True Grit (2010)
To all those who hated this, take a second look...
I will admit, the first time i saw this movie on opening day I actually hated it for some reason(I really don't remember). But after seeing the trailer again and realizing that i actually fell asleep the first time and possibly missed the good parts, I decided to take a second look. My opinion had majorly changed. the plot is all about a young girl wanting to avenge her father, hires a marshal and a Texas ranger to aid her on her quest.
PROS:
-the performances are excellent for the genre and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld was fantastic and hopefully will get an award for her performance -the dialogue was witty and will well written and kept my attention -a treat for some horror fans, Jarlath Conroy makes a brief cameo which was fun -the soundtrack is very good and keeps the western on life support
-the action pretty suspenseful and keeps the movie going
CONS: - the movie takes way too long to get to the point and it just drags to the good stuff
Overall, the movie is a good thrill ride and brings us back to a time when westerns were fun,but it can get boring at times. be sure to take a caffeine pill or a can of monster before you go. I give this movie a 9. Thanks for reading. have a good day.:)
Rear Window (1954)
Be careful looking out the window...
Rear Window is a real gem and worth every second of your time it takes. It's one of those films that starts very slow and builds up to a thrilling climax. This has been my favorite film for a while now, probably because of the chemistry of actors James Stewart and Grace Kelly bringing outstanding performances to this banquet of a table.
Let's discuss the plot, L.B Jeffries(James Stewart) is a photographer having to rest in his two room apartment. His girlfriend Lisa Fremont a fashion designer(Grace Kelly) and Stella, a company nurse(Thelma Ritter) takes care of him while his leg is broken. One day, sitting and looking out the window he begins to see things he shouldn't see. One man across the way named Lars Thorwald(Raymond Burr) is caught by Jeff leaving his apartment 3 times and coming home 3 times. He asks Lisa what it means. She tells him that his wife must be welcoming him home. This causes a minor dispute between the couple. Then one day she realizes what could be happening. Together, The two set aside their differences and try to solve this puzzle. In the mix, is an old acquaintance of Jeff named Doyle(Wendell Corey) who doesn't believe Jeff. As the tension builds the murder is slowly solved with ease (The work of movie suspense pioneer Alfred Hitchcock (A true genius).). Thorwald in fact killed his wife and a dog living next door who was digging in the area where he buried a clue to the murder (we don't find out what it is). Thorwald finds out someone was on to him which leads to a battle for survival between Jeff and Thorwald. Jeff survives and Thorwald is sent to prison for the murder of his wife. And everyone else lives happily ever after (i guess?).
To wrap this up, Rear Window is a very intriguing powerhouse of suspense with spectacular cinematography by Robert Burks, great plot twists and development, superb acting and over all a cinematic gem that should be seen by those looking for suspense and mystery. P.S this is quite family friendly movie. So,sit back and relax and enjoy Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window. 10/10 stars. Two thumbs up. whatever will please you. Highly recommended. Check it out.
On a Quick Note did any see the flash of light coming from up on the higher levels of Thorwald's building in the opening scene please respond on the message board or something. This has bugged me for some time. Thanks for looking and responding if you did. I'm off.
Halo 3 (2007)
The best game ever made...
I first played this game back in 2007 months after it was released.I played mesmerized. The graphics are as realistic as Avatar but this made 2 years before Avatar! The online multi-player is addicting. I played online everyday all day which i have never done before. The story is solid, straight-forward and to the point. The best thing this game has to offer is the Forge mode. The selection of item to put on maps is amazing. The amount of arenas is a good amount. The final thing to discuss is theater mode.If you are into making machinima, this is the definitive console game. It does not get any better than this the controls are the best thing on the market now(I mean that the theater mode control scheme is amazing.)The only thing this game lacks is the length it need to be way longer.
Overall, Halo 3 has tons of replay value. Multi-player(in general) 10/10 story 9/10 Forge 10/10 Theater 10/10 My over all rating 9.9/10. Buy it. It's worth the money.
Braveheart (1995)
Simply epic...
How many times have you said that about a movie? This film takes the biography plot to the next level. While a little slow at times, the rest of the movie doesn't fail to disappoint with a Best Picture win in the Oscars,a great Hollywood director and actor, good strong plot and brutal warfare. This movie rocks.
This story takes place during the French war.Our hero of the story is William Wallace. A man who is fed up with the way his people are treated.Rape,Murder,Torture and Savage Englishmen plague Scotland where the film takes place. Through many battles, our hero stumbles upon Princess Isabella The princess of Wales who feeds information to Wallace and his men(surprisingly the English don't figure out whats going on).Overtime, Wallace is captured and is killed by the English.
Mel Gibson went right for the hot spot with all aspects of the film. If you have some time and cant think of a movie to watch(Note:The movie received an R rating for good reason. Its is very graphic and has some sexual themes to it and it should not be viewed by a young child's eyes)I say give it a watch, and i hope you enjoy as much as I did.
Great film, one of the best. 10/10 stars. Check it out
