Jailhouse Rock (1957)
the best film!!
This is not only the best ever Elvis film but is one of my favourite films in the entire world! Elvis is brilliant-looking and his acting is fabulous! The songs are spectacular and the plot is magnificent. The dance sequence is revolutionary and it is remarkable that it was Elvis himself who choreographed it thus showing his truly wonderful talent. I thought that the chemistry between Elvis and Judy Tyler was definitely there and you could tell that they enjoyed being in each other's company. This makes it all the more tragic that she was to die just days after shooting the film was complete and a shocking car accident I believe on the way back from her honeymoon. She was clearly on her way to being one of the most awe-inspiring actresses and a person whom Elvis clearly had a liking to. He apparently was so saddened by her death that he never watched the film again. I would recommend this film to anybody and everybody regardless whether they are Elvis fans (like myself!) or not. Elvis clearly enjoys making this film and it is a real opportunity to see what a terrific actor he would have become with good future productions. A brilliant film- watch it!
Clambake (1967)
a light-hearted Elvis 60s classic
Although this film is not brilliant and nothing compared to the ingenuity that was "Jailhouse Rock" I enjoyed this film immensely and it is, as many Elvis films are, simple light-hearted fun. I would much rather watch Elvis in this than in the embarrassment of "Live a Little, Love A Little" where even the most devoted Elvis fan finds it hard to watch the icon suffer in such an embarrassing predicament. This film however is fun to watch and I did enjoy it although if you're looking for Elvis at his best or a serious film then this isn't the one for you. The plot, although predictable, was amusing and despite numerous goofs such as the scenery Elvis certainly had an on-screen presence and it was hard to keep my eyes off him!
