Father of the Bride (2022)
Falls short
Father of the Bride with Andy Garcia falls short for those nostalgic for the original's charm. Garcia's standout performance can't salvage the film's heavy emphasis on modern themes, diluting its appeal because we have already seen the original theme. The departure from the timeless essence of its predecessor earns it a 4/10. The film's inability to capture the magic of the classic leaves it in the realm of disappointment, making it difficult for viewers to overlook its perceived shortcomings.
Overall, a lackluster attempt that may not resonate well, especially for those hoping for a more faithful and enjoyable adaptation.
Malibu Crush (2022)
OK. If you like this sort of thing....
It's OK if you like the kind of superficial dumb comedy displayed here.
On the whole, the film made me smile, but never had me rolling in the aisles. It's very low budget, which in itself isn't endearing to the audience in anyway, You can see it really needed a bigger budget in some scenes. On the other hand it's impressive what Pratt and company did to made something watchable on so little.
Most of the enjoyment comes from the main characters goofs and dress style, they seem to have zero awareness of the other characters in the film which makes some of the comedy funny.
I won't say Malibu Crush is a bad movie, but it just isn't that great. The actors give solid performances, but in some scenes it's predictable and we see little change in the tone of jokes.
The hot chick formula is a good storyline and well cast in the film and is suited more toward the male audience.
