Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)
The most overrated crap of the year!!!!
I don't know where any positive reviews for this movie are coming from as its got to be one of the lamest horror releases of the year. Its a failed comedy that didn't make me laugh once and enough with the horror clichés as there so played out it makes the filmmakers seem like shallow hacks.
Besides the comedy not working, there is nothing scary about this and it doesn't have one moment that could pass for tension. Does the company releasing this think that just because they reference past slasher films, that this will be as well received? Not likely.
And I don't know whos idea it was to cast such a little unthreatening guy as the killer. He tries to come off comedic but fails miserably at it. Maybe its just the script as there were so many holes in the plot that I guess the filmmakers thought putting in Robert Englund may save its credibility.
In short, if you like horror films I suggest you stay clear of this as this is the biggest example of deception in marketing that I've seen this year and the movie is just too predictable.
Chicago Massacre: Richard Speck (2007)
One of the best serial killer films of the year - if not the best!!!
I just rented this and this has to be one of the best serial killer films of the year if not the best. This makes Fincher's Zodiac look like a tame TV movie compared to this Horrific true crime story. CSI fans will love it as will the hardcore Horror SAW fans. I just wish the Studios would start coming out with more films like this over the wave of remakes and sequels that they've been releasing lately. Utter garbage and who needs to see a remake of Halloween 1, let alone by Rob Zombie.
This could easily be the best Serial Killer film of the year!!! From a historical perspective to the unflinching brutal horror that was depicted, this film covers all the angles. Corin Nemec easily delivers what could be the performance of his career with a stark edge that is reminiscent of Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates in Psycho.
