Big Spender (2012 TV Movie)
9/10
A romantic-comedy above average
26 September 2012
"Unter Umständen verliebt" is a movie which is really worth watching. This is mainly caused by the two main characters - the very lovely Mirjam Weichselbraun (I'm sure everybody falls in love with her on an instant) and Oliver Wnuk, who one would like to have as his best buddy. The chemistry between them works from the first moment on. But the whole cast is brilliant, except for maybe Rolf Scheider, who's a fun guy though, but is acting was a bit poorly. So I can recommend it sadly only for German speaking movie lovers. This is one of those rare movies where you can see that the whole team had a fun time shooting it and that this fun had been transferred to the audience to a 100%.

The best French movie in years and one of the best ever
19 April 2011
I watched the film (dubbed into German) yesterday in Berlin and this is by far the most beautiful movie, I've seen in decades! An excellent cast, an outstanding script, breathtaking photography and direction and great music makes watching 'Le nom des gens' a lifetime experience!! You can cry, you can laugh, you can think about your own family's past and you can remember a lot of the things that happened in the film from your own life!! Once again did the French prove, that they are the only filmmakers out there, who have the sense for that 'certain something'! When the credits appear, you feel like you have to watch the film over and over again.

Worse than I expected
18 April 2010
I wanted to watch this movie, 'cause I usually like the actors and the genre. But here, I really got disappointed. First thing I noticed and shook my head - the haircut of Sam Worthington. Everyone else had long hair, but it looks like Perseus found a hairdresser back then, who cut his hair exactly a couple of inches. Great! Why didn't all the other persons go there?? He would have been the perfect actor for this role, if he had just a bit more courage and less vanity. Okay, here are some déjà vus now. The battle with the scorpions reminded me a lot of "Starship Troopers". When they all walked the whole way to the witches, it was "Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring". And where I had to laugh out loud was the scene where Sam Worthington flew Pegasus! This scene was absolutely "Avatar", fun fact - he rode the Banshee there!!! They could have made more out of it, but the final result was quite devastating. Well, at least for me.

A remake the world didn't need
31 August 2007
I didn't watch the movie in the theater, 'cause I am a fan of the original three French movies (haven't seen the 4th one yet). "Taxi 1-3" are so funny and full of weird action scenes, that I was doubtful, when I heard about this remake and saw the first trailer in the theater back then. The trailer was awful and apparently these were the "best" scenes of the movie.

Anyway, last week they showed this movie on German TV and I forced myself to watch it. 90 wasted minutes. Jimmy Fallon, as the stupid cop, was ... (fill in any bad words you are thinking of), Queen Latifah - well, okay. The only reason why I gave this movie two stars instead of none, simply because of Jennifer Esposito, who I really like. She lit up the movie in the few minutes she was on-screen.

If any company, who's in charge of making a remake of an excellent foreign movie, should think about dubbing those, rather then to badly copy them. Only originals are original!

One of the years best comedies
10 July 2007
I watched this movie yesterday at a pre-screening in Berlin. Without knowing what to expect I went there with a friend. When we came out of the theater, we've had tears in our eyes - it was just too hilarious! I haven't laughed that much in a movie for quite a while. If you love black-humor, "Death at a funeral" is definitely a must-see movie! It's full of bizarre scenes (partly earthy though, nevertheless funny), great cast (especially Alan Tudyk, who's having quite a lot of laughs on his side) and the script is so awesome! Dean Craig has done an excellent job by writing it, Frank Oz by directing one of the year's best comedy movies! You won't regret watching it!

"Who is watching?" ... me, but it was a mistake
2 July 2007
As the comments said before ... this movie was boring. I've bought the DVD on the flea-market for 1,50€ and I thought, what can I do wrong? Well, I was proved, that I could have spent the money on something else. The only good part of the movie was when they opened the masks in that fancy house where there was a party. Okay, there's a party ... but from one scene to the other - where the heck are the guests??? Same with the restaurant and the subway-station. ... Talking of subways, when Susana is on that motorcycle and her hands are being taped on it, Toni and Alex are trying to rescue her, 'cause a train is slowly coming closer. Here's the weird part. When they went into the tunnel, it was approximately 100m away from the end of the platform. But when the train chases the motorcycles, it seems like the platform is kilometers away. After watching it, I really regretted it. The idea of the movie was good though, but the result as a whole wasn't good at all.
