Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Potential wasted
I'll cut to the chase. I was looking forward to seeing Benedict Cumberbatch unfold his many talents in this film where the theme is multiverse.
I imagined him playing different characters. I think the animation Into the Spider-Verse did it so well.
I was simply hoping for too much.
The film had a ridiculous plot line that wasn't explained enough and that wasn't engaging enough. I didn't feel invested in any of the characters. And the characters that appear briefly seemed more like a joke. We all knew their fate before it happened - it was that predictable.(spoiler alert) And they also managed to make a disappointing mess out of those special appearances. The movie was a real disappointment. I gave the movie 2 stars. 1 for Cumberbatch and one for his amazing cape.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
No spoilers-honest-Onhyped-review
I was a fan of the comics and even the cartoons growing up. My favorite Spider-Man movies are: Spider-Man by Sam Raimi, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Here's another Spider-Man movie featuring Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his useless friends battling some absolutely dumb immature narcissistic villains. (Seriously they aren't that smart) The entire film is very childish and the acting was mediocre at best. Some of the action scenes featured the same cliche locations such as a bridge full of cars, the Statue of Liberty and - a scaffolding fight scene (wonder where I've just seen that oh yeah Shan-Chi) And Benedict Cumberbatch... looked like he had the time of his life. No, he didn't. He looked bored out of his mind. There were some interesting fun nostalgic moments - but even those could have been done so much better. I was laughing occasionally, and the fans' reactions and cheering in the cinema still made everything worth while. Overall the movie offered - mediocre story, boring acting with some obvious CGI work. It'll be the last film I'll see in a while before another lockdown in our country. C'eat la vie.
Kuro-obi (2007)
It's a matter of taste and mood.
If you like a decent story line with realistic fight scenes like in Twilight Samurai, The Hidden Blade and Love and Honour you might like this movie as well.
But if you like lots of wire work and long fighting scenes with lots of unrealistic moves then watch your typical mainstream HK movies such as Legend of the Fist, Once Upon a Time in China and Iron Monkey.
Simple.
Just because it's a martial arts films doesn't mean we have to throw them all into one category. They are completely different types of movies. It all depends what you prefer or what you're in the mood of.
Personally, I wish they made more movies like this.
