Bridget Jones's Diary (2001)
Simple, but enjoyable
While the basic plot to Bridget Jones's Diary is a simple one, it is well delivered and makes for a highly enjoyable film. Renee Zellweger is excellent as the unmarried thirty-something who falls for two completely different men. Though he is ultimately the "bad guy" of the film, Hugh Grant as Bridget's charmingly pompous boss is one of the movie's highlights. Colin Firth plays Mark, the sweet and sophisticated lawyer. It's is expected that he ends up with Bridget, but the two have little chemistry and the end of the movie leaves something to be desired. This is it's main shortcoming; the thing that I liked the best about it were all of the side stories with smaller characters, namely her group of friends. It is slightly plotless, but definitely a movie worth looking into.
Spy Groove (2000)
One Groovy Show
This was a hilarious TV show that wasn't on for long enough... Think James Bond gone MTV, and you'll have this show in a nutshell. It's more or less your average spy show (spiffy spies saving the world, an evil arch-nemesis, cool gadgets, scantily clad women--evil and otherwise), but not one that takes itself very seriously. Along with Daria, it's one of the better shows to come from MTV, and it's a pity that it was only on air for such a short time. If you ever get an opportunity to watch it, though, I certainly recommend it.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
One of the more creative shows on television
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is a great show that follows in the footsteps of the 1992 movie. It's easy to lose yourself in the world that Joss Whedon has so flawlessly created. The characters are so believable that it is eerie. The plot is complex, yet at the same time easy to follow. The dialogue is beautiful, and the interaction between the characters is probably better than the actual plot. Aside from Buffy herself, none of the characters is particularly more important than the other; they all play significant parts, and there is hardly any material that is just filler. I began watching the show when it first aired back in '97, and even though I was only nine I was captivated by the storyline and characters. From Spike to Willow, "School Hard" to "The Puppet Show", it was unlike anything I had ever seen. I am just now catching up on the later episodes, and I am pleased that the quality of the show hasn't faltered.
