Red Dead Redemption II (2018)
The Greatest Game of All Time
This is not a game. This is an experience that takes you back in over 120 years ago to the last years of the Wild West. The people(characters) you meet along your journey feel so real. The graphics even on my Xbox one are absolutely gorgeous, you will find your self just embracing the beautiful views and night sky that look prettier than real life. I won't go into the story detail because it's best to go in knowing nothing. Arthur Morgan is a complicated but loveable character, you play him as you want good or bad.(recommend being good for the most satisfying story). Also the soundtrack both background and written songs are all incredibly touching. Basically you play this and from now on you will compare any story (tv,movie, book, game) to it. It's the golden standard of storytelling. Thank you to every single person who was involved with this masterpiece.
Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
Episodes like this ignite my Passion for T.V and Film
Wow, wow, wow. Talk about about years worth of pay off. Better Call Saul has just cemented itself as Master Class Television. A devastating incredible twist that is up to the caliber of BB, and Sopranos. Let's start with plot of Plan/Execution. We have been following Kim and Jimmy screw with Howard for weeks now. Getting back at him mainly because it's a blast and they love to cause trouble together. And it was somewhat light hearted until they frame Howard to look like a Cocaine abuser who sleeps prostitutes. And basically ruin his professional career just to mess with him. But all throughout this Lalo has been plotting, scheming and planning his revenge on Gus.
Unfortunately both worlds come clashing together like never before. Jimmies life as a regular lawyer who at one point was trying to work at H. H. M and Saul Goodman "criminal" lawyer and friend of the Cartel meet at a devastating point. Lalo using everything he knows decides to murdering poor Howard in cold blood in front of Jimmy and Kim. Then fades to black. An absolutely punch in the gut in every way.
Onto the Acting/writing. This show has some of actors working in Hollywood. Every main cast actor deserves an Emmy. Performances by Rhea Seehorn, Tony Dalton, and Bob Odenkirk are all especially amazing. This episode proves that Better Call Saul also has probably the best writing team on T. V currently. What a direction to go in. What a way to end a character. This is without a doubt one of the top 3 T. V of all time. Thank you to the cast, set crew, writers, directors everyone. This show means so much to me and my father and for the show to have episodes like this and end so perfectly. It just means the world to me, my passion for film comes from episodes like Plan/Execution thank you.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human (2022)
A fun game with some issues
Gameplay(one big exception) and graphics are very solid and it truly feels like the end of the world. The dying light zombies have always been a bit different with the day and night cycle and that continues here. Plus a way bigger map for you to explore. But there are some issues here that hold this back from being a truly great game. Story and the controls when traversing up and around things. What happens to the simple but extremely fun parkour system? Getting around, jumping and running was the best part of the first game and here it literally feels like I'm learning how to walk again. Way to complicated and there are parts of the game that I almost quit entirely due to how bad the mechanics worked. The story is a barebones story of a zombie apocalypse that you have seen before. Guy from a lab looks for his sister across a destroyed world. Boring villains, boring factions, terrible characters who you wish you had the option to kill. The reason I still enjoyed the game was because of the atmosphere, killing zombies, and once you learn how to get around it can be fun. Overall somewhat disappointing game but I did have some fun with it. Just brace yourself for frustration when first learning the controls, and don't expect TLOU story telling.
The Terror (2018)
Best Mini Series AMC has ever done
This review will be for the first season of the show only. The story of the Franklin Expedition is already a devastating tale but such a fascinating part of history. These men were modern day astronauts going to parts unknown, equipped with the best of the best technology looking for a trade route that could be extremely lucrative if found. All they found however is ice and death. What exactly transpired is unknown but it was no doubt an awful way to go out. The Terror explores real and fictional(you will know when it happens) stories of what may have happened to the expedition crew.
Acting, budget and story lines are all extremely strong. My favorites actors/characters being Jared Harris and Adam Nagaitis. Both play a complex hero/ villain respectively. This being on AMC is a big surprise. The show seems to have a way bigger budget with the caliber of actors, costumes, sets and effects. The entire show makes me just want to curl up in a blanket it feels so cold and dreary. I won't go into to many details because it's worth a watch. And the best parts of the show are focused on reality however the fictional addition does add so much to the insane character of Cornelius Hickey(Adam Nagaitis). The show is worth it just to watch his character try and survive this ordeal.
The Last of Us: Please Hold to My Hand (2023)
Another Really Solid Episode
This episode is back to focusing on Joel/ Ellie and their journey across the country. Mixing in Game plus some original material. The use of Hank Williams playing again is creates a feeling of a lost world and I'm glad it's used.(I wish it played during the crash and beginning gunfight like the game). I was nervous about Joel and Ellie's chemistry the first 3 episodes but now I'm feeling way more comfortable and Ellie comes off a bit more playful and naive as she should. The "Hunters" are getting more of a backstory as with Henry and Sam it seems. Sounds interesting and we'll have to see how it plays out. The main leader however is just not scary in anyway even when she is killing people. She is good actress and seems to normally play a more softer character which she is good at. But intimidating? Powerful? I don't buy it. Im curious to see more of the power dynamic or more to how they took over the FEDRA
zone. Overall another tense episode with some really decent growth with Ellie and Joel, and everything looks so accurate to the game and the decaying world the portrayed is devastating.
YOLO: Crystal Fantasy (2020)
Extremely Underrated Adult Swim Show
This show is such a joy to me. When the show was first released we were all waiting for Smiling Friends so some people just brushed it off. But Micheal Cusack is a genuinely funny voice actor, writer and animator who obviously has all types of hilarious ideas. The humor may not be for everyone. For me all the little songs, and quirky I guess "Australian" characters and bits just kill me every time. Just add so much character and feel to it, and when a show can make me laugh every episode a few times I consider it a success. Plus the surprise of season 2 even happening has been great. The first 3 episodes of season 2 have been fantastic with each being better than the last. And the idea of "serializing"(using that term somewhat lightly) could be a really great idea. Either way hopefully we get more of this show and more Micheal Cusack! Smiling Friend, this and Koala man show that this guy and also the talented crew of YouTube guys (mostly smiling friends) have better comedy and writing skills that what normal Hollywood gives us.
The Walking Dead: Four Walls and a Roof (2014)
One of the Best Episodes of the Show
Walking Dead is literally the most inconsistent show ever. However when it's good it reaches the heights of great T. V. The entire Terminus arc is hands down the greatest changed adaptation from the comic book the T. V writers ever did. Most of the time when the T. V writers do they're own plot or version it's terrible or filler. But what a way to wrap it up, comics fans will notice the little twist at the episode. A good example of "subverting expectations" Considering this and season 6 are the last decent seasons of the show. And the cast from season 4-5 will always be the best. Actual talented actors with great chemistry is something the show lacks in the later seasons. It's always a go to re-watch.
