I don't know how the team that made the movie managed to land Morgan Freeman on their lap. Whoever made that happen is the only genius on the team.

Everything else is absolutely dumb and/or low quality about this movie.

The main characters make the dumbest decisions possible. Their reasoning makes no sense.

From the cinematography perspective, it's just awful. Most outdoor scenes are way too contrasty with blown shadows. It's like they hired a team of first year art school students and put them in charge of lighting and the camera.

Audio is awful too. Many indoor scenes echo like crazy.

Zero attention to details.

Do not recommend.

This could have been amazing, could have been really memorable, but it just isn't. These TV series have done so many things right - good cast, good acting, great cinematography, great music, great storytelling, decent dialogues.

The plot ruins everything. It's just so incredibly simple and straightforward, it pains me. There's no mystery, no plot twist, it's like riding on a train through a desert. You can predict how all of it is going to end from like episode 2 or 3.

I expected so much more, considering how high rated these series are. They could have gone in so many different and interesting ways, but for some reason they chose the story that has been told a billion times. Experiments in a lab open a portal through which monsters come out is so 1980. Oh wait, was that your grand plan? Booooring.

It was absolutely painful to watch the pilot. It's filmed so badly, they never actually show anything. All the scenes are framed so narrowly, you can't tell what's going on around. Even when they show the huge crowd from the above, you can't see what's actually going on. It's just a crowd with a bunch of people running back and forth. No explosions, no collapsed buildings, no fire.

The explanation is quite simple - the production is so cheap, the most they could afford is to make the actors look afraid, but never show what they are afraid of.

Yeah, there was a small CGI scene at the very end of the pilot, must have lasted less than 20 seconds. Cheap thrills, not impressive.

The actors were not impressive either. I can't say that I really liked any of them, which in itself tells me a lot. I don't remember the last TV show where I didn't like at least one actor.

I rarely stop watching movies in the middle, but couldn't watch this for more than 20 minutes. It's absolutely awful.

Horrible acting. The main actress is not particularly likable. Most supporting actors are even worse.

Horrible dialog lines trying to shoehorn explanations of what's going on. Unfortunately can't judge the script, since I couldn't finish watching this.

Ridiculously bad production. Random s**t covering scenes as the camera moves. Color balance jumping from bright blue to bright yellow between the scenes. Sound quality in outdoor scenes is garbage.

Do not recommend.

This is a high budget cheesy piece of garbage with boring dialogue, predictable plot and one-dimensional characters that nobody cares for.

At first it reminded me of A.I. Artificial Intelligence (which is a brilliant movie), but then as movie went by, I got more and more disappointed. You see, AI was smart, it had a very interesting plot, it had scale, it had interesting characters, interesting dialogue and good humor, it was real good sci-fi. Real Steel has none of that, it's just a bunch of special effects and a few actors who don't give a sh*t about their roles.

The worst part is predictability. I could see where movie was going an hour in advance, and that made it just so damn boring.

Don't let other reviews fool you, this movie is complete and utter garbage. The revenge story that you've seen a thousand times, there's zero imagination. Production is just hideous. Visually, most of the scenes are yellow, the shadow detail is gone - their post production team must be fired. The lighting is very bad too, I doubt they had a single lighting professional. Audio is extremely uneven, music is usually way too loud compared to the voices. The dialogue is simplistic and boring.

Acting is mostly bad. Van Damme's emotionless character is so dull, it's ridiculous, he's not even trying.

Do not waste your time on it.

The plot and the script are stupid. I'm not exaggerating, they are completely dumb. I haven't read the original comic book, but there's simply no excuse to have something so mind numbing, so predictable, so simplistic, so cliché. Was this made for young kids? I was so bored, I couldn't believe what I was watching.

If this is a sci-fi movie, they definitely cut all the science parts out. "Green energy of will", "yellow energy of fear" - who came up with this bulls**t, a five year old?

And of course, all the good characters must be beautiful, and all the bad characters must be ugly with crappy voices, or otherwise viewers like us would never figure it out. So disrespectful.

Clearly this is not a low budget movie, the special effects are pretty good. The premise is good too. However the movie fails at everything else, and the main thing that bring is down is the complete lack of logic. Most of the movie goes like this:

1) Monster is moving slowly or not moving at all 2) People are just staring at it or running away, even those who know that the guns work really well against monsters. Nobody is trying to shoot it. 3) Monster hurts one of the main characters 4) There's a long an boring cut scene with the cheesiest dialogue you can imagine. Meanwhile the monster is taking a break, not doing anything 5) One of the main character shoots the monster, having no problems 6) Repeat

There are a few characters (guy in glasses) that do absolutely nothing the whole movie. Seriously, nothing, zero. They just hang out, don't participate in fights, don't help anybody, don't say anything interesting.

So other than the main idea, the script is absolutely rubbish. It's like it was written by a ten year old who saw the original manga series.

With just a bit of effort this movie could've been one of the coolest sci-fi movies in a long time, but it was completely ruined by bad script, horrible dialogue, mediocre acting.

This is too bad, good sci-fi movies are pretty rare.

What a disappointing movie. It's currently rated at 7.5, I think it honestly deserves maybe three, if you're feeling generous.

This movie is like Gilmore Girls in a lame war setting. Heck, Gilmore Girls had better actors.

There's nothing good about this movie. Lame special effects. Predictable plot a twelve year old could write. A tacky voice-over narration. The most boring dialog I can remember. Acting is pretty much non-existent, on the level of cheap TV series. Chris Pang is the only one who I could watch without cringing.

This should've been TV series, not an actual movie.
