Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022)
wow, just wow
I never played the original game fully apart from having a go on a friends copy but i haven't watched a show in a long time that i've really enjoyed, I binged it in one day which i feel was a bit silly but hey, what can you do now. The journey we go on with our main character David is thrilling, shocking and full of twists and turns and i loved every single second of it. The supporting characters and antagonists are all extremely interesting with many having great character development and depth as the show goes on. Finish that with an ending that left my jaw-dropped open and you got a pretty awesome anime.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
A couple flaws but a way better end to a storyline than the 2018 trilogy
Personally this is one of my favourite films in the halloween franchise, yeah there are flaw like the occasion continuity error and the awful CGI mask Michael wears in a short scene but i consider this 10X better than ends. The Laurie in David Gordon Green's trilogy seems she hasn't moved on in the slightest living out on a compound in the middle of nowhere whilst in H20 she has established a good and respectful life. Tensity, suspense and music is used well whilst ends relies mainly on gore, ridiculous deaths and making Michael into some dweeb. I also believe that Michael's death was way more satisfying to see than in ends.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Not amazing but I found it fun
I like the resident evil series especially 2 so I was pretty excited to give this one a watch. While not the most amazing movie, I found myself really enjoying this movie. Some of the casting choices weren't the greatest nor were some story changes especially jill and the orphanage sub-plot but I liked the acting from actors for Chris and Claire and the character change for chief irons. I watched all the Paul w.s Anderson movies a while back and felt they were too much of an action movie series that didn't capture resident evil correctly whilst this movie captures about half of the classic RE atmosphere whilst also combining action. So yeah, I liked it.
Possessor (2020)
Such a great premise but film decided to focus on gore and artsy nonsense
People kept telling me that this was the best movie of 2020 (which i still find hard to believe) so i picked up the blu-ray while it was on sale at HMV and gave it a watch, oh boy. It's a shame that this movie had so many missed opportunities, like come on. A world where assassins can invade your mind and blame the murder on you?! That's an awesome idea but NO, instead of a cool morality-driven plot and good character development we get over-the-top gore that adds nothing to the story, boring/pretentious dialogue and wooden characters who we know nothing about and have no interest to. I hate to be this guy but come on Brandon, your dad is David Mother-f##king Cronenberg, Director of classics such as The Fly, Eastern Promises and Videodrome. People are gonna say "Cronenberg's films are all about gore and body horror!" but with his movies, those qualities actually relate to the story of the film. You could do this whole possession premise with little to no violence. Wrap all those complaints up with a nonsensical ending and there you have Possessor. I know this is his first official film so there can be mistakes to learn from but said mistakes could've been easily avoided. I really hope Infinity Pool will be good.
Clerks (1994)
A pretty funny, relatable life of a shop clerk
Going into this movie, I didn't know anything about it. I enjoyed the film from start to finish, it was funny, enjoyable and had some great acting. Kevin smith's directorial debut is not to be missed in this movie, I love Kevin smiths other films such as jay and silent bob strike back and chasing Amy so it was cool to see where it all started. The movie makes a somewhat boring subject into an interesting, fun watch that I would recommend to many. The choice of black and white really helps make this film stand out among other comedy's of its time as it puts the comedy at the centre of the movie. Great film 8/10.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
Even if you take out the main gimmick of gore, the story is bland and most of the acting is awkward
I was told by a friend that this movie was a pretty decent watch. I decided that I would try it out since I thought the first movie was decent and with all the hype and other commotion around this movie I was hoping it would be somewhat enjoyable, I was wrong. I decided (more like forced) to watch the film on a friends £20 blu-ray and was greeted by a main menu pretty much just made on adobe acrobat. The film starts off where the first one ends, with a guy being killed brutally and then another guy literally 5 minutes later. We are then introduced to our protagonist sienna, she's a good enough character who likes to dream of clown cafes and she has a brother who isn't really that important. Some more people die, creepy clown ahh, the end. This movies level of gore wasn't as extreme as people are saying, I'm sort of desensitised to fake blood in movies but the only reason the level was this high was 1. Shock and 2. Gimmick. The gimmick couldn't save it from the meh story and acting. There is 2 reasons why I gave this movie a 4/10 instead of a 1/10. 1. The acting from David Howard Thornton was pretty good, he had a pretty good ability to go from a goofy clown to a sadistic monster in minutes. 2. The acting from the Lauren levara was great as well, her character was likeable and fun to root for. Well that's my review for terrifier 2, by god don't let them make 3.
Resident Evil 4 (2023)
My favourite game of all time
This game is great. I played the Leon campaign on RE2 and liked his character so i thought i would give RE4 a try and boy oh boy am i happy with my purchase.
Fun yet challenging levels - check.
Great characters that have emotional depth - check.
Awesome gameplay and gun combat - check.
Sick enemies and cool-looking monsters - check.
Entertaining story - check
Banging soundtrack and end credits - check
There's some much more I can list on why this game was so good. Capcom really outdid themselves with this one as I enjoyed this much more than the gameplay and story of 2. I would recommend this game to any gamer.
Ill Manors (2012)
dark, gritty and realistic
This movie was a very good movie, I enjoyed ben drew in other movies so I thought I would take a look at his directorial debut. It was a pretty hard watch but i'm happy I stuck with it.
The performances of pre-rise actors like Ed Skrein and Riz Ahmed are great and believable enough to submerse you into the world of the film. Whilst the story is pretty disturbing in most scenes, I believe that it is an important watch that many people really should view.
In my conclusion, this film is a great, low-budget crime-drama thriller that i would recommend anybody to check out if they are interested.
8/10.
Gone Girl (2014)
way too stretched out movie finished with an awful ending
I was really excited to watch this one.
A friend told me this film was a well written tense thriller as i'm a sucker for a good David Fincher movie, I love fight club, SE7EN and Benjamin Button as i've grown up with those movie. The film started off pretty well if i'm honest, we are introduced to Ben Affleck's character and the main plot of the movie starts although 30-45 mins in it starts to get boring and drag on, I was nearly asleep by the time the credits rolled by. The second reason why I dislike this movie is that Rosamund Pikes character Amy never gets karma for her actions, we just watch this woman ruin life after life which just made it a pretty painful watch and by the end she's gotten away with it all.
Acting was pretty good but just a poorly written story with an awful ending
peace out.
Scream (1996)
The perfect scary movie,
Scream is in my top 3 favourite movies of all time, it is a great mix of dark comedy and horror finished off with a good twist.
The story is a well-crafted Kevin Williamson slow-burner with great, interesting characters that add to the tension when they are being hunted down by the killer, the kills in the movie are more stylised and intricate when compared to similar movies from the slasher genre such as halloween and a nightmare on elm street.
The cast is full of great actors that really give their best performance. The soundtrack is also kick-ass and gives a more 90's feeling to the movie.
The best horror film of all time 9/10.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Dumb film with Bad effects and a bland story
I personally really enjoyed avatar (2009), whilst the story wasn't the most original, it made up for it with a good cast and great VFX. This movie is a stain on that movie and James Cameron's career as a whole.
The action scenes are way too fast, like the audience is supposed to have the attention span of a haddock. Throughout the movie the special effects were laughably low-quality, it felt like I was watching a cutscene for a cheap xbox 360 game.
The story was moderately original this time but the characters were so unlikeable including Jake sully who just came off as unbearable jerk. I gave the film 2 stars as the only character who wasn't cocky, arrogant or annoying was Sigourney weavers kiri, she had a pretty decent subplot and was one of the only characters I liked.
My opinion. Just save your cash and rent the first one on amazon.
Saw (2004)
great mystery thriller
One of my favourite horror movies, a great mystery thriller
this movie is very similar to films like SE7EN and shutter island with the main theme of wondering who jigsaw actually is. The acting is great from stars like Tobin Bell and Cary Elwes. I personally hold this film up with other detective thrillers that i have seen. The story is very good and the graphic content inside of the movie is pretty mild making it an easy watch for anyone. The traps in the first film are pretty simple for the small budget of the film. This film is a very good commentary on society and completes its gritty, intense atmosphere well.
Chatroom (2010)
nakata's worst, go watch dark water instead
This film sucks, sucks hard. I have never wished for a film to end so quickly but alas, it felt like 10 hours of pain. Aaron Taylor-Johnson gives the worse performances of all time, sadly different to his good acting from Godzilla and Tenet. This film will make you so bored that it surpasses all bored world records. I hated watching this film, ironically i had to watch it as a dare. I've seen Poundland stores have piles upon piles of DVD copies of this film in the electronics section and i get why, because its a flaming tire pile of general blazing garbage being set alight. The story is also very bad, doo-doo feces.
Mad Dogs (2002)
bonkers, wacky movie, director was probably on drugs, nothing to do with dogs
This is some messed up film, made zero sense and i felt quite ill by the end of it. It's seriously saying something that this was the directors only film. I would show this movie to friends but i don't have any so i cannot. Cheers to Netflix for this, i cannot get my 1 hour 31 minutes back. The cover is of a man running but no man is running in that position in the film and the American people in the film were goofy. It had nothing to do with dogs and the dogs barely make an appearance in a movie called mad dogs. There was some dogs but not enough dogs to suffice to the name of the movie. Watch at your own risk.
Rise of the Footsoldier (2007)
good crime-drama that doesn't take itself too seriously
I found a blu-ray of this film in a local charity shop during a bargain hunt, the film looked decent on the surface so i decided to pick up a copy. I definitely wasn't disappointed.
The story was enjoyable and interesting, the acting was pretty good and filmography was moderate.
This film is an enjoyable late-night watch that doesn't take itself too serious or too silly, good film to watch with pals and a couple of drinks.
I would recommend purchasing the blu-ray steelbook due to the extended runtime with the previously deleted extra scenes edited into the film. This film will be a personal favourite in my collection for the future
8/10.
