Scooter LaForge Art is off the charts!
7 May 2024
Yo, lemme tell you 'bout this flick, Scooter LaForge: A Life of Art. From the jump, you get hit with his realness as he lays bare his journey, from the ups to the downs, all set against the backdrop of NYC's gritty yet artsy streets. His style? Man, it's off the charts! Think childhood dreams mixed with grown-up truths, all painted on whatever he can get his hands on. Ain't no limits to his creativity, mixin' paint, objects, fabric-anything that catches his eye. And check this, his gear ain't just for anyone. Nah, it's luxury, customized for the elite. Patricia Field herself took notice, linkin' up with Scooter to bless the world with his creations. We talkin' bout celebs like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, and the beautiful Debbie Harry rocken his threads like it's nothin'. But it ain't just about the fame and the glam. Nah, Scooter's art goes deep, layerin' classical vibes with today's issues. It's like he's speakin' truths through his paintings, holdin' up a mirror to society.

A Dangerous Prey does not disappoint.
4 March 2024
The outstanding performances of Justin Russell and Bryce Barfield, who play the antagonistic figures of Chuck and Junior make A Dangerous Prey a compelling watch. Their portrayal of racist individuals adds a chilling layer to the story, making it all the more impactful. Russell and Barfield skillfully bring these characters to life, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer. The duo's ability to evoke strong emotions is commendable, as they successfully make us despise Chuck and Junior for their prejudiced beliefs and actions. Their performances add depth to the movie, intensifying the emotional stakes.

The Berlin Bride is dope y'all.
11 February 2024
Yo, what makes "The Berlin Bride" dope is how Bartlett tells the story with his own visual flavor. Dude doesn't need much talk, but he's got skills in showing both emotion and backstory. The way he mixes real life with fantasy is mad smooth. Bartlett not only thought up this crazy idea with a mannequin but used it with a purpose to amp up the story. Ain't nothing lazy or slow about his storytelling game. And when it comes to the end, those wild twists are oh so good, ya feel? If you dig that wild and clever storytelling vibe, this joint is gonna bring you joy. "The Berlin Bride" is definitely a must-watch.

Major props to this film - I REALLY liked it!
5 February 2024
Just peeped this indie gem that's off the charts! It's a comedic thriller with horror and drama vibes, and let me tell you, it's a real standout. The writing and directing are next-level, especially considering they probably pulled it off on a shoestring budget. The characters feel straight outta real life, brought to life by a great cast, with some familiar faces in the mix. I was fully locked in by the characters and the plot - had me on the edge 'til the end. Major props to this film - I REALLY liked it! They save the action and the twist for Act 3, breakin' the mold from the usual horror comedy routine. If you're down for a movie that makes you think, this one's a go to watch.

Dope old-school slasher horror flick, rockin' that flawless 70's vibe.
5 February 2024
I just caught this dope old-school slasher horror flick, rockin' that flawless 70's vibe. It's got a slick premise, keeping it real original.

One thing that got me vibin' is how the movie takes its sweet time building up that tension. It's a slow burn, and you can straight-up feel the dread creepin' in. Big shoutout to the tight direction, clever editing, and killer photography. And don't even get me started on the funny dialogues and antics at the jump. It sets the mood right. This flick might not be a game-changer, but it's pure entertainment for those who can appreciate this kinda vibe (just like yours truly!). Keep it real and give it a go!

The movie overall didn't come correct.
5 February 2024
Yo, this movie tried to get real about teen struggles but gotta keep it a hundred - it ain't hitting the mark. The whole movie was all kinda weak, not even close to what we expect. They tried to drop a positive message about seeking help without frontin', but the whole vibe was off.

They had their own drama, but the way they handled feelings and mental stuff was low-key lacking. The friends helping out felt forced, like they were just throwin' it in. The movie overall didn't come correct. It just didn't live up to the hype, straight up. I recommend you don't waste your time with this one peeps.

The characters are flawed but still feel like real people. I like that!
25 January 2024
"This Is Your Song," does a great job showing a relationship that's falling apart. It's not easy to make it feel real without making the characters seem too flawed and unlikeable. But the filmmakers handle it well. The characters are flawed but still feel like real people, and their pain is something many of us can relate to. The movie is impressive because it tells the whole story in what seems to be one continuous shot. I don't remember ever seeing a movie pull this off. The indie down & dirty feel of the movie is in part, what I liked most about it. This is not Hollywood but It is definitely a movie worth watching.

"Broken City" keeps it real.
21 January 2024
"Broken City" immerses viewers in a gritty world of economic struggles, crime, and moral ambiguity, weaving a tale of desperation and bold choices. What starts as a struggle takes a dramatic turn as the characters resort to unconventional measures, including robbing affluent homes for financial gain. This film tackles economic injustice with a darker, more thrilling perspective. The indie, down-and-dirty quality enhances its allure. This is not a Hollywood movie; it feels like a raw and authentic portrayal of a harsh reality. The film delves into the messy world of crime, starting with good intentions and spiraling out of control, portraying a reality where there are no winners. "Broken City" keeps it real.

"Cabin Tales" may not follow conventional cinematic norms, but its unconventional approach challenges viewers to embrace the unpredictability of storytelling. Despite initial reservations, I found myself captivated by the movie's uniqueness and watched it through to its conclusion, intrigued by its storytelling choices. While each story presented might differ in style and substance, they collectively weave a tapestry of creativity and imagination. The diversity in narratives offers something for everyone, whether it's the suspenseful twists or the unexpected humor embedded within. It's worth a watch.

A deeply moving and poignant documentary
12 November 2023
"Who Said You Can't: African American Women in Science" is a deeply moving and poignant documentary that delves into the narratives of African American women in STEM fields. This film unveils the remarkable strength, perseverance, resilience, adaptability, and courage displayed by women through their authentic life stories. However, this documentary transcends its focus on African American women in science. It serves as a powerful testament to human resilience and determination, offering a heart-wrenching yet truly inspiring portrayal of individuals overcoming societal challenges. While the stories of these women are undeniably compelling, the true essence lies in the broader message-it's not just a documentary about a specific demographic; it's a roadmap for success in the face of adversity.

For those who believe they are merely watching a documentary about African American women in science, the true brilliance of this film may be missed. "Who Said You Can't" is a universal narrative of triumph over obstacles, making it essential viewing for everyone.

Token Taverns (2023)

"Token Taverns" is a captivating documentary
12 November 2023
"Token Taverns" is a captivating documentary that takes a nostalgic journey back to the 1980s, a time when local video arcades were the epicenters of social life. As someone who spent their formative years in these gaming havens, watching this documentary was a delightful trip down memory lane. However I must premise this with the fact that this documentary was produced in 2020 and does spend a great deal of time discussing the pandemic which is not as interesting as the topic of video arcades themselves.

The documentary not only resonates with those who lived through the arcade culture but also offers a compelling viewing experience for anyone interested in the social fabric of the 1980s. The interviews are engaging, providing firsthand accounts that enrich the narrative. The camera work is skillful, capturing the essence of the arcade experience, and the editing is seamlessly executed. I only wish more time was spent on the social impacts the video arcades had in the 1980s and less time on how the pandemic of 2020 impacted today's retro arcades.

Happening upon this indie gem was indeed a fortunate discovery!
12 November 2023
"Dirty Beautiful" stands out as a finely crafted indie film, showcasing exceptional direction and performances that elevate it beyond the typical romantic comedy genre. From the outset, the narrative unfolds as a delightfully chaotic love story, diverging from the conventional. Jordan Monaghan's portrayal of Kat is a tour de force, capturing the audience's attention with a compelling mix of humor and occasional intensity. While the premise of two people confined in an apartment is familiar, the film takes a unique approach, presenting main characters who are refreshingly honest and charming. Their struggles feel authentic, providing a genuine and relatable dimension to the story. In the realm of low-budget indies, "Dirty Beautiful" stands out for its outstanding writing and performances, offering a refreshing and captivating experience. Happening upon this indie gem was indeed a fortunate discovery!
