Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh (2008)
Not what you'd expect from Drake & Josh.
I'll be honest, I was pretty surprised and excited when I saw they were making a "Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh". We never really experienced a series finale, so they sort of ended the show in an odd way.
To get the point, I'm not impressed. It just, it wasn't Drake & Josh! The directing and script just didn't have the same feel as the series. I wouldn't blame the mostly bad acting as much as I would blame the script. The story was just terrible to say the least.
There was no Drake & Josh comedy that we were used to, unless you are 7 years old. I have friends that are 18+ and they got a kick out of the series, but it seemed they were aiming this to very little kids, yet at the same time throwing in bits and pieces that would make no sense to children.
I don't want to give away any spoilers by fully explaining some of the characters, but I will say a majority of the actors were horrible actors. I know a lot of people will say, "But they were just kids", well so was Miranda and she was a fantastic actress.
I don't know, maybe I'm a hater and I expect nothing but thumbs down, but I'm a long time Drake & Josh fan. I watched it from the start and never stopped, but "Merry Christmas, Drake and Josh" completely disappointed me.
Eagle Eye (2008)
A 6/10 in my books, with that all important plot twist.
Going in to see the movie, I didn't quite know what to expect. My main reasons going to see the movie were because Shia, and Billy Bob Thornton was in it.
Shia's character, Jerry Shaw, was played fairly well. There were a few times I wasn't completely convinced, but overall he did a wonderful job. He doesn't play that slacker, half job kid too much in this film. His character shows a large amount of responsibility, and it was a refreshing new character for Shia, and shows that he has the capabilities to carry future films.
Billy Bob Thornton's character, could've been better. He was probably my least favorite. He had the possibility to be an amazing character, but Billy Bob Thornton just didn't do it for me. He was lacking certain aspects of emotions, that I would have expected from the character he's supposed to play.
Michelle Monaghan acted very well in this film. It was my first time seeing her in anything, but she definitely sold me on her performance. She's probably my second favorite character from that movie. Bravo.
Overall, it's was a fairly decent movie. Not quite what I expected, and it had some cliché's you see in all movies, but it wasn't bad. I would say it goes in my top 25 movies, because it gave me the impression the Bourne series gave me. It's a good action film, but it needs depth. I wouldn't call it my favorite movie, based on the impression I wouldn't go back to the theater to see it. I will definitely buy it when it comes out, though.
I would recommend this movie to anyone that likes a thrilling, suspenseful, and action movie.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)
A pleasant delight of fantasy and Biblical principles.
For starters, the cast was excellent, and the directer captured the emotions and excitement the book provided. As a fan of The Chronicles of Narnia, as well a C.S. Lewis in general, I was weary of how the movies would turn out. Because reading a book is one thing, however watching a movie is another. As we all know C.S. Lewis was a devote Christian and he had a way of mixing fantasy, with the gospel of Christ. Throughout all his the books, he intertwined Biblical messages in them.
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe reflects the captivity of this present world under Satan, but its past and future deliverance through Jesus Christ. In the form of a lion, Aslan, Lewis brings a savior to Narnia who eventually releases the land from its winter grip and vanquishes the White Witch.
From what I can tell, Prince Caspian reflects the the captivity of this present world under Satan, as well as the second coming of Christ and the acknowledgment of Christ being Lord.
I was afraid the movies wouldn't capture the book's messages, I was pleased to see they did, very well. So overall, I give it a 9/10 and recommend it to everyone. It was an wonderful movie.
