The House of Mirth (2000)
Hmmmmm...just another period drama?
Hmmmm...not exactly a bad effort by the director, as the acting was nice, and visuals were really cool, but as far as the story and the plot go, there's nothing much to grasp. It's a really weak story based on a New Yorkian in the early 1900s, who seems to get into trouble with money. Gillian Anderson is good as the leading woman, but maybe a stronger actress could have been a better choice, as she was...quite flimsy, and flat. Eric Stoltz made up for that though, as he was superb as her other half. But Dan Ackroyd. Who would have put his name in the same sentence as the words 'Period Drama'. Hmmmmm....The film is too long, and I think 90 mins would have been far better. The characters develop nicely, but doesn't really save the story. Fans of Period dramas might enjoy this, but I don't recommend this to those who dont. Not a bad effort but certainly not a good one either.
Fa yeung nin wah (2000)
Wow. Mind-blowing.
WHAT AN AWESOME FILM!!!!!!!! I came out of the theatre feeling stunned. The film that I had just seen was one of the best films I have seen in my life. I had my eyes glued to the screen. It's very symbolic, visually lush, beautifully shot, and gorgeously told. It's basically about two people who move into a flat and live next door to each other with there partners, who are assumed to be having an affair with each others partners. Assuming this, our two heroes act out what they think their partners are getting upto. There is an obvious repression of feelings for each other, with the use of vouryistic camera work, body language, and symbollic stairways. It's a visual feast, and hard not to like. Some of the story gets slightly confusing but that's nothing. The ending is one of the most beautiful (and anti-hollywood) endings I have ever seen in my life, and visually amazing. The films haunting score adds to the mood. I highly recommend this film to anyone with an open mind, and respect. What a superb film.
Det sjunde inseglet (1957)
Such an awesome film
The Seventh Seal is the best film ever (in my eyes anyway). It's visually stunning, and beautifully shot. Max von Sydow stars as the dissilusioned night coming back from the crusades, and while playing a game of chess with death learns the meanings of life. This film will make you cry with delight. I highly reccomend this film to anyone and everyone.
The Doom Generation (1995)
A rush.
Wow. What a film. This highly enterntaining, slick, fast movie, requires multiple viewings. The more you put in the more you get out. The story is a simple one. A teenage couple, sick of the world, pick up a drifter after a concert at quite a metaphorical venue. They then get dragged through murder, drugs, sex (Highly un-erotic), ya know, the usual. The dreamy, surreal visuals are a delight, and the symbollic use of colours and light are mind-blowing if not hypnotic. Please dont be disgusted, during the first viewing, instead look between the lines, where you will find the truth. I highly recommend this film to anyone who like to ask 'why?'.
