Dream Scenario (2023)
Started off interesting, but...
I originally wanted to see this in the theater as I was excited about a new Nicholas Cage movie and I really miss going to the movies, but as luck would have it, it wasn't playing anywhere near me. (What's up with that?!?) Finally caught it last night and while it wasn't bad, I'm glad I didn't pay to see it. It started off interesting enough. Some parts were funny, some parts were quirky, and to me, it was an intriguing concept. Dreams are so weird, aren't they? But, after about halfway, I didn't like the change in direction of the story. Without spoiling anything, I will say I understand the point, which others have covered, the effects of unwanted/negative fame, but like someone else said, I wanted to know why/how it happened.
The Underdoggs (2024)
Horrible and Stupid
Yes, I know the movie is rated R and not for children. Yes, I know it's Snoop so... but sorry, this movie was garbage. Even though it's not for children, it has children in it who have horrible potty mouths. I wanted to like it, but I could not get passed the cussing and general ghetto-ness of the movie. I am not naive to think boys that age don't cuss - I have two sons myself - but the entire movie is just gross with profanity. I have never known any 13 year old kids that act like that - at least not in front of adults. And what kind of adults act like that in front of the kids? Even the mom was like that. Sorry, not in my world. I'll even add that shame on their parents for allowing them to be in this movie. We turned it off about half way.
Stillwater (2021)
Chock full of stereotypes
I was able to sit through it so that's worth some stars, but man-oh-man was it chock full of stereotypes! It had everything from the moped driving French gang members (which was hilarious) to the cigarette smoking French people and the grandma hooked up to oxygen in her trailer to Matt Damon's paid shirts and Wranglers! And why were Abigail Breslin's teeth so rotten? I'm pretty sure they have dental care in Oklahoma! And we're supposed to believe that someone like that left their trailer to go to school in France? I'm not sure what else to say about this movie, but I have 22 required characters left. Thank you.
To Brave Alaska (1996)
Predictable and cheesy, but I liked it anyway
I know I'm decades late in seeing this movie, but I just saw it last night (2024-01-25) as I was bored and saw it in my streaming recommendations. I figured it would be predictable and cheesy, so if you go into it expecting that, it's a pretty good movie. I'd say it's comparable to a Lifetime movie, so if you like those, you may like this one. Spoiler coming so stop now if you don't want to see it...
**Spoiler: I read more about the story since it was based on a true story. If you've seen it (and because it's obvious), you know they all get rescued, including the dog. This is awful, but I read that in real life, Denise talked her boyfriend into killing the dog the day before they were rescued!! Apparently, he couldn't do it, so she was the one who stabbed the dog (because he didn't want to waste bullets) and she skinned the dog and ate it! Some vegetarian, right?
From (2022)
Time to Bow Out
As a huge Lost fan, I was excited to see something from Jack Bender and Harold Perrineau. From started out really good, but as we watched, it got a little bit more cheesy each time. We made it almost to the end of season 1 and called it quits.
I thought Harold's acting was great, but so many of the "others" (get it?) were not and even unlikeable. The story had great promise, but it didn't seem to move along fast enough. I do not want to commit to a long and drawn out series going nowhere. Maybe if it was on a more known streaming service like Netflix or Hulu, but I am not interested in paying for another membership.
I am interested to see what happens, but I may search for spoilers so I don't have to waste more time watching it.
