Light of My Life (2019)
A Masterclass of acting that keeps pulling you in
The premise is simple yet effective which allows the film to raise themes that are ever so important in today's society: the place and importance of women, how they are treated and why without them it would be the World's downfall. This is cleverly done through father/daughter conversations that will stick with you way past the end of the movie. In my personal opinion, a movie that stars Casey Affleck is automatically a sign of quality, but I must say that this particular performance is a Masterclass of acting. Anna Pniowsky was a disccovery for me, but her performance was on par with Affeck's, giving the audience an emotional, relatable, and belivable character. Overall, a movie that keeps you thinking, even after you're done watching it, which I would strongly recommend for everyone to see. I hope it will get the awards it deserves!
Last Chance U (2016)
A well executed insight into Junior College Football
"Last Chance U" is a fantastic program in many aspects, but shines the most at a human level. The vast majority of these young men have gone through many hardships in their life, and see EMCC as their golden ticket to a potential future to the NFL. Director Greg Whitely did a fantastic job at capturing the highs and lows, both on and off the field of this band of brothers. You quickly get very invested in the different players as you cheer them on at each touchdown. The show also makes you feel like a disappointed sibling, when some of the players miss class, or fall short from some of their training.
Some might argue that Coach Stephens is the centerpiece to this large and complex puzzle, but in my opinion Brittany Wagner, the school's academic adviser, absolutely steals the show. She is the loving and caring mother figure that many of the players desperately need and pours her heart and soul to make sure all of them keep on track for success.
Another absolute must watch from Netflix, which will keep you engaged from beginning to end.
The Avengers (2012)
Entertainment at its finest
After reading mixed reviews about this film, I decided to give it a try, with both Digital 3D and D-Box as add-ons. Let me say that I was certainly not disappointed! Though the storyline in itself does not bring anything new to the game, I have to say that I have not been this entertained by a movie for a long time. Firstly, the CGI was best in class. The characters, including The Hulk were lifelike and believable. I remember thinking before the movie started "Let's see what a $200 million movie looks like" and the results are more than impressive.
In regards to the 3D, YES there are some darks scenes where there is no real sense of depth, HOWEVER the final scene in NYC alone is worth paying the 3D premium for. Flying through the Manhattan skyline, dodging explosions and twist-and-turning in wrecked cars were some of many scenes that make you feel like you are actually there. This must have been helped by the D-Box chairs, which I would also recommend to make this experience complete.
Finally, the actors all did a great job both in hilarious one-liners as well more emotional sequences. Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves the cinema experience for the thrills, as this title will not fail in keeping you on the edge of your seat!
