La Reina del Sur (2011)
Season 1 and Season 2 are totally different
I love loved the first season of La Reina del Sur. Smart writing, amazing cast and nicely paced. The character Theresa is gritty, determined and above all else, very intelligent. Season 2 would have us believe that Theresa is an inexperienced, half hysterical fool. This is a woman who rose up from the gutter to be one of the worlds greatest narco traffickers. If you watch season 2 you will be shocked to see Theresa stumbling around crying, trusting the wrong people, ignoring huge red flags when dealing with colleagues and associates, as well as dismissing the advice of her good friend and mentor the Russia. It's almost comical in its absurdity. The story line with her daughter is like pulling teeth. Thank you I don't need to watch another episode about what the girl is eating in the basement of her kidnappers house while playing with glow in the dark fluorescent markers. Come on. The plot is so slow I've dozed off more than once. None of it rings true. I'd give Season 1 a solid 8.5/10. I'd give season 2 a 4/10.
