them better than most hit films I've seen, and I am sure of this because I was able to connect with it which is something that has rarely happened with me and films, easily bringing it up to one of my top favorites.
This film made me reflect it's feelings back on myself, to make me see myself in it's main character and watch him as he goes, not with anticipation, but with care and concern; with genuine feelings that have stuck with me even after a while of watching it. I can only think of one other film that had me feeling this way.
Simon has got a gift with delivering emotions through film, I'm sure he has got a very bright future ahead of him. It's something that resonates in his other films as well, but this is his best work to start with. I totally recommend it.
