Ritual Yawner

I was asked to explain the ending before I saw this trash film...Bad pacing, line delivery and very suspect acting by several characters.....The budget was not spend on improvements to the script. This had to go direct to streaming its so bad.

Morgan Freeman is the big name here and I have to imagine this was nothing more than a "paycheck" role for him as well as some favores were called in as well.

There is a supernatural type element in this but its so hard to follow because some motivations made no sense.

Avoid. In fact the first 15- 20 min there is minimal dialogue...no VO to at least guide you to whats happening.

Thunder Farce...Another Netflix Financial Flunk
13 April 2021
This is "Tammy" in a superhero premise. This proves Netflix has $ to burn for this to be greenlit. Long Character Improv that couldnt have been scripted....and stretching of "jokes" that fall waaaaaay flat.

Melissa= same character in almost everyone of her films because....well Message to Ben Falcone. Please Stop. There is no cure for nepotism.

A Pleasant Suprise (by mistake)
27 March 2021
I was doing a search for the Pete Holmes "Crashing" series after listing to the Comedy Store podcast during Covid Shutdown as it came up frequently in discussion.

2 minutes in the accents threw me because I thought his show took place in NYC...so...literally hung in there to see what this was and was happy I stuck it out! What quirky characters all aound....some are a bit over the top (as the brits would say), but a well written romantic comedy I knew nothing about going in. I would later connecting the dots to the writer/creator who also did Fleabag/Killing Eve, she's fantastic as Lulu here.

Suprised there is no 2nd season and this was a stand alone.

I do recommend this show (Netflix) and you might want to flip on the subtitles to grasp some of the British slang as there were some terms/meanings I had to look up.

Message Driven Film
2 December 2020
Very stiff acting, line delivery and the editing could've been much better. A lot of extended character exposition to drive home points and stature. The POV was the overall focus from both the good guys and bad guys to create discussion. a few bright spots but not feature film quality and definitely made for streaming.

A bloated CGI mess. A myriad of accents...overacting and hubris....Budget was better spent on a real script .....avoid.

Boy this really looks like it comes from the School of Michael Bay...oh wait....
13 July 2020
Insane opening action sequences and boy it looks good with a lot of slick editing. Another popcorn action flick nothing more than that. Ryan being Ryan with peppered one-liners and some forced cringy dialogue. No sense in breakdown the rest of film...Good guys 1 Bad guys 0.

Sushi Girl (2012)

A Self Quarantine Random find
17 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Going through my Amazon stick I stumbled across this movie solely based on the name and seeing that it was going to be a crime thriller (of sorts)

Decent cast of seasoned name actors ( some who appeared as favors to the production and the "blink and you'll miss them' screen time)

**SPOILERS**

If it wasn't for the "pacing"+ waaay too much villain exposition leading up to the big reveal at the end I would have enjoyed this homage to "Reservoir Dogs" more But everybody getting their "torture time" with the character Fish by way of an egg timer?🙄 gratuitous at best.

Also it wasn't clear to me that Sushi Girl found all the loose diamonds in the asphalt next to her dead husband, because there's no way she would've had time to pick up every single rock in between the glass when the cops are literally in earshot.

Again stellar cast but ...meh

A Rock N Roll film that gets it RIGHT!
17 November 2005
This was shown during the AFI Festival held in Santa Monica, CA.

Unlike 1988' The Decline II: "The Metal Years" disaster while a big deal at the time, it still remains a brutal "cringe-fest" from start to finish and focused on predominately one style (Glam)one era (The 80s) one location(Sunset Strip) and barely covers the period of Heavy Metal that is STILL alive and well: thrash, black, speed, etc

I would have never guessed that a film about Heavy Metal would take serious the attitudes, styles, individuals, genres and provide a clear history time-line unlike Decline and any others of that ilk.

Don't know when this will come out officially, but hopefully a distributor out there will take notice, even if its headed for the midnight movie circuit.

FEATURED INTERVIEWS: Dio *Iron Maiden * Girlschool * Twisted Sister * Motorhead * Slayer * Rob Zombie* Tony Iommi * Slipknot and more.

Rocky Road (2001)

A"by the book"interracial romance..tame on the romance...
17 April 2002
A friend of mine who works at one of the theatres this film was playing at invited me to tag along just on her recommendation.

Bad move. Next time I'll do some research on what i'm about to see. The previous review on "Rocky Road" pretty much hit it on the nail review wise: ZERO chemistry between the two romantic leads, stiff characters and very predictable dialogue.

one observation during the whole movie the antagonistic sister Tina is so against John and Talia being together she offers nothing more towards the end other than: "I dont know". Wow. informative...Lets see why she's so militant: Malcolm X books, Anglea Davis pictures on her wall, dumped in her own interracial relationship....SOMETHING!!

Even the racist dad is very lackluster from the opening sequence to a potential scene down the line that director Cunningham used the wrong angles for and could have been set up a hell of a lot better. There were MAYBE 4 laughs in the whole film and thats being generous! I think one for each person in the theatre with me and now I know why.

Dont waste your time or money on "Rocky Road" whatever format it comes out on once it mercifully dissapears from the indy circuit.

You cant get back the 90min wasted watching this film.
