The Crush (2010)
The boy's strong affection
"The Crush" is a short comedy about a male elementary school student named Ardal. This movie dates from 2010. He has a crush on his teacher named Purdy and gives her a ring he prepared. However, one day, he encounters her with her fiancé in the town and gets jealous of him.
I can feel the boy's strong affection toward his teacher from his actions such as giving her a ring and telling her his love. He even tells her fiancé not to marry her and challenges him to a duel. I think this action is difficult to understand because we cannot imagine that just a small boy takes such an action. Because of this, I also think that his affection toward her is a little too strong.
Ardal actually meets and hunts him down, pointing a gun at him. This is completely incomprehensible and unrealistic. Because it seems that he really tries to kill him, I feel very tense while watching this scene.
In conclusion, this film is a little strange love story with some scenes which are difficult to understand. I think that those who want to watch unusual movies can enjoy watching this.
Love at First Sight (2010)
Good Love Story
"Love at First Sight" is a short comedy about an old man named Arthur. This movie dates from 2010. One day, he falls in love with an old woman named Ruth at first sight. Then, they go on a date and he proposes to her on that day.
While chatting, dancing, and walking, they enjoy their date and it is lovely. In addition, I can feel his strong affection toward her in the scene when he first speaks to and proposes to her from his sincere eyes and words. These scenes are very romantic. Even when she talks about her husband, Arthur doesn't get jealous of him at all. On the contrary, Arthur says that he is a nice husband. From this scene, we can also understand that he is gentle and likes her very much.
At the start of the film, there is a scene when Arthur asks his friends about first love and they become confused by it. This is impressive because I know the real meaning of their reaction after watching the whole movie.
In conclusion, this is a good film which makes us feel romantic and I think many people can enjoy watching it.
Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times (2017)
Unique Order
"Two Strangers Who Meet Five Times" is a short movie about two men who meet five times in their life. One of them is named Samir and the other is named Alistair. The story begins with the scene when they meet at a cash point in the street. When Samir is about to leave, looking at his appearance Alistar says some insulting words to him and it makes him disgusted.
Although all of their five encounters are depicted in the film, it is not in chronological order. In fact, although the story begins with the encounter I describe above, it is their second meeting. Then, the third and fourth ones are depicted in a row, and after that, the first and fifth one. I think this plays a key role in the film because by doing so, viewers can understand and feel the point of the movie more deeply. I also think that this film makes good use of contrast like another short "The Lunch Date," because the position of two men clearly changes in accordance with the scene of each encounter.
In conclusion, this is a good film which uses some effective techniques that attract viewers. I think that many people can enjoy watching this.
The Lunch Date (1989)
Good Contrast
"The Lunch Date" is a short comedy about a woman. The film dates from 1989. One day, a woman misses her train and goes to a cafeteria to have lunch. At that cafeteria, she orders salad and leaves the table to take a fork. Then, when she goes back to the table, a black man is sitting there and having her salad.
While she is angry with him and shows her disgust, he doesn't care about it at all. Even though she claims that the salad is hers and begins to eat it, he doesn't say anything and just laughs. This contrast is impressive and interesting. However, I think that she should be calmer and tell that situation to the manager to solve it. If she does so, she doesn't need to accuse him and can reveal the truth.
While the woman and the black man are mainly depicted in the film, the manager is also depicted at times. By doing so, it can emphasize the emotional changes more.
In conclusion, this is a good film which makes the most of contrast. I recommend that many people watch this and enjoy it.
Otousan no tabako (2007)
Family Bond
"The Errand" is a short Japanese movie about a family from 2007. One day, a small female elementary school student buys some cigarettes from the vending machine on her way home at the request of her father who has a serious disease but likes smoking. However, after she comes home, she is scolded by her mother for doing that.
While watching this film, I can feel the girl's strong affection for her father because she tries to get some cigarettes for him in one way or another after the cigarettes she has bought are taken away by her mother. To do that, she even asks a female high school student whom she doesn't know to give her some cigarettes in the park. However, I cannot understand why her father wants to smoke despite being in a serious state health-wise. I think almost all of the people will avoid smoking when they are in such a state.
In conclusion, although there are some strange parts like the one I just mentioned, I think this is a good film which reminds us of the family bond. Because of this, I recommend that many people from other countries also watch this film.
Father and Daughter (2000)
The daughter's affection
"Father and Daughter" is a short movie about a father and his daughter. One day, one father and his daughter are riding their bikes on a quiet road. Then, the father suddenly stops his bike at one spot and leaves for a large sea on a boat from a riverside leaving his daughter.
After that, the daughter comes back to the spot again and again because she misses him a lot. She comes back to the spot even when it is a strong windy day and continues to do that even after she gets older. One day, she comes back to the spot with her husband and two children. From this scene, we can feel the strong affection of her for her father because we can understand she still wants to meet him even after she has had a family.
In conclusion, "Father and Daughter" is a movie in which we can feel a strong affection of a daughter for her father.
Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
Married Coulple
"Three Days in Kamakura" is a short film about a married couple. They live in Kamakura in Japan. The wife is Japanese, named Keiko, and the husband is a British man named David, who works as a nursery school teacher. One day, there is a boy named Jay whose mother hasn't come to the nursery school and they take care of him at home.
I think that there are some strange parts in this film. For example, when they are in their room with him, David tells Keiko to turn off the radio as soon as she turns it on. In addition, at the start of this film, there is a scene when a neighbor woman puts the garbage in front of their front door. I don't have any idea about her action and there aren't any clues toward this in the film.
In the film, the news about the train crash in Kamakura is broadcast several times. By doing so, I think it implies that it has something to do with the story.
This is a film which describes the couple's ordinary life in a natural way and I think that viewers can enjoy watching this.
J'attendrai le suivant... (2002)
Good facial expressions
"I'll Wait for the Next One" is a French short comedy from 2002. The heroine of this movie is a middle-aged woman who is looking for a partner. One day, she gets on a train and there is a strange man named Antoine who calls out to everyone on the train saying that he is looking for a partner.
I think that the man's action is very strange because ordinary people would not take such an action even if they want to find a partner. However, I can feel his strong willingness to find a good partner in some way or another from his words and facial expressions. For example, when another man says to him that he will give him his wife who wants much money if he likes, Antoine says, "I'm looking for love, Sir... not a bargain at the market!" with a serious facial expression.
In the film, although the woman doesn't utter anything, I can understand from her facial expression that she gradually becomes attracted to the man by his words. Because of this, I think this film expresses characters' feelings very well by facial expressions.
In conclusion, I think that although many people will feel strange while watching this film, they will like it. Because of this, I think this film is worth watching.
Lifted (2006)
"Lifted"
"Lifted" is a short comedy from 2006 about a man on earth and two aliens who try to catch him in their UFO from the sky. One night, the man is sleeping in his bed. Then, the two aliens try to catch him by operating a machine in their UFO.
Although this movie is short, it is very humorous. Although they try to catch him many times, they have difficulty in doing that because they cannot operate the machine well. In addition, not knowing why, the man doesn't wake up even though he hit his body on the wall many times because of the operations by them. The contrast is very humorous. Because of this, the relationship of the cause and effect is very clear and we can understand the story easily.
In the film, there is a scene when the music which is playing until then suddenly stops. This scene is very impressive because by doing so, the filmmakers can emphasize the humor of the scene where the man's hip gets caught in the window of his house.
In conclusion, this film is very humorous and well-made. I think that this movie is worth watching and everyone will feel happy after watching it.
Fish Out of Water (2005)
Fish Out of Water
"Fish Out of Water" is a short comedy about a man which was made in 2005. He goes to work by boat to avoid crowds in rush hour. However, one day, a woman asks him to give her a ride on the boat because she also wants to avoid the crowds in the morning.
I like this film because the plot is very humorous. Not only the woman, but also many people ask the man to give them a ride on the boat. Because of this, we can understand that the man feels annoyed from his face when he rows the boat bringing them on board. This is very humorous and well-organized.
In the film, there is a scene when the woman above finds the man crossing the street with his oar while waiting for the traffic light to change in her car. This scene is impressive for me because it implies that she will take action to avoid a crowd. In fact, after that, she asks the man to give her a ride on the boat.
In conclusion, thin film is very humorous and easy to understand. Because of this, I think that many people will like this and feel happy after watching it.
