Io sono l'amore (2009)
A Soufflé's only as good as it's final , No dice
Excellent camera angles, lighting, and authenticity first off. In my estimation good acting from the main characters, the grand father and Edo especially held their scenes. The flaws begin here. There are so many seeming plot ingredients into the film, The business being sold off, rivalry beteen father and son, the Cook wanting to build a restaurant of he's dreams, the hint of a story surrounding the daughters sexuality, the landlady.
These potential plots inevitably summount to simple distractions from the main story, leaving little time to focus on the main characters.
The Wife, whom falls in love with her friend's son, is so underdeveloped and placade, by the end where she runs off, I couldn't care where she intended to run to, had to fast forward to the credits. Edo, whose character I enjoyed, finds out about he's mother's affair, at which point I held my breathe awaiting a climax, Lo and behold 2 seconds later he's dead..as in dead dead.
The sister's a lesbian, the brother's, just another background character. The Father's a workaholic, and the Grandmother, well it appears the director thought Every good movie needs a grandmother.
The sex scene, is as unerotic as it was unnecessary, the whole movie built up like an exuisite Soufflé, the acting, characters, plot and direction, but died as instantly and timely as the death of the main male character.
With all these Italian love films I've seen, I'm beginning to wonder if Italians truly understand the meaning of the word. Seems they equate it to kids having sex, or simple infidelity, well takes more than and a few good scenes to make a 1st class movie.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
In clear precise words, what was wrong, and what was right
========================= OK here are the drawbacks ==========================
1. Too many robots, it's like having too much metal.
2. All you remember about the women in the film after watching it is, There were two hot chicks in the movie one posed, whiled the other played soft porn then upgraded her role by (**Spoiler**) transforming into a robot. (/spoiler)
3. The camera spins around WAY too much, we get it, a lot of work went into transformers transforming, we get it after the first 2,3 transformations, good work boys, now stop milking it
4. Whats with all the slapstick comedy, dog on dog, robot on human shagging, we get it Meghans supposed to be super sexy in this movie, don't need a robot to shag her leg to re-Iterate that, all her constantly perfect make-up enhanced poses, right in the midst of Gallactic robot battles and life threatening situations has confirmed that point already.
5. Which is perhaps one of the worst things about the movie, you realise the Military could handle the Decepticons, without the main actor going on an epic crusade to revive Optimus Prime. If you look at the final battle, 80% of the robots we're wasted by tanks, and the Navy's super secret weapon, which for some reason seemed to only fire once...even though it was sufficient to take out the baddest decepticon.
========= Good bits, =========
and there were, 1. Awesome robotic fights, fully entertaining for about an hour and a couple of minutes,..after that it very quickly dawns on you that it's just slabs of metal hitting each other while the camera swings around.
2. The two "Hip" robots, if you actually heard what they were saying, were pretty funny.
3. La Bouf, is pretty funny actor.
4. The cast, with the exception of the women - when they weren't looking hot - Was Sound, not the likes of Edward Norton, or Bale, but well above average.
Conclusion; They shouldn't have restricted Meghan fox to posing, and staring, she's not a bad actor, they should'v given her "Meaningful" again "MEANINGFUL" dialogue.
Once they realised they didn't care about the story have as much as robots beating the crap out of each other and the art of their transformation, they shouldn't have tried to have a deep story, look at Smoking Aces, simple concept, Assassins kill some random guy, get he's heart, guns blazing, No problem.
Kingdom Hearts II (2005)
Beautiful action mixed with pre-teen dialogue, and 80% Disney fillers, farcry from KH1 expectations,
The following is whats wrong with kingdom hearts 2
1. The Diaologue was unambigiously for 8 year olds, Disney loving pre-teens, by the time you get through most of the game you'd hear the repeat of the word "Friendship." "Dont be sad we can do it cause were friends" it'd make you re-think playing the in the midst of mature friends.
2. The main storyline is just about 10% of the whole game. The rest is simply Disney fillers, some good a lot boring and redundant.
3. The worlds aren't complex in the least, not much chance of exploration.
4. The game progress itself is redundant, it's pretty much, go to worlds, kill heartless boss, go around a second time kill a stronger boss, then go to the final world and kill off organisation 13.
5. The final drive systems, master and final are a bit too powerful and uncontrollable in that the moves you do aren't selective, your simply tapping the x button and watching fire works, it gets boring.
good parts
- Amazing moves - Nice music, - Cool Bossess, - Real Time fighting - Sephirot
thats about it, thankfully the storyline, and the above, as well as a good mix of characters make this a far more than average game.
Conclusion - Not a bad game though, falls severely short of my expectation. When i played the game a second time due to boredom, i skipped about 90% of the scenes, just stuck to improving the drives and killing Bossess.
Elektra (2005)
Like watching a white belt martial artist on crack, killing demonic assassins.
So as not to seem a pissimist or with biased reviews, i actually watched this film having heard all the bad things about it, forgot them and thought to myself, How bad could a film with a hot looking chick be.
Started pretty good, with the hot looking chick staring at a lake, some action scenes followed, and some not too bad acting. The problem starts after watching 5minutes of "Action". You realise even for a sci-fi film there are waaayy too many bits which do not add up.
First of all, we see assassins with amazing powers who you start to think "Hmm, this guy is pretty cool, woulnd't mind watching him for a while, it would be pretty hard for elektra to kill..." 2 seconds later elektra who is pretty much a hot chick who knows how to summersault and no more skills than a white belt katana jujitsu student, somehow ends up killing them o_O *Slight Spoiler - She stabs an assassin with full force which barely scratches him, he cuts the tree she's standing on, walks away and somehow manages after a 5minute walk to be hit by the not so huge tree as it fell...not thrown...fell.
She "effortlessly" defeats another guy who can sprout literally 400 or more snakes from he's chest, by taking a leisure walk up to him, and twisting he's neck. You would think one with such amazing powers who knows he's weakness would not use it right in the middle of the field where she can see him -_- After watching the film, i can just about say the only people who made the film authentic were the hand assassins, and the blind old guy who very convincinly owns the screen whenver the camera is on him.
Dalkomhan insaeng (2005)
The character is inconsistent, He's vengeance un-satisfying. I'll pass on this one.
Let's be realistic, and state the facts in pros and cons of this film. Pros - Good lighthing and effect (as almost everyone said) beautiful music, reminded me so much of the God father, flawless beauty in terms of the cars, buildings etcetera.
Yes, it had all those things, but that doesn't necessarily make a good film,
Cons - The character was "not" consistent. He starts off as a gangster, one you could see as a cool tempered cold hard killer, whose never been in love...yet he meets a not so attractive girl and falls in love with her under 2 days...realistic? Unlikely.
- Secondly for such a calculated hard killer, with the skills of a top notch fighter, *spoiler* He gets beaten up by 3 guys, who magically appear in he's house without he's senses acknowledging their presence in the least, and manages to get stabbed repeatedly while he has a gun at he's disposal */spoiler*
If you want to see vengeance carried out, watch Gladiator, seems this guy on the other hand, gets through with dumb luck, and gets killed simply for he's unproffesionality. Forgive me, but the vengeance was not in the least satisfying, it's a good pass time, but i won't be watching this again.
EDIT: 2 Years I re-call being told, on youtube as I berated the film with these same comments, that the entire film was he's imagination, apparently he's life as a top rate, cool Gangster was so boring, he imagines the whole thing. A point reinforced by the ending scenes, where he Shadow Boxes. If this is the case...This is an awesome film . ]
If not, I feel even worse about the film, given I had to watch it again, and my previous points against it were re-affirmed.
Ballet gyoseubso (2004)
It's like watching the life of a generic 14year old, Make sure your fast forward button is easily accessible
This film is good yes, but the only and fatal problem is the stories they chose to focus on. Initially We have a kid by the name of Kang Min-jae, whose story starts of well, with he's main friends carrying a lot of energy and distinctive characteristics, but as the story goes on, it starts to drag, the novelty is lost, and we soon realise this kid is over dramatic, naive, and has a pretty uneventful and lazy life. The other main character being the girl he likes, is plainly a snotty, egoistical girl, possibly the most entertaining scene with her is when she yells at a couple of guys on a bike, they get off, and one of them knocks some sense into her.
Now the stories which makes this film actually worth a 30minutes viewing, is that of the kid whose father died, and has to take care of he's brother, he's character, resolve, and he's views on life is very well written and equally acted, as with the main characters friend who is a dancer, their emotions and reactions to their life situations are far more realistic and captivating, than the awkward rants and childish reaction of the main actor and lady.
It seems everyone else has a good story to tell, yet sadly it's their uneventful, un-riveting story which gets center stage. It gets to the point you simply want this story to end.
If you want an interesting film, with captivating characters, see Daisy, Guns n' Talks, Attack on the gas station, and others, but as for this, if you simply feel like watching the life of a kid who got to the age of 20 far too quickly and as a result has the attitude of your average unlearned 14 year old, go for this,....either way i would advice you make sure the fast forward button on your VCR or Media player are easily accessible.
Nabbeun namja (2001)
Life in the brothel, vs Disney fantasy = No
Due to boredom one night and the encouragement of having watched a string of quite interesting though often unusual Korean films i found myself a fan of Korean entertainment.
Until i came across this, Lets start with the plot Basically you have a perhaps bright college student with a potential future, a "Bad boy" in all sense of the word...literally, and a brothel. The young girl unfortunately for her steals some money from a man (Which turns out to be a setup by the main character" and is forced to pay it off, Not by getting a loan from the bank, family, friends like a normal woman, but by prostitution.
Hence beginning a "tale of life at the brothel". Basically, the skeleton of the film from here on end is this, She gets raped, over and over, and over, tries to escape the brothel, The "Main Character" catches her, brings her back to the brothel so she can get raped some more by random horny guys, while he watches from the other side of a glass, Why? heres the twist - He's in love with her, and telling her simply wouldn't have done.
As the film literally drags on, with the constant pounding of the girls miseries it gets to the point where when he gets into a fight, or gets stabbed, which as it turns out he does, you smile and think to yourself "Finally it ends! he got what he deserved in the end, Go Karma", sadly yet humorously He stands up, and shrugs it off, literally just walking away with no medical assistance what so ever.
He's fairytale reality does not end there, he somehow as a crown to all he's crimes, and violent nature ends up getting the girl whose life he inherently destroys throughout the length of the movie to reprocate he's love, and so concluding this "Reality of how life in the directors underworld is like" they walk of into the sunset.
From this fiasco of an imitation of life in an "Underworld society" we learn that If you want a woman to love you, fellows flowers and candy simply won't do.
I had to watch Daisy, to get the bad taste of this film out of my mind. It's sad to see a film like this get rated higher than a 3.1, for the only truth; If the Male leads character depicted in the movie was in fact brought before the public in a real life scenario, we'd gather our pitch forks, and throw him to the jury yelling the sweet sounds of life imprisonment. Yet he's portrayed behind the lens of a camera and suddenly,...He's simply misunderstood.
