The Outer Limits: Moonstone (1964)
The kind of ep that gave Outer Limits a bad name
Look . This ep has much to recommend it including comely Ruth Roman in skirted form as an Earth scientist on the Moon. I give it passing grade just for Roman alone not even getting to the aliens who are intriguing and look like the sunflowers in a Van Gogh painting. But unfortunately the talk of the Korean War brings this ep down . In real life mass-murdering North Korea completely started that entire war. The US and allies like Canada saved part of Asia in their stopping NK leader Kim ll Sung from his attempted illegal and immoral try at invading South Korea. But this ep paints the Americans in the role of a small bad guy in the fight. The Outer Limits was history before long due to its nasty and wrong treatment of America like this ep. Still Ruth Roman is great to watch!
The Andy Griffith Show: Fun Girls (1964)
Not a fan of this idea
Joyce Jameson was certainly very beautiful to watch on a show in the 60s. Jeanne Carson was excellent in the escaped lady convict ep of this show. But combining the two of them over and over in the same scenes has a massive problem. The dialogue between the two of them sounds awful contrived. It looks for forced of the show's writers to try to convince us that these two talk this way to each other all the time. Thelma and Helen had what sounded like real dialogue. The fact that they ( T and H) do not understand when they see the fun girls and give especially Andy the great benefit of the doubt maybe very hard for children watching this show also. Joyce Jameson would have been great enough as just one fun girl dividing herself between Andy and Barney ( or trying to).
The Avengers: Wish You Were Here (1968)
Thorson beautiful and magnificent in this
Her character is wonderfully fleshed out also by having a relative of Tara's be in this. The very idea of her being locked up so against her will for life has intrigue.
But this episode has a big problem knocking it from ten stars down to eight and a half. We will forget any inspiration for this episode. That is unimportant! Now to to the problem. It is the lack of Steed. We only see him mostly at headquarters. The scriptwriters have a bumbling agent go in to try to rescue prisoner Tara. Why? Why not have given the job to Macnee's far more competent Steed himself? While I totally love the way Thorson's character handles the situation I did not want the superfluous guest starring agent in this. It would have been more than sensible enough for Steed to have showed up himself at the strange resort and to have had him team up with Tara in rescue. A sad lack and underuse of the great Steed character!
Actually Steed may have rescued Tara after all. There may have been more captors on her than one sees.
Dark Shadows: Episode #1.996 (1970)
Great episode thanks to beautiful lady regular
Elisabeth Eis is so beautiful and appealing as cool barmaid Buffie Harrington. Eis joined the show only in its 70s episodes. She was a fresh and very beautiful face to the show.
By this point the show is very from the beginning era of Vickie, Burke and David. This is PT. Highly beautiful Buffie used to work at Collinwood in PT. (She never worked there in real time!)
Chris Pennock ( as Yeager) has to be highly abusive to Eis in these eps. This must have been very difficult for him when in real life he was doubtless in much of awe of her for all her good looks and sex appeal. No one could blame him either!
Dark Shadows: Episode #1.462 (1968)
Bland ep !?!?!-- not in a million years!!
Excellent episode where very beautiful Vicki has a dream (?) in which the ghost of Jeremiah Collins rises out of the ground and comes to her and warns her about how dangerous Barn is.
A few points.
1. When in the 1795 did Vicki ever see the ghost of Jeremiah. If never how did she know what it looked like?
2. Jeremiah when alive was the spitting image of her fiance Burke. Is that why his ghost comes to her. Is this really Burke's ghost?
3. Why does Vicki not be scripted to comment to Jeremiah whether he was Burke or not?
PS Jeremiah Collins's character was originally married to Josette LaFreniere later changed to DuPres.
The F.B.I.: Summer Terror (1970)
Brilliant ep as beautiful Beverly McKinsey is a standout!!
She plays Cathy, one of the kidnappers' team. She is handling making ransom calls and getting the money. Super attractive and very highly appealing you cannot even dislike her at all. Beverly is just marvelous. And you feel her character's pain when she talks about having to stand on her feet for 10 hours a day on her regular job. This kidnapping is simply her way out of the routine grind she is stuck in.
This is one of many roles McKinsey played on primetime at this point. You can also catch her on eps of 'Mod Squad' as well. She was simply the best. The producers of this ep of the F. B. I. Ere lucky to get her indeed!
Game of Death (1978)
Sexy Colleen Camp actually carries a great deal of this film
She excellently plays Billy Lo's dedicated love interest, Ann Morris. She is beautiful and sexy and highly appealing in her role. I admit this film is exploitative to a a small point to be sure. But what of it? With Miss. Camp appealing beyond measure this is a genuinely well crafted romance-martial arts action adventure. After one of two fine viewings it is easy to forget Billy is mostly not Bruce Lee. You do not care who plays him. Camp is so mega- ultra-appealing and Billy seems like a real individual no matter who plays him at the moment. I cannot praise this film enough. Just needs a second viewing.
PS Steve McQueen was really asked to be in this. As who!?! Probably a rumor only. Enjoy Camp a whole lot in this.
Hawaii Five-O: A Bird in Hand... (1980)
Waste of episode indeed
It does not even seem much like an ep of H50 at times. The main guest star is non-actress/ bad-radical-in-real-life Lara Parker, playing one of the marked targets. She more than just hogs up the scenery -- it actually seems at times like the whole ep is just a showcase for her. Strange thing is Parker runs the gamut in looks from being nice looking to moderately repulsive looking. She tried so hard in her totally unsuccessful attempts at acting to look like 50 different women and in this she tries to look like a couple different women all the same though she is not in disguise. The plot gets lost very much due to her horrible ego trip. Bet on that! Nothing can help from the regulars to
and even the very talented fellow guest John Dehner--all can do very little to rescue the ep. When Parker ( who is now deceased in real life) is around everything totally falls apart she is so bad. A real bomb of an ep if you can even remember it is an ep!
Dark Shadows (1966)
Good show to be sure but far from perfect
Look the actors, like beautiful Alexandra Moltke, playing Vicki, are often engaging to be sure.
Now, to the many imperfections the show has. Moments when actors right in a scene flub their lines is one flaw. A second major flaw is when one can see microphones or stage hands in the shot. The microphones are especially common to see.
Another problem with the show is sometimes the actors talk or react uncomfortably and over dramatically courtesy of the script. An example is too often characters resist something. This uncomfortable element is often gratuitous in feeling. And characters sometimes say things you sure wish they had not. It would be better without all of it. The show was dramatic enough.
A final element is they have some people who were very bad in real life on the show. An example was indeed Lara Parker, who played Angelique . See the PS below.
PS Lara Parker was a very bad leftwinger in reality. She hated law enforcement. She wrote an awful book called Salem Branch. The fictional book was about Dark Shadows characters. And it showed local Collinsport police as rotten lying, goonish thugs who try to deny people of Collinsport their otherwise assured constitutional rights. Very ugly way to show law enforcement indeed and in keeping with Parker and her evident leftist non values. And her book also contains probably draft card burning hippies who are shown as the good guys. Deranged writing definitely. Stay away from her bad books. Far, far away.
Hawaii Five-O: The Pagoda Factor (1978)
Slightly simplified but still very well done ep
McGarrett gets a young, former Kowloon member named Joey to escape from prison and do espionage work for Five-O. McGarrett does this without even telling the governor about it. Will the plan work?
The ep sticks to many scenes of very young gang members. Very atypical of this generally mature show. A beautiful lady plays Joey's love interest. Though she's badly finks on him when she discovers he is now with Five-O. Was this a pilot for another show that did not sell? That is a thought. Very good rp all the same. Do not miss it. One of the best eps of the eleventh season ) James MacArthur's last one in the series!
'Way Out: Dissolve to Black (1961)
Nice ep but a few problems
Episode of short lived supernatural anthology. Concerns an actress who comes to the set of a TV show and stays after hours. The simulated murder she takes in part in earlier in the day gives way to a seemingly real murder and she is trapped and powerless to get out of the studio to safety.
A problem. The show is not visually the best. It has early transparent 50s TV production values though it was made in the next decade. It works only for people who ran out of new ( to them) Twilight Zone/One Step Beyond/ Alfred Hitchcock Presents eps to view.
Two problem. What is happening!?! The studio is haunted by demons who lived and we're killed before or what? No real explanation at all is given. Worth viewing just once. Nice looking lady in lead.
Hawaii Five-O: Heads, You're Dead (1976)
Excellent beautiful , sexy lady guest starring
The lady playing Officer Wells. She is a lot fun to watch. And very engaging. When she is on the raft her speech detailing part of her life carries much of the scene. She is also very attractive just to look at when she goes undercover at the Marina.
I really enjoyed this episode. After her the best two things about are Paul Koslo turning in an excellent performance as the leader of the sea going thugs. Plus, it was made with cooperation of the the actual US Coast Guard. But it is the lady playing Wells who makes it the most. So attractive and engaging is she. Tune in aka don't miss it! Very good ep!
Hawaii Five-O: The Moroville Covenant (1980)
Just well done ep
It looks like a strange one kinda. There's rather little action. The scene where Mc-Garrett goes up to the parked car to see who you is pursuing he and Laura and David is action but there is no more till the climax when his former girlfriend pulls a gun.
The story makes sense enough. A politician with a truly accidental murder in his past. Attempted extortion aka blackmail to boot. Possible enough indeed. Unworthy of so much negative ratings.
There is also two great beautiful lady guest stars. One playing David's comely wife. The other ( Diane McBain) his hot old flame from his hometown. This adds a lot to the story and makes it fine viewing.
The Twilight Zone: Of Late I Think of Cliffordville (1963)
Unique ep
Two reasons.
One:the only Twilight Zone appearance of very comely Julie Newmar. She plays Miss. Devlin.( An assistant devil?) She would later be Catwoman on 'Batman'.
Two: more story in this ep than any other TZ ep by far.
I would like to point that another poster on here is very mistaken about the Bible. It is not a collection of fictional stories as that poster seemed to hint. It has archaeological truth to it ( like discovered the remains of the palace of Herod the Great in Israel -- plus Herodian dynasty coinage for just two examples). Plus, scientific accuracy ( like round Earth and the hydrologic cycle and much more). A true story is the Holy Bible.
The Avengers: The Golden Fleece (1963)
Just good third season entry
Several attractive lady guest stars ( like the one playing beautiful Mrs. Kwan) add a great deal to the episode.
Lucky thing too indeed as this ep is interesting enough to hold our interest ( unlike a couple of other eps-see my reviews) but hard to get understandable coherency out of. The Chinese restaurant has what to do with the army outpost? Not easy to understand the connection.
Good moments too of beautiful Honor Blackman's Mrs. Gale. She beats one army guy and when the latter is getting arrested he warns Steed(?) to in ( Steed's!!) self-defense watch out for her!! Struck me funny that bit.
The Avengers: November Five (1963)
Another ep that does the bad thing
Bad thing being failing to sustain your interest throughout. Another ep of this show did this as well. The story opens up with an election. The results between two candidates are given quickly. The victor candidate steps to make a speech and is then shot dead by an assassin.
The rest of the ep is about Mrs. Gale now trying to run for office. Honor Blackman has sexy scenes as Gale here and she is by and far the best thing about This loser ep. Watch her a little here and forget the rest of this otherwise forgettable entry!
BTW Benny Hill was considered funnier than Monty Python by two TV stations--WOR and WLVI. ( In voluntary response to what another poster said!)
The Avengers: Dressed to Kill (1963)
One of the better eps of season 3 thanks to blonde, lady guest
Something about season 3 episodes of the Avengers is slightly inferior to season 2. Hard to say why in many ways. No great and beautiful Venus Smith for one thing. A step down for sure there but what else?
As to this ep it is loads of fun the first thirty minutes. After that it goes downhill. It is uneven as well. Set mostly aboard a train and I guess some old and abandoned train station it has a great element in the Great attractive blonde lady guest ( named Anneke Wills) starring playing Pussy -- a lady dressed like a cat somewhat. She and Macnee's Steed ( the latter who is dressed like Brett Maverick) have great chemistry together. The plot goal takes an interesting backseat to her scenes with Steed.
Hawaii Five-O: Labyrinth (1979)
Honestly well done show
The plot ( already known)makes some sense. Admit it viewers, also, you were tricked twice into thinking the kidnapper lady was the kidnapped lady. Why not having fooled Five-O as well. There were a couple of clues it was the same lady. She had the same pair(?)of torn pantyhose in both times she posed as the kidnapped lady rescued for one.
The guest Tricia O'Neil tried real hard to be all business as a guest star but her beauty and sex appeal showed through a lot. She later did the 1997 film about the overrated Titanic( the Lusitania was indeed a much important ship as it very largely bringing the US into WW1).
The Avengers: Death a La Carte (1963)
Overall good episode
The setting is fine. Steed and Gale have a protection mission that is almost obscure. Then there is homage to Hitchcock's legendary ( though not financially successful) film 'Vertigo'. That scene itself is memorable.
However, despite a lot of goodness there is a massive letdown. It concerns that really cute hotel employee, Josie. She is quite stunning. I thought for sure she and Steed just might have hit it off. A total disappointment that the script does not have her take to him. One I'm very much afraid hurt this episode. She would have been perfect for him. Ahh well. What could have been!!
The Avengers: Conspiracy of Silence (1963)
Just good episode
The settings once again destroy the ep a little ( see my reviews). This has many depressing run down circus settings. But there is a much, much bigger problem than the visual aspects of this one. It's the down on their luck depressing talk so many characters keep sprouting. It becomes a real bummer to keep listening to it. By the time the ep is thirty minutes into it's run you have heard more depressing talk than you care to ( and more than is in ten regular eps of this series). The ep has it's high points. Honor Blackman is (as usual)beautiful to look at. Also, there is a superb sequence filmed outdoors where Steed is hunted by his would-be assassin!
The Avengers: Who's Who??? (1967)
Great episode all due to beautiful guest Patricia Haines
She is simply fabulous as the sexy, beautiful gum chewing infiltrator Lola. She swaps bodies with Mrs. Peel. Her performance then becomes more sincere. Every minute Haynes is in camera is a pure delight.
The machine that switches minds is thankfully real (see my reviews). The rest of the guest cast are ineffectual ( even the actor playing the German (?)scientist). But, again, it's Haines so simply beautiful in this and makes it all so very worth your time. I give it 10 stars officially but thanks to Haines' great face predominating I actually give it 12 stars. Watch her and enjoy it very much!
The Avengers: Murdersville (1967)
Most memorable episode
Easy plot to recall. Mrs. Peel and her lifelong friend ( now lover?) the Major Croft go off to see his new house he bought and they get kidnapped by very crooked formerly honest small town folk. Comments and questions. Interesting how Mrs. Peel ends in an incredible adventure incidental to her job as amateur spy. What's more since the Major was big in the UK Army would a bunch of army personnel be in the area soon looking for him? Would Steed have been smarter ( and was he capable?) to have recruited some fellow spy help to rescue Mrs. Peel rather than coming all alone.
Guest Sheila Fearn is blonde and highly attractive as Jennifer the crooked town's twentyish barmaid. She is a top notch guest in this. Excellent casting decision.
One Step Beyond: Moment of Hate (1960)
Strange ep
The opening shot from is surprisingly not repeated ( at least not in any version I saw). Also, why was Joyce described as not very attractive when she was a beauty. The ep is surreal to be sure. It has little sense of actual time. Was this one really based on some sort of true story? What true story? Other eps in the show are obviously more easily and obviously based on real life than this one.
Newland appears at the end as usual and he mentions an analogy of some seeds being planted some loved and some cursed by the human planters. The curse ones never flourished while the loved ones did. You figure out the rest of the analogy.
The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp: Mr. Earp Meets a Lady (1955)
Gloria Talbot making a guest appearance -- outta sight!!
Beauty Talbot plays a young daughter of a famed Oklahoma rancher. She has just got to meet the increasingly legendary Wyatt Earp. Wyatt is suspicious of her at their first brief meeting as he feels she possibly has something to do with trying to get a member of a murderous gang convict released by escape. As it turns Earp is right about her! ( This ep starring Gloria Talbot is a continuation of the first ep of the the series. In the previous ep Ellsworth based Sheriff Whitney was shot dead. The first ep was highly based on the real life life 1870s killing of Sheriff Whitney. The real Wyatt Earp may or may not have had anything to do with it.)
The Avengers: Don't Look Behind You (1963)
Superb episode
It looked early in the ep like it would be the story of Cathy and that twenty-one year old ( ?) staying in the house but the latter goes off early to see a sick friend of hers. This is not too bad because the totally beautiful Honor Blackman is there to carry the rest of the ep ( besides the lady who left was not quite beautiful just pretty enough and we got ten minutes of her to admire her own good looks).
This ep has a lot of coincidences. Did that stalking guy of an old acquaintance of Cathy's rig that sick friend bit for the other lady to get her out of there or was the sick friend actual. Did that hip guy show up on purpose ( did he work for Steed's side?) or was he also a coincidence? What was Steed really doing in all this? Not of all this is explained but with a beautiful lady and a pretty lady having a lot to do in it we don't care!
PS Enough of this overstated comparison jazz!
