Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Monsters can tell a story w/o human dialogue
Godzilla and Kong: A New Empire is exactly what you are going to get. A movie about Kaiju finding their way in the world with the established notion of coexisting with humans on this planet! Here, hollow earth is vastly explored with great visuals and Kong delivers an exceptional performance! The fight sequences are to the point and give great depth to the brutality of the situation on earth. As a kaiju fan I could not ask for anything more than to see monsters go at it and save the planet. Such as any other monster movie people go see. Godzilla is true to form and is his usual reign of terror to other kaiju. The human provide the skeleton of the story but the monsters carry it! I had so much fun with this movie! No need to go with the expectation of cinematic dialogue and epic depth.
Just sit back, relax and watch monsters do their thing!
Late Night with the Devil (2023)
AI didn't deter the advancement of the story
Late night with the devil as a straight forward film that was made to give a new take on horror. While the film had AI images it did not deter the telling of the story. The actors put in the work and the set crew did a phenomenal job at delivering the story. The film itself left a lot to be desired at the end. First two acts were eerie and suspenseful in a playful way that left the audience to wonder what will happen next. The third act however, was under delivered in my humble opinion. While you think one thing might happen it goes completely the opposite direction. The AI used only took up 20 seconds of the story and did not seem like a way to push an agenda.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Amazing film
If you're looking for major explosions and an action packed film, this is NOT it. This is practical effects, amazing dialogue and good view on Oppenheimer and his life and the history of the atom bomb and the moral quagmire on the impact on humanity because of it. Thought provoking and the realization that you can be the smartest man In the room but you have people who want to discredit that. Only reason for not giving it at 10/10 is because the run time. You can feel it towards the end. The run time is worth it however to make sure that you get the entirety of Oppenheimer's life from the start and post WW2.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
A good, sad film, that will make you feel
A man called Otto is a film that really touches the heart and will leave you feeling out of sorts. A film about a man who's life seems meaningless and the end of the road for a man in retirement. Little does Otto know that life has other things in store for him, and that's where the story starts.
A film about how life is not just your usual run of the mill get married, have kids etc. But how to handle life's curve balls and the little impacts of your relationships with neighbors, strangers and friends that makes a huge difference in the world.
A movie that will leave you in tears and realize that life is more than what you've been told.
The Boogeyman (2023)
Good, solid, scary
The boogeyman is what we've all feared as a child growing up. Whether it be in the form of something else depending on culture, this movie brings "being afraid of the dark" to the forefront of our imaginations! Solid scares throughout to a family that has recent trauma of losing the matriarch to make the boogeyman even more powerful to pray on fear. A good story to tell! To those who say this movie wasn't scary, are the ones who will go to bed with the light on tonight!
Story of a family that has to deal with the loss of a mother and to top it off deal with a creature that comes out at night!
