Bride of the Monster (1955)
bride of the monster+chiller theatre
seeing this film on DVD sure brings back a lot of childhood memories. i wonder how many people on this board who grew up in new york city recall that wpix-channel 11 seemed to run this, and other low budget horror films like plan 9 from outer space, the indestructible man, frankenstein's daughter etc on chiller theatre in the early sixties very frequently. i especially remember bride of the monster being run and rerun in what seemed like every few weeks so when i saw this film again after forty years it kind of seemed like an old friend. id be curious to hear from anyone out there who watched this and other films on the original chiller theatre circa 1962-1965 and how many other titles you remember
Thriller: Someone at the Top of the Stairs (1973)
great movie
I still remember watching this movie on TV in the mid nineteen seventies in new york. it really scared me as it was usually shown at 1130pm on some weeknight and id view it in bed as it was a schoolnight. i haven't seen this show in over thirty years but still have clear memories of having really been engrossed in it. I wonder why its not available anywhere on DVD, hopefully it will evantually surface some time soon i know it hasn't been shown on TV in years. I thought donna mills and judy carne were both really good in their roles, especially carne who up till then i was only familiar with from love on a rooftop and rowen and martins laugh in.
Naked City: Kill Me While I'm Young So I Can Die Happy! (1962)
kill me while i'm young so I can die happy
a very touching episode dealing with mortality and loneliness. Maureen Stapleton plays a woman who's terminally ill and attempts suicide. while investigating this case dpt. Accra ( harry bell aver} develops an emotional attachment to her while dealing with his aged Italian mother who bemoans his being middle aged and single. the performances were both touching and amusing and just another illustration of the great writing that made naked city such a fine show. Seeing this show on DVD after more then forty years took me magically back to my childhood in the nineteen sixties when my parents TV set was always tuned to ABC-TV on Wednesday nights at ten pm
The Last Man on Earth (1964)
last man on earth
I remember first seeing this movie on ABC-TV channel 7 in the fall of 1968 and it scared the hell out of me. it was on at 1am my parents were asleep and the effect was just chilling. although obviously made on a shoestring budget it has great atmosphere and Vincent price always one of my favorite actors is first rate. Seeing this movie again recently definitely took me back to that night 37 years ago when it first terrified me In many ways I Actually found it superior to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD which I saw sometime later. A great film to watch when you're alone in a darkened room. ID love to see some information on the making of this film
