The Railway Men: The Untold Story of Bhopal 1984 (2023)
Great for lovers of drama or disaster type series
I am half way through this series, and am thoroughly enjoying it. The actors are all great and well cast, the story is compelling and it has been filmed well. Background music sets the right tone, and as you can imagine, the story builds in tension and is, deeply sad. I cannot imagine the horror of this type of experience. I really wnjoy series and films with well crafted characters, and with each unique character in this series you quickly get a sense of their temperament and personalities, which allows us to empathise fully with the characters, even if for some we would rather not. Netflix doesn't always get it right, but this is a series they invested in well, and it shows. A solid 9/10.
Harry & Meghan (2022)
Poor examples that don't match their narrative
Netflix paying Harry and his wife to do more whingeing is tiresome. I am uber annoyed that with their constant finger pointing at the Royal Family and the UK press, so many of the examples of media hounding were actually from the US media. So who is really at fault? Is it the American press? (The Royals cannot control this) The British press? Social media? (The Royals cannot control this) Too much blame is being pointed at the Royal Family that they have limited control over, which is grossly unfair and hurtful.
I don't respect their opinion, their advocacy for mental health is simply a way to spend a few years capitalising financially from their constant spewed drivel, and I really don't see them adding any value to anyone other than themselves.
Meghans issue with racism, seems to me to be an excuse. What she has utterly failed to understand is that the Royal Family is known for stoicism, and she completely lacks any. What did she manage, a year or three before bolting with Harry to the US?
In contrast, Kate was with William for years before they even married, and went through the exact same thing, constantly followed by the press, zero privacy, constant intrusion, and judgement at every turn. Did she turn tail and make documentaries about her anguish? No. She got on with loving William and has learned to live with it.
Unlike Meghan, Kate weathered it and has completely shone in her role. None of it came easy to her. There was extensive negative media coverage about William wanting to marry a "commoner", as well as the photographs of her walking the catwalk in St Andrews, and more, yet she persevered and has, with William at her side, breathed a breath of fresh air into the monarchy. I honestly wish none of the royals, or spouses of royals had to endure any of the press drama, but Harry and Meghan implying unfair treatment by them, I think is unfair finger pointing at an institution that the British public, and many non-Brits, admire and love. No one said being Royal is easy, it I am sure is an exhausting and limiting life. I respect the Royal Family, and the outpouring of love for Queen Elizabeth confirms that most Brits feel the same.
Harry and Meghan could have taken the opportunity to bring the Royal Family more into the 21st century (especially with Meghan being a biracial feminist and activist) but instead she and Harry turned tails and ran.
I don't have anything against Harry and Meghan as individuals, but I hope to God they feel a modicum of shame for constantly finger pointing instead of following the established status quo and getting on with the job of being modern Royals. You moved to the US, then get out of the family for good. Renounce your titles, and privilege, and frankly shut up about the Royals...
Buying Beverly Hills (2022)
Popcorn Fluff TV Real Estate Show
I think the first reviewer has been unnecessarily harsh. This is not Emmy Winning material, but it nails perfectly what provides the appeal of every high end real estate reality show. Homes we cannot afford. Jobs we do not have. Clothes we cannot fit into or afford. Cars we do not drive. Lives we admire. It is a window into a sometimes superficial world, but damn it's so much fun. Get caught up in the storyline, relationships, and jaw droppingly stunning Beverly Hills real estate. Fabulous.
Tracking the professional and personal interplay between the family and work colleagues is great fun, and I am looking forward to future seasons.
