OK, but not great.
30 December 2004
Though not out on DVD, this movie is currently playing in high def and Dolby 5.1 on INHD. Too bad the 'movie' is not very good. Basically it's the story of a DJ set out to interview ABBA, and he travels to Sidney to get the interview. A comedy of errors stops him from getting the interview throughout the whole movie. The plot is about as stupid as you can get, and ponderous to watch. However the movie has plenty of good concert footage (and a few shots from press conferences etc...). It's a shame most songs are not played in full (like SOS), but a few are (Dancing Queen at the end is incredible). Overall, OK for the ABBA completist, but to the average fan just give us a complete concert without the stupid 'plot'!

Simply put, the best movie ever made.

Nothing more to say then the summary. It's that great. But I have to put 4 lines in the comment, so... Jackson does JRR total justice, only making slight changes when it enhances the story to film conversion. Nothing is missing. When was the last time you sat riveted through a 3 HOUR movie! (can't wait for the DVD with 30 extra minutes, can't wait for the other 2 movies...)

Average, ordinary action movie. Not that great.

I don't get it. How is this movie is so popular? It's not all that good, it's just an average, ordinary action movie. It's such a shame because I love the Spidey comics, but this movie does not due Spidey justice. First of all they watered down the whole story line, Gwen Stacy (and the tension of two girls) is gone. Harry's drug problems which caused such a furor by mot being approved by the comics code are left out, just to name two. What's left is a sacchrine love / action story. Second, it's just average and predictible. No different then any Swartzenager or Segal movie. Yeah, there are good scenes, and the action is fun. Tobey is good as Spidey, though Kirsten Dunst is not very good as Mary Jane. Dafoe is good, and it's nice to see someone from the great Freaks and Geeks show doing something (James Franco as Harry). Overall 2 1/2 stars at most. Wait to rent it on DVD, your not missing anything great.
