When in Hwood, copy, copy, copy.
4 February 2024
Blah, blah, blah. Face facts folks originality in media is DEAD. Everything is a copy of a copy of a remake of a re imagined remade copy.

The worst part is everyone seems to have the attention span of a Goldfish. The original film was dull at best with fan people simply watching their favorite actors being themselves.

This year we see this remake, the Fallout series, the Walking Dead non films, the Orphan Black remake and various very dull social fallacies to entertain the enlightened amongst us.

Please giant meteor hit soon and then everything will seem original when we rediscover fire and storytelling by cave light.

I am starting to lean toward the throw out the tv crowd.

Why waste my hard earned money on bad entertainment when food is so expensive?

Finally something without roided out Anorexic body image people
12 January 2024
I liked the story. The incorporation of Indigenous mythology is impressive. So was the signing and the disability.

Everyone looked like a real person. Not a raided out anorexic freak.

The ending was a sweet change of pace from your average actioner.

I have noticed that any Indigenous programing allows realistic body imagery to be incorporated no matter what the service.

And only a single character had some special back story incorporating any type of training.

So many modern series and films are dull and repetitious due to ex military, ex spy, ex blah blah. Give me a Walter Mathau or Gene Hackman or the old Brit spy, not Bond, regular person looks any day.

Eventually creators will catch on that the real world in no way reflects their isolated limited contact system.

At least Asians and most Europeans are allowed to age gracefully.

Disney slide back into reality and stop losing money.with the social manipulation your business model failed at.

For those who did not realize what those previous past figures represented, they were not aliens. Read some Mythology sometime. Nice to see North and South American creation myths move into the 21st century.

Pretty much sucked as a Netflix alternative to Star wars.
11 January 2024
My god the search for allies was so simplistic one had to be medicated to enjoy it.

Nothing stood out explosions and slow mo combat scenes.

Yawn.

And this was based on the Seven Samurai? The Toshiro Mifune character was a joke. At least in the original and in the Magnificent Seven, original not modern rip off, he had a voice. The representation of poor people.

I actually dread the fact there will be at least two more of these to dull an already insipid audience to their early demise.

Please some one sue streaming services for life time lost in the hopes dull, tedious, and ultimately useless entertainment will pay viewers not on drugs for the hours of life lost waiting for anything significant to happen.

Netflix if you wanted to do something original use the works of Neal Asher and create your own universe that is more interesting. Much like Amazon did half assed with the Expanse.

Good but Asians for white dummies.
11 January 2024
I enjoyed the show. Some of the acting was flat and too much coincidence.

I have noticed a couple of shows are basically Asians for white Dummies. Mostly an attempt to capitalize on the Korean and Chinese shows.

Unlike Kim's Convenience which actually addressed second generations in a few episodes, none of the US Asians were viewed that way.

Michelle Yeoh was NOT a Tiger mom pushing Bruce to work harder.

One Brit travel series involving an Asian character on a Chinese backpacking tour addressed by the natives as a " Banana". Much like Indigenous people address some as "Apples".

Over simplified Warrior rip off.

One of the high points of Asian and Nordic programs is the comprehension that everything does NOT have a happy ending. When copying those US ALWAYS screws up with both the required romance and happy ending.

I would also recommend US viewers to check out the early Triad films. Infernal Affairs was amazing but ruined with the US remake.

Ekin Cheng was mentioned but not Andy Lau.

The John Cho fame went to his head was a lovely nod to something similar with William Shatner.

Only five for dumbing the show to a White audience.

So Ellie is Mushroom Blade
13 March 2023
Big reveal that Ellie is Mushroom Blade.

Ending sucked like the game. Game ending was possibly the worst final battle I have ever encountered. I mean the very last boss.

What I don't understand is why the game was not ADAPTED instead of DUPLICATED.

Pretty tedious watching the exact same story copied from the game with the only ADAPTED part being the crappy Bill and Frank episode.

Where to from here? Copy the second game and keep the nostalgia rolling for another year?

Adapt the second season and beyond so it does not turn into another Game of Thrones debacle? Wait wasn't Ellie in that as well?

Create a third video game to copy for season three?

I get the whole nostalgia thing, but frankly the series is underwhelming.

Joel and Ellie are likeable and had fine chemistry until the final episode. It felt a little too sugary and forced. Joel seemed like kind of a suck up when dealing with Ellie for the first ten or so minutes. As of he microdosed MDMA before they had the dialogue.

I was ambivalent about the game and the same with the series.

But hey nothing else to kill time these days.

No clue what it is about noe how anyone relates to anything else
8 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea as to how anything relates to anything else. I see a handful of "derelicts" coming and going. They seem to know each other but we never understand how nor why they do.

Really is this what Brit dramedy has devolved to? Shameless was awesome and at least referenced how the various characters interacted and knew each other in the first episode.

This looks to be driftless losers wandering to and fro with no goal in mind.

Break your friends car window, sit in the back for a short period of time and then never meet the friend nor explain why they left the backseat.

Worst of all there was no one likeable, no one eating the scenery, everyone just seemed to drift into the various backgrounds never to be seen again.

Maybe episode two will be better.

Excellent nearly exact copy of the game virtually no effort involved and ep 3 sucked
2 February 2023
I will be purposefully vague.

The game, first did NOT play the second, was ok. Joel had a soothing voice and everything else was simple grind.

I originally intended to NOT watch the series.

But I have grown somewhat fond of Pascal. He is very similar to Nathan Fillion in LOU. Sounds like, looks like. And even moves like him.

Actually if they make a new version of Firefly he could play his son. Thus allowing two generations on screen at once, if Fillion chose to guest star.

Ellie really grew on me. Dry Brit wit, slightly Asperger look and seemingly fine acting ability. Then again what else would be expected of a Brit actress?

And she swears like a sailor.

Obviously the writers did not think through the noise factor. Everyone seems to have attached junk that would clink making sounds which the beasts may hear.

Everything was tooling along smoothly though a bit slowly until episode 3.

Sadly the game character arc of the two characters in that episode was way more involving than in the series. I know they were tossed in to placate the audience,In the game the reveal was at the END of the activities reading a note. That minuscule aspect won the game an award and accolades.

Ep3 was a waste of characters. Taking a fully fleshed out game character, having Joel warn Ellie about him, then NEVER meeting him. Simple throw aways.

And dumb at that.

One scene where the well seasoned character stands in the middle of the road, everything blazing with fire, and using his scoped hunting riffle fires out into the attackers.

Duh, well lit, scoped rifle, hide behind something and zero in then move to the next cover.

Every ten year old who has played a first person shooter understands that.

Even the worst episodes of walking Dead were better planned and executed than this. Truly this could have been slipped into TWD reruns and no one would be able to tell the difference. You know the early weepy seasons, maybe after meeting Herschel.

If the creators intent is to simply copy instead of ADAPT the game then we get a single season.

Ellie gets two stars, pascal gets two stars, Torv gets honorable mention.

This is not the show I eagerly await all week long.

That would be Doom patrol. Or maybe even Fringe reruns.

See how I worked Torv in there.

Childishly obscene, worst toon evah
30 December 2022
This sucked. It is childishly obscene with a very slight of addressing adult topics.

C'mpn Netflix, ever wonder why you lose money and are forced into purchasing Indian and Turkish programming? BECAUSE YOU WASTE IT ON THIS CRAP!

No season 2 of Resident Evil? Two to three season runs of quality work then BAM it's gone.

How can a streaming service manage Dark and 1899 and still include this mindless childish homage to the worst Hustler cartoons of the 90's?

Ok, if someone wants to braindeadout and not read subtitles for quality foreign material this makes a perfect white noise English language background voice actors I get you need to eat, but at some point there must be a line you refuse to cross and possibley accept the fact you may skip a meal or two instead of demeaning yourselves..

Hmm, straight forward story and action but just a hair off.
10 December 2022
It was nice to see something without unnecessary padding. The people, actors, and scenery looked historically accurate. I appreciate the ugliness of real lives of any time period.

The plot was straight forward revenge and the action fell in it's proper place. Not over done, not underdone.

Maybe the script could have used a bit more complexity. It never ran slow yet one understood where everything was headed.

There were a couple of surprises. Twists but nothing jaw dropping.

Although at one point some insights arise that offers an alternative point of view. Much like the original Last man on earth, at least the book and the Vincent Price film was fairly close to the book.

Nice time killer, not much of a re-watch .

Dull as dirt.
10 December 2022
This season feels as if they took all the dullest parts of Lord of the Rings and strung them together. Remember that tedious season of The Walking Dead?

Yep, similar experience.

I pretty much blame the utter failure on Jackson and his unquenchable need to turn a simple two and a half hour film into far more than was necessary, right Hobbit?

Sure Amazon wants to duplicate that success, except without any action to attract an audience.

On the other hand the scenery and cinematography is magnificent. Overall the acting is fine with no miscasts.

Hire better writers. Maybe grab someone from Deadpool or Doom Patrol.

I noticed a serious, hahaha, lack of humor.

No humor and no action how is that an appealing starting season.

It even ruined my Skyrim experience.

With any luck Amazon will realize that in season two instead of dumping tons of cash into a slow story, they should dump tons of cash into good writers.

Cody Goodfellow is free as is Jasper Fforde.

I imagine they would make wonderful tweaks to the scripts..

Reminded me of Pontypool
5 December 2022
I was reminded of Pontypool and various story plots of Charles Stross and Greg Bear regarding mental virus ideas.

It was a nice change of pace from Zombies and the actors all looked "real".

A pleasant edition was no sex instead of love character plotting.

And older people were actually depicted as stars and not simply incompetent bystanders as one finds in most US productions.

I'm always surprised at the respect and wide characterization foreign media allows older adult roles. There is no pandering to the youth market or excessive gore and sexuality.

Either way everyone should watch and create their own opinions instead of following someone else's.

That includes mine.
