The Heart of a Spider
6 July 2012
As a person who constantly yearns for new ideas, new stories, and new adventures, I found myself questioning my own morals in this film. When I look at the movies that have come out this year and are soon to come out, I see one word - unoriginal -- The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises, Les Miserables, Rock of Ages, Skyfall, The Hunger Games, and The Avengers. The last two have broken into the top fifteen US box office champions of all time! It's amazing how books, redo's, and sequels can be so wildly successful and yet so disconnected to originality.

Tonight, I witnessed something beautiful and magnificent beyond belief however. I saw how two wonderful actors - Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone - could turn an extremely overdone and unnecessary reboot into something more lovely than any previous version.

This is a completely original take on an overused classic tale, and it is solely due to the power of the main two actors. I don't know how to thank both of them enough. Expect your first Oscar nominations to both of you this year.

To the Amazing Spider-Man and Gwen. My heart goes forever out to you <3

Spielberg at his Best
21 December 2011
I went ahead and saw the midnight premiere last night with a few friends of mine, and I was surprised to see only two other small groups there. The theater was basically empty. I guess I should have expected that however, seeing that this is based off of French comics that never really kicked off in the US.

Nevertheless, I must say that this movie is now my 8th favorite movie of all time. The animation was absolutely breathtaking and photo-realistic. The animated reflection and refraction of society through magnifying glasses, bubbles, water, etc... was unbelievable! The story line might not have been brand new, but it was executed superbly. Spielberg was sure to strip the story to its bare frame and then add on his own layers of pure ingenious symbols, motifs, and unique conflicts. Every scene was brilliant. The best scene in the entire movie is a chase sequence towards the end. It is by far the greatest chase sequence I have ever seen in my life. Nothing compares to it at all. Although this was Spielberg's first animated film, animation was no difficult field for him to master. If I don't see a sequel to this movie in a couple of years, I'm going to be one unhappy camper. This movie will win at least an Oscar for best animation this coming year, and it's sure to take you to a whole new world and back. See it in theaters. See it in 3D. Don't regret those 16 dollars lost. And watch it again and again. This movie is what storytelling is all about.

Toy Story 3 (2010)

A Simple Teenage Review of TS3 *NO spoilers*
18 June 2010
I just have to say that this is without a doubt one of the BEST movies of the decade. It beats out Toy Story One and Two a million to one. It causes you to laugh hysterically at parts and ball your eyes out of sadness at others. (Keep in mind that I enjoyed the first two)

It's got something for everyone. It's great for children, PERFECT for older teens, and even great for adults. There were quite a few very emotional adults in the theater I was in. All around, it's not audience age specific, but I do recommend having seen the others before this one if you haven't. Although the others aren't NEARLY as good as this one, you feel more attached after having seen the others.

Another note: The 3D doesn't really add or take anything away from the movie, so if you want to save some money, see it in regular theaters. It's up to your personality, but it really doesn't add or subtract. It's just there.

Confusion towards "Edward Scissorhands"
3 June 2010
NO SPOILERS!!!!

Can someone please explain to me how the movie got an overall rating so high on both IMDb (8.0/10.0) and Netflix (3.8/5.0)? I just can't fathom it. The birds eye view at the beginning was very noticeably a mini model set, the make-up was noticeably make up instead of "real" looking, the dialog was on the nose (but not over the top, making it now work. It worked in "The Truman Show", but here, it failed), and the entire story- line, although timeless, didn't bring out the TRUE mood and spirit of snow. Unlike what Cameron does with classic tales and what Burton usually does nowadays to tales, I felt NO new eye to this tale at all. I felt that on the contrary it was turned on its head when brought forward.

Can someone please share with me something I'm missing, and don't bring up the "It was meant to be fake" card, because if "The Truman Show" can be purposely fake AND brilliant in doing so, I'm sure Burton could have too.

Hope I'm not angering anyone. I'm just VERY confused and disappointed. :/

Teenage/Childhood MASTERPIECE
16 October 2009
I just saw the movie tonight in my homemade costume that seemed to create a lot of attention with people and their cameras.

There's only one way to really like and understand this movie, and it's to be a teenager and/or a child. Most adults, as a fact, will not "get it" and its true ingenuity. Some do, but our theater was packed and most of them were kids or teens. At the end there was even a standing ovation and it was like everyone was family in the theater for those credits. It was absolutely amazing.

It'll make you feel like you want to be that age again, along with the excitement, depression, and love all involved in it. Of course it drags on at certain parts, and it has really not much to do with the book, as was opposed by many here and on other sites, but when you turn to look at the person next to you after the film is over, I can almost guarantee that you're going to smile and give him/her a hug as if it were the only moment in the world with a point.

I don't see it winning an Oscar, but already it has and will capture the hearts of millions of kids, teens, and even some adults, around the world. It's the story of a lifetime in childhood that only those that envy to be/are children will learn to truly appreciate no matter the age or size.

TNT They definitely know drama!
7 February 2009
To summarize this story in a nutshell, it's about an amazing neurologist named Ben Carson, who started off with nothing. He was dumb and unimaginative with a very low self esteem. As he goes through the years some things get worse with relationships and such, as others get better, like knowledge, but he grows up to be this neurologist, the best in the world and his jobs range from checking over babies to stopping daily seizures. The movie goes through all his good times and his bad times from start to finish.

I know it doesn't sound that interesting, but it really is. It seems slow at some parts, but all the characters put out wonderful dramatic performances. I almost cried there at the end. The writers put a lot of time into this with some excellent dialog here and there. The director did a good job too. It's not superb quality, but everything about this movie was great. Something else to keep in mind is that this is based on a true story and it's a book. I haven't read the book, but I've heard it's wonderful. If you've read it and you're scared the movie will suck, don't worry, it doesn't.

I guess that's about all there is to say about this movie. Once again, good job TNT. But if I were you, I would've sent it to the cinemas first.
