Into the Wild (2007)
Emile Hirsch At Its Best
I haven't heard much before of this film. I read somewhere that a boy wants to get out of the civilization to find the adventure he has ever wanted to discover. A trip across the USA. Meeting people, get experiences and something like that. In the end, returning home and hugging the whole family. I was wrong.
After I had left the cinema I was real dizzied. I've never seen such a good movie in my whole life. After an hour in the film I began to nervously wait for the big suspense. My waiting was finished. I even compared the film with holidays after an hour because of its great landscape pictures. But no, I was wrong again.
Chris has ever dreamed of getting into the wild. Out of all problems, careers, money and his parents. His sister always supported him. Also as he was miles away. She never really knew where he was and what he did, but she knew him. And she could conceive what he was going to do.
His sister's voice and the great music is a huge part of the film. The voice fits perfectly into it in the German version. She describes her feelings to his brother very philosophically. Every phrase of her is full of truth, sadness but also gratefulness.
Later I was fascinated of the environment, of 'Alex' and his stories on the way to Alaska. 148 minutes and none of it was boring or worthless. The film captures you. You stare to the screen and feels with Chris in every second. I was impressed.
Sean Penn created a masterpiece. It's another proof that actors also can be great directors like Ben Affleck in 'Gone Baby Gone'. Emile Hirsch as Chris did an absolutely great job. He didn't need a stuntman or a double. He was hundred percent Christopher McCandless. It was fun to see him. As I was out of the theater I recognized: Now I need holidays!
This film required a lot. I really had a lump in my throat and was minutes after the end frozen sitting on my seat. It got me thinking. About the society [:-)] and our everyday's life. It changed me a little. We all could have learned a lot from Chris.
Egoshooter (2004)
Documentation of a Boring Life
I've just seen the film Egoshooter with Tom Schilling in the leading role. In Germany Tom Schilling got famous in the film Crazy, an autobiography of a handicapped teenager who goes to a boarding school. After that he had many roles in teenage movies and TV shows. But he has never played a real big part although he's a brilliant and authentic actor. The story line of Egoshooter is told fast: Jacob, a 19 year old boy, films himself and documents everything: taking the train, drinking and smoking, having sex, taking a shower, burgling,... It's a video dairy of a boy who doesn't seem to have perspective in his life. As his life, so the film. In circa 70 minutes Egoshooter gives an insight to Jakob's life that led me dose off. I was really thankful that I hadn't to see more of it. I think I wouldn't came through it. Summarizing it's an absolutely boring film with an actor who is the best in his age.
Memento (2000)
Notes but in fact you don't know anything
Poor guy, first he killed a man, and then he doesn't know it any more. When you see the film you have to think and think, to really understand, and you have to connect the single parts. This is going on there but where is it? And there is a new person but where did she came from? Just wait for the next scene. That's the trick of the film.
And there are the scenes in black and white. First they didn't make sense for me but in the end I noticed that they tell the case history in the correct order.
But I was really confused in the end. For me it doesn't fit anywhere. OK, I have to confess: wikipedia is also a good help.
I really have to say: It's a brilliant and intelligent film but I think that seeing again wouldn't be a mistake.
After the film you sit there and see the final credits but in your mind you are thinking about the film and what happened... happened before, happened after and happened right in the middle.
I really like such films because after them you have to think about them a lot. They're not that easy so you have to listen and see attentively. Memento is only one of a couple of very good films by Christopher Nolan, though I didn't like 'Batman Begins'. So let's look at 'The Dark Knight'. Maybe this Batman film can convince me.
Siska: Alibi für Tommi (2007)
Once and no more again...just boring
In fact I'm not a ZDF viewer and German criminal series haven't been interesting me much. But as I read that on Friday there's a episode with Tobias Schenke (played "Tommi") I dared to watch it. The story was told fast and the team "Siska" had a case again. I had to notice that Tobias Schenke can play much better. I've seen him in other films before and in this episode he didn't show what he can. At the end I wished that the film was over. Then, at the end of the episode I was surprised that the murderer was somebody I didn't thought. He just went to the police and told them the story...and that he was it. Ohh wow, how boooring. The action was stretched and then, somebody came and said "I've done it". No, thanks, not again.
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
Brilliant film for a long time
First I read the book in August 2006, one month before the film starts in the German cinemas. The book really enthralled me...the story, the diction, the action and many more. I commend everybody first read the novel and then watch the film. Then in October I watch the film with my brother. It was the best film i've watch for a long time. Sometimes I was a little bit frightened of some scenes. I wondered if it was good for twelve-year-old kids. Many passages were implemented very well. Some scenes were changed a little bit, but that was okay. The film team did a good job and it is really worth to watch this film...also a second time:-)
