Batman Begins (2005)

Very, Very Good Start to Something Extraordinary
6 February 2024
Well done, Christopher Nolan! A very successful attempt to recreate the story of Bruce Wayne (Batman) in a realistic, dark way, totally different, however, from Tim Burton, whose films I also like very much.

In this case - Nolan behind the camera is perfect. He creates suspense very well, the action scenes are well shot, and Christian Bale in the lead role is the perfect choice. The way he turns into the Black Knight is super, super interesting and a joy to the eye. Liam Neeson is very well cast as his teacher, whose character has very questionable moral principles. Young Killian Murphy also gets kudos for his work here. Katie Holmes and Gary Oldman are very cool, and Michael Caine is probably the best thing in the whole film.

The ending is brutally cool and sets everything up perfectly for the next film in Nolan's trilogy, The Dark Knight (2008), which in turn is already for me one of the greatest films ever made thanks of course to the late Heath Ledger.

What I didn't like - maybe the pacing at times; it was kind of boring as the villain in the film isn't particularly interesting and the last 30 minutes weren't anything impressive except for the last scene.

Final score: 7/10.

Are You Talkin' to Me?!
6 February 2024
The movie is cool, at least as I recall. DeNiro is perfect in his role as a man who is fed up with the evil society and turns against everyone - he portrays the role of a sociopath perfectly.

The story is interesting, brilliantly filmed and told. After all, the director is none other than Martin Scorsese :)

Not my type of story though and maybe that's why I've downgraded a bit, but then again if I watch it now as an older I might change my mind.

Overall I enjoyed it and I think every person who likes 70's cinema should watch this Scorsese classic. Quite a few new films are trying to imitate DeNiro's character.

Final score: 6/10.

Almost Perfect "One-Shot" War Film
6 February 2024
A phenomenally shot and acted war film. Congratulations to the cinematographer and director who set out to shoot the film as if it was a One-Shot all along!

The cast is super interesting - well-known actors appear in between and play key roles to the story. Lead actor George MacKay steals the show of course - very well done.

The tension is non-stop and "1917" (2019) is watchable in one breath. The only reason why I don't rate the film a 9 or 10 out of 10 is that there were 3 scenes that were extremely unrealistic and that annoyed me a bit, but everything else is perfectly polished.

Congratulations!

Final score: 8/10.

Very Fun Crime Movie with Great Acting and Pacing
6 February 2024
Super fun crime story that I don't regret watching. It's not one of those movies with the most unexpected plot or twists, it comes very little closer to Tarantino's style, and the actors play their roles perfectly. Guy Pearce is phenomenal. Not just him de, but he got in my head the most it seems :)

I recommend it to everyone - there's a bit of everything in this film. It's maybe a bit brutal at times, but that brutality somehow passes and is easy to watch. The pacing of the film is top notch, I have no quibbles with it.

So if you get a chance - watch it; super chilled out and interesting. Not the greatest masterpiece, but definitely something to see :)

Not My Type of a Guy Ritchie's Film
6 February 2024
After watching Guy Ritchie's masterpiece "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" (1998) I decided to continue with his other films and frankly "Snatch" (2000) disappointed me. Somehow the comedy wasn't particularly funny, nor did the story grab me particularly. The characters are of course all colorful, it is a Guy Ritchie film after all, but at least through my perspective there wasn't anyone memorable except maybe Brad Pitt.

The technical part I don't think needs much comment - the film is shot and acted by the actors superbly. But... I say again the story wasn't that smart and overall I'm not a fan of this movie.

Final score: 4/10.

A Great Classic with a Great Villain and an Idea!
2 February 2024
Classic. A great film that I liked, but not enough. The layouts that were done by the makers are phenomenal and impressive for the year the film was made. Really impressive and in my opinion every self respecting person who is into filmmaking should watch this film!

The lead actor plays very badly, but the villain is instead perfect in playing his role - a delight to the eye. The story is nothing special, but considering again the year of filming - congrats to the makers for thinking of doing something like this and showing something that takes place in the future so many years ahead!

The pacing gets lost at times, but at others it's perfect and keeps the interest.

Overall I liked the film and appreciate what the filmmakers did, but a lot of things were boring to me and for that I can't give it more than a 6/10. I say again though - I appreciate and understand what Metropolis (1927) is - a great classic that should be seen by film fans.

Final score: 6/10.

An Okay Action Flick
2 February 2024
I hardly remember anything. I know the action was well done, but I think it was pretty cliched overall and I'm not a fan of that type of action. I'm also not a big Bruce Willis fan, though he was one of my favorite actors growing up and that kind of keeps Die Hard (1988) from making my list of favorite action movies, but that doesn't mean I don't like it.

It's funny, has cool scenes for as long as I can remember, and overall I don't regret the time I spent watching it as a kid.

Check it out. You never know. Maybe you'll like it, I guess there's a reason it's in the top movies of all time even in 2024.

Fun Adventure with a Very Charismatic Actor
2 February 2024
Indiana Jones... Classic. A fun action adventure with a charismatic actor. A film that doesn't take itself seriously and yet keeps you entertained throughout; the action never stops, the charisma of the lead actor Harrison Ford is amazing and I would certainly recommend it to the younger generation.

It's very well filmed, the budget is not lacking! There is almost no CGI as far as I can remember and a lot of practical effects are used, which is very important to me and shows that the makers really tried to make something of quality.

Overall, the first 3 movies of the trilogy are worth your attention, so don't hesitate if you're into adventure stories and play the 3 movies mentioned.

It has its flaws of course, but overall its a lot of fun :)

Funny and Smart!
2 February 2024
Pffffff, man! This movie I can't believe how much I enjoyed until the very end! I might have given it a slightly higher rating if I hadn't figured out what was going to happen at the end, which was nevertheless very well done and the suspense itself is great for the year the movie was made.

The acting is top notch, the pacing is perfectly caught, the story is super captivating. Yes, it's clicheee at times, but actually thinking about it I'll give it an 8/10! It held me and kept me super entertained till the very end, so I'm definitely putting it in my all time favourite movies.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a fun crime story with a little suspense and a lot of badass scenes :)

Do Not Remember it, But I Know I did Not Like it at All!
2 February 2024
I don't remember it. The only thing I remember is that I didn't like the characters, the story was boring, and the animation was generally done at a very high level, but that's what I can say good about the movie.

Maybe if I give it a chance now I'll appreciate it more and up the rating, but I don't want to take the chance.

I don't know what more to write about this cinematic production, because again I say - I remember almost nothing, but I want to leave a review about it, because I want to leave a review about everything I've seen and sometime when I think about something why I liked it or why I didn't - to have some justification for the whole thing and know whether to watch the movie again or not.

Simple Love Story in a Complicated Surrealistic World
24 December 2023
The movie is super good, but I recommend that before watching it you familiarize yourself with Salvador Dali's work a bit more, as well as who Chronos is in Greek mythology. That will give you a lot of insight into what's going on in this surreal love story, and I think you'll enjoy it a lot more.

Also the animation is a wonderful sight for the eye.

It's very sad that such a masterpiece wasn't finished on time, and super many other commercial products have flopped and in the end they're not even worth it. But the good thing is that this film eventually saw the light of day, it was made and I think it should be taught in schools. Not only that, but it's one of those movies.

Final score: 9/10.

I Cannot Believe How Good This Fan Film Is!!!
24 December 2023
This may be if not the best, then certainly one of the best Star Wars fan films.

I guess it doesn't have a big budget. I also read a little while ago that George Lucas was so impressed with the film that he hired some of the Troops (1997) team to help him on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 - 2020) series. And rightly so. I couldn't believe it when I watched it.

The Star Wars references are super well and logically done, completely in keeping with the plot. The comedy is TOP! I can't believe how they even super comically, yet adequately, managed to tie in some of the events of EPISODE IV with this parody.

Phenomenal movie that I only recommend if you're familiar with Star Wars, otherwise you won't understand exactly what happens and the mega cool twist at the end :)

Nothing Good, Nothing Bad Either
24 December 2023
Nothing special. I can't say that the movie is bad, of course, but overall there's nothing very interesting going on.

I wouldn't even recommend it for super young kids again, as there are much more interesting movies to waste their time with.

My rating is 5/10, which is the average I give to a film. The song that runs for most of the running time is OK, there's absolutely nothing that annoyed me, but I say again - overall there wasn't much that grabbed my attention either.

The Star Wars references are made like - as much as passing something in front of the screen for the audiance...

I Loved It...
18 December 2023
Rick and Morty (2013 - ????), Season 1 - Season 6:

Basically, I love this series. I loved it, actually.

The first 3 seasons are really interesting, original and riveting. Rick is brilliant both as a mind and as a representation. The character himself is super adorable to me. The other main characters are carbon copies of everything similar we've seen, but the supporting and episodic ones especially - oh, they're great!

The adventures Rick and Morty go through are mostly varied and interesting. The humour is often brutal but rarified, making it interesting and engaging to watch. I'm talking about the first 3 seasons. Not that there aren't some good episodes after that as well.

After season 3 things kind of start to get stale. Maybe not completely, but more often.

I admit I don't like Rick's foul mouth in most of the episodes, but I kind of hide my eyes about it.

I really hope things improve.

Final Score: 6.5/10 /I almost never give half-assed scores, I really wish it was at least a 7 but I can't/

There's Something Wrong with Me, Isn't it?
18 December 2023
I watched a few episodes and was like, "What? This show only gets a 10/10 rating, is something wrong with me?!".

Oh yeah, believe me, I kept thinking that and vowed to give this series another chance and watch it again.

What's so great about it? Even for kids? Even for babies? There's nothing going on. Yes, the characters are interesting, but the interactions between them are boring, trite, totally unnecessary to the viewer and... and... and... I don't know. I feel like I'm really doing something wrong.

I'll give it another chance soon and the rating will probably go up. Otherwise, I'm either going to hospitalize myself in some psych ward or emigrate to another planet, because if people really MASSIVELY think this show is perfect, I have nothing to do here anymore.

So so... Good Initial Seasons, Bad Subsequent Outcomes
18 December 2023
If I watched this series alone, I wouldn't have made it to the end.

Yes, there are good moments, but the sad thing is that you invest a very long time to watch a story whose ending is clear from the beginning.

A lot of people say that a lot of main characters die unexpectedly, but I saw no such thing happen here.

The first few seasons are really interesting and inspiring, told well and excitingly. The characters are epic and appealing. That's it.

Too much fanservice is being poured into subsequent seasons, and that is by no means a good thing if the creators want to create something of quality that will go down in cinema history. In this case, it's more like they were trying to make enough money to produce their next simpleton.

I say again - interesting initial few seasons, BRILLIANT MAIN VILLAIN, total failure after that.

A Very Good Cop Drama That Could Have Been Great
18 December 2023
Well, in a few words it is.

The cast does their roles well. Congratulations to young Natalie Portman who has continued to obsess the world with her brilliant acting. Congratulations also to the writer and director who have managed to create a super interesting, different and colourful supporting character in Val Kilmer.

The story is nothing new. DeNiro's character steals money, Pacino's character tries to catch him.

The ending is not unexpected, we all know what's going to happen. Yeah... But still, 7/10 is a score I don't give just like that.

Michael Mann knows how to do action scenes, and it shows very well in Heat (1995), because they are realistic, both visually and sonically, which very few can deliver. The viewer is left impressed, and despite the trite story, all these action epics add up to an all round good film.

Final score: 7/10.

Disgusting and Unnecessary
18 December 2023
Violence. A pseudo-meaningful film that doesn't show anything people don't know. I don't understand why it was made at all.

Yes, it's well shot, the characters are interesting, but all the brutality that is spewed on screen is unnecessary. Why and who needs this?

These things are taught in school and some people understand them even before that.

I certainly don't recommend this film to anyone because you would only be disgusted by its existence.

It's certainly not for children either though, because the scenes it contains are next level simplicity, and in a negative sense. They are something we see every day on the news and even in everyday life, and we don't need someone to show us how a person would think if they were brainwashed. Everyone learns history in school.

I am disgusted!

Amazing Pacino, GTA VICE CITY Vibes All over the Place, Great Story and Action!
18 December 2023
Have you played GTA VICE CITY (2002)? If you haven't - play it, because the game is just as good as this movie. You will find a lot of similarities. If you've played it and haven't seen Scarface (1983) - do it! The movie is TOP!

I don't like Al Pacino in general, but this particular role is one of the most cult and memorable not only of the actor, but in cinema in general.

A misfit who starts from nothing but eventually becomes a super wealthy, arrogant, but audience-pleasing anti-hero who may pass for a villain in some aspects.

Interesting gangster story, non-stop action, great quotes, good characters, mob dramas and so on. Super cool screen story that I recommend to absolutely everyone!

Great Start, Falls Apart Halfway Through
18 December 2023
What a great mystery thriller... At least until the middle of it. What happened? Why? A perfectly told story halfway through the film that deserves huge admiration. It's all told and presented very well without stumbling over being something very great. It grabbed my interest and I got into the story very quickly with an interest to find out what would happen.

Of course, as in many movies, the story totally fell apart - cliched scenes and twists, over the top attempts to enchant the viewer that something very interesting is happening, and in the end, ONE THING happens.

The characters start acting inadequately, unrealistically, and it really pissed me off.

In the end, I give the film my average score because the vertigo effect used here is itself directed and shot brilliantly. Edited brilliantly too actually.

I recommend the film for the techniques used in this production, but don't expect some genius mystery in the end.

Overrated, Cliche, Boring Characters, Simple Story
18 December 2023
Animated series for children, which I started to watch, as it was praised a lot. As I thought - I did not like it.

The animation isn't anything special, though the people did their best. The characters are - nothing new under sky. There are some interesting supporting characters, but as far as I know the relationships between some of them aren't developed as I would have liked. There's no suspense, the action is mediocre, the story is cliched and we've seen it quite a few times.

I'm not saying there aren't things I didn't like. It's watchable, and maybe if I were younger I would have liked Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005 - 2008), but that's just me, so what the hell.

Purely subjective opinion, which I leave here so I don't have to wonder what I didn't like about this series.

Not my Cup of Tea
18 December 2023
Beautiful cinematography. Perfect atmosphere, and unique I would say. Very good acting and the direction and the way the story is told, following the script, is done professionally and polished to the smallest detail.

At least from what I watched. Which is to say - somewhere by episode 2.

In general, I'd rather watch a documentary on the events surrounding Chernobyl than a historical TV series that more or less distorts the truth and somehow isn't my cup of tea.

Again saying, purely technically, at least from what I watched, the series is a 10/10. Or come on maybe at least 8/10, no less. Which is SUPER!!!

But purely historically I don't trust what they show completely, it was a bit boring to me and again I say - I'd rather watch a documentary on the events told from a true perspective.

Final score: 3/10.

Baking Bread
18 December 2023
Really good and quite gripping series, which despite not being quite as good in the later seasons as it was in the beginning, keeps the suspense going.

The cinematography is some of the greatest I've seen in a TV series. Kudos to Vince Gilligan and the team behind the making of Breaking Bad (2008 - 2013). The characters are top notch and perfectly acted. The main two create a very good chemistry and duo between them.

I'm a little disappointed in the love story, and on the fate of one of the characters.

Nevertheless, Season 1 and Season 2 are GIANTS! Super interesting. After that, the story starts to get a little fuzzy, followed by unrealistic events that annoy in a very small way, but don't challenge the greatness of this series.

Final Score: 8/10.

Well Done Movie, Epic Mystery, Many Other Pros, But Ultimately Not That Interesting Story
18 December 2023
Okay. I watched this movie recently finally and totally understand why it's been praised so much.

To be honest though, the story didn't grab me that much. Yeah, the mystery itself was interesting, the characters were well written, the plot too. It was directed nicely and the cinematography was on a very good level. Overall, the movie is a good example on how a story should be told on the big screen.

The actors are OK. Nothing spectacular from my point of view.

I just didn't find the story itself very interesting, but in the end I don't regret watching it. It's good, but that's it.

Cinematography at its Best. Story at its Worst.
18 December 2023
Oh man, brilliant cinematography. That's this movie. Everything else is an Americanized 1001 Nights tale that never happened, and it would behoove the filmmakers to track down the facts first, then create something like this.

Honestly - I'll admit it - I didn't watch the movie until the end because of the guy I felt for after trying to give it a chance. A boring story that could have been written or recreated documentary style in times more interesting. Unpleasant in every way main character who glorifies the US and I think we have to be very blind not to see it.

I don't understand what people see so much in this production except again I say phenomenal cinematography that deserves attention and awards.

Final score: 3/10.
