Free Guy (2021)
Game On
"Free Guy" - A Film So Ludicrous, It's Almost Revolutionary
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Another big-budget action comedy with Ryan Reynolds playing the lead, you say? I'll be darned. Who would have thought that a man known for playing a wise-cracking superhero could branch out and play a video game character who's wise-cracking his way through a virtual world?
But in all seriousness, "Free Guy" is a film that's so over-the-top and ridiculous, it's almost revolutionary. The film is set in a video game world, where Reynolds plays Guy, a non-playable character who suddenly gains consciousness and realizes he's been living in a world where everything is predetermined by the game's code. With the help of a rogue player (played by Jodie Comer), Guy sets out to save his virtual world from its evil creator (played by Taika Waititi) and become a hero in the process.
The film is a visual feast, with its bright and colorful visuals, high-octane action sequences, and non-stop jokes. Reynolds and Comer have fantastic chemistry, and their banter is a highlight of the film. Waititi is also a scene-stealer, bringing his usual brand of quirky humor to the villainous role.
But while the film is entertaining, it's also predictable. The plot is filled with cliches and tropes we've seen countless times before, and the film's message about the power of choice and determination is delivered with a heavy hand.
All in all, "Free Guy" is a film that's both silly and fun, with enough humor and action to keep you entertained for its two-hour runtime. It's not the deepest or most original film out there, but it's still a good time. If you're looking for a movie that's not too serious, with a healthy dose of humor, then "Free Guy" is the film for you.
So, out of 10 stars, I'd give this film a solid 7. It's not a masterpiece, but it's still a lot of fun. Just don't expect to leave the theater feeling like you've learned anything profound.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
"Quiet Please: Andrew's Sarcastic Take on 'A Quiet Place Part 2'"
Greetings, movie lovers! Andrew here, ready to give my take on the latest sequel sensation, "A Quiet Place Part 2."
Let's start with the premise. It's a world where monsters hunt by sound, so you have to be quiet. Got it. But now, in Part 2, the characters have to leave their quiet home and venture out into the dangerous world. That's like leaving a safe space in Monopoly to go to jail. Why would you do that?
As for the acting, well, let's just say that I've seen more emotion from my houseplants. The characters spend most of the movie tiptoeing around, trying not to make any noise. And while that's great for the monsters, it's not so great for the audience.
In conclusion, I would rate "A Quiet Place Part 2" a solid 6 out of 10. Why so high, you may ask? Well, the sound design is top-notch, and the silence is, at times, deafening. But if you're looking for a movie that will make you want to scream just to hear yourself think, then this is the film for.
Don't Look Up (2021)
"Disaster Within a Disaster: Andrew's Sarcastic Review of 'Don't Look Up'"
Greetings, movie lovers! It's Andrew here, ready to give my two cents on the latest film sensation, "Don't Look Up."
First of all, let's talk about the title. Don't look up? Really? I've been in the entertainment business for decades, and I've never heard of a movie title that actively discourages people from watching it. That's some next-level marketing strategy right there.
As for the movie itself, well, it's a disaster. I mean, it's about a pair of astronomers who discover that a giant asteroid is headed for Earth, and nobody believes them. It's a disaster movie, and it's not even a good one.
The acting is mediocre, the dialogue is clunky, and the special effects are underwhelming. It's as if the filmmakers put all their effort into the title, and then just phoned it in for the rest of the movie.
In conclusion, I would rate "Don't Look Up" a solid 4 out of 10. Why so high, you may ask? Well, it's not every day you get to see a disaster movie that's also a disaster.
So, there you have it, folks. "Don't Look Up" is a movie that fails to deliver on almost every level. But if you're in the mood for a poorly made disaster movie, then this is the film for you. Just don't look up.
Cruella (2021)
"Fur-gettable Flop: Andrew's Sarcastic Review of 'Cruella'"
Hello, movie lovers! It's Andrew here, ready to share my thoughts on Disney's latest offering, "Cruella."
Let's start with the premise: a movie about a fashionable villainess who wants to make a fur coat out of puppies? I mean, come on. Even I, with my extensive experience in the entertainment industry, can't wrap my head around that one.
The film tries to be edgy and stylish, but it just falls flat. Emma Stone does her best as Cruella, but even her talent can't save this snooze fest of a movie.
The special effects are impressive, I'll give it that. But the lackluster storyline and uninspired characters make it difficult to get fully invested in the film.
In conclusion, I would rate "Cruella" a solid 6 out of 10. Why so high, you may ask? Well, I have a soft spot for stylish villains and Emma Stone, and the film has just enough of both to make it somewhat enjoyable.
So, there you have it, folks. "Cruella" is a movie that tries to be edgy and stylish, but ultimately falls short. But if you're in the mood for a movie about a villainess who wants to make a fur coat out of puppies, then this might just be the film for you.
No Time to Die (2021)
"No Time to Laugh: Andrew's Ironical Review of 'No Time to Die'"
Greetings, film fans! It's your trusty film critic Andrew, here to give you the lowdown on the latest Bond installment, "No Time to Die."
First of all, let's talk about the title. No time to die? More like no time to live, am I right? But I digress.
The film is a predictable snooze fest, with action scenes that are about as exciting as watching grass grow and dialogue that's as sharp as a rubber knife.
As for the cast, they all seem to be sleepwalking through their performances, including the legendary Daniel Craig himself. I don't know about you, but I was hoping for a bit more energy from a movie about a spy on the edge.
The special effects, while flashy, can't save this film from its lackluster script and uninspired direction.
In conclusion, I would rate this film a generous 5 out of 10. Why so high, you may ask? Well, I'm feeling generous today. But in all seriousness, if you're a Bond fan looking for the thrill of a lifetime, you'd be better off re-watching a classic Bond film. Or, you know, doing just about anything else instead.
So, there you have it, folks. "No Time to Die" is a movie that, despite its name, will make you wish you had taken a bit more time to do anything other than watch it.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
"A Legend Not Worth Remembering: Andrew's Witty Take on 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings'"
Ahoy there, movie lovers! It's your old pal Larry King, here to share my thoughts on the latest superhero extravaganza, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings."
Let's start with the action scenes, which are about as thrilling as watching paint dry. And don't even get me started on the special effects, which look like they were done on a computer from the early 2000s.
The humor, a subject near and dear to my heart, is as funny as a root canal, and as witty as a block of wood.
The storyline, while attempting to be epic and grandiose, falls flat like a soufflé that's been sitting out too long.
In conclusion, I would rate this film a generous 4 out of 10. Why so high, you may ask? Well, I'm feeling generous today. But in all seriousness, if you're looking for a superhero movie with thrills and laughs, you'd best look elsewhere. If, however, you're looking for a film that'll have you counting the minutes until it's over, then "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" is just what the doctor ordered.
Sing 2 (2021)
"Not So Sing-Along-Worthy: Andrew's Sarcastic Review of 'Sing 2'"
Greetings, my fellow film enthusiasts! It is I, Larry King, here to share my thoughts on the highly anticipated sequel, "Sing 2."
Where do I begin? The music, oh the music! As memorable as a dream forgotten upon waking, and as tuneful as a choir of cats.
The animation, so colorful and vibrant, it almost makes up for the lack of depth in the story. Almost.
The humor, a subject near and dear to my heart, is as funny as a funeral and as witty as a brick.
In conclusion, I would rate this film a generous 3 out of 10. Why so high, you may ask? Well, I'm feeling generous today. But in all seriousness, if you're looking for a musical that'll have you tapping your toes and singing along, this ain't it. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a snooze-fest with a few pretty visuals, then be my guest and give "Sing 2" a shot.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
"Thou Art Warned: Andrew's Hilariously Critical Review of 'Zack Snyder's Justice League'"
Good morrow, fellow moviegoers! Tis I, the bard himself, Andrew, here to share our thoughts on the latest installment of the DC Universe, "Zack Snyder's Justice League."
Let us begin with the special effects, so visually stunning they are, but with a pace that is slow, slower, slowest. Tis like watching a snail cross a line, and not a race.
The humor, ah the humor! Tis as scarce as honesty in politics, and as funny as a funeral.
The storyline, a tangled web of heroes and villains, so complex it is, it leaves one's mind more confused than a fool in a maze.
In conclusion, this film we rate with but a single thumb, for to rate it any higher would be to flatter it more than truth allows. If thou art a fan of sluggishness and confusion, then this film is for thee. But, if thou prefer'st thy films to be light and quick, then we suggest thou go'st elsewhere.
Dune (2021)
"Buckle Up for the Least Exciting Adventure of the Year: Andrew's Review of 'Dune'"
Well folks, I'm here to share my thoughts on the latest big-screen adaptation of "Dune." And let me tell you, I was as excited to see this movie as I am to watch paint dry.
First off, the special effects. Oh boy, the special effects. I mean, if you like sand, you're in for a real treat. But seriously, the visuals are impressive, I'll give them that. And the storyline, well, it's about as exciting as reading the dictionary.
But, let's talk about the humor. Oh, the humor. It's about as funny as a root canal. I mean, I don't want to spoil anything, but if you're looking for some belly laughs, you're in the wrong theater.
Now, some folks might say that the movie is a bit confusing, what with all the different factions and political machinations. But let me tell you, it's not confusing, it's just boring.
All in all, I give "Dune" one thumb up, and only because I don't want to use negative numbers. And if you're a fan of sand, or just in the mood for a nap, you'll love this one!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
"Swing into Action with 'Spider-Man: No Way Home': A Web of Intrigue and Laughter"
Well, folks, I'm here to tell you about the latest Spider-Man movie, "No Way Home." And let me tell you, it's a doozy!
First off, the special effects are top-notch. I mean, I felt like I was actually swinging through the city with Spider-Man. And the storyline, well, it's a web of intrigue that will have you on the edge of your seat.
But, let's talk about the humor. Oh, the humor! It's not your typical superhero flick, folks. It's got some real zingers that'll have you laughing out loud. I mean, I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say that there's a scene involving J. Jonah Jameson that'll have you in stitches.
Now, some folks might say that the movie is a bit confusing, what with all the different versions of Spider-Man and the villains from different universes. But let me tell you, it all comes together in the end in a satisfying way.
All in all, I give "No Way Home" two thumbs up. And if you're a fan of the web-slinger, or just in the mood for a good laugh and some heart-pumping action, you won't want to miss this one!
