Challengers (2024)
Boring Boring Boring
So this movie was supposed to be a fun light hearted couple of hours of entertainment. So I went. Hoping. But....oh dear. Within ten minutes I was seriously considering walking out. But that would have been awkward, so I stuck with it, praying it would develop into something remotely watchable. I waited, and waited, and waited......sadly it got even worse. The film meandered around, aimlessly jumping from one pointless scene to another, horrible music thumping away adding nothing. The story was pathetic, thin, very boring. The acting was shockingly bad, none of the main characters were any good. Please do not see this movie unless you have insomnia.
The Holdovers (2023)
Went because of good reviews, but.......
OK so this has received a load of amazing reviews. Must be a fantastic film, maybe one of the best this year. Golden Globe awards, and tipped for other luvvie awards from the industry. Settled in with a box of popcorn, eagerly anticipating a really satisfying two hours of entertainment. And.....it left me wondering what all the fuss was about. I wanted to come away from the cinema feeling good and energized. I just felt flat and empty. Story meanders around, script is quirky and occasionally amusing, performances are ok I suppose, Paul G is believable and very much the core of the two hours, the rest of the cast are, well, meh..... Film was too slow for me and just came to a crawling finale. Sorry, not for me.
Argylle (2024)
Stupid and very boring
There, I've said it. Had time to kill on a Sunday evening, read the reviews on IMDb and elsewhere and reckoned it had half a chance of entertaining me for a couple of hours. Sadly I am really losing my ability to pick a decent movie to watch. This was one of the most dreadfully boring and ridiculous movies I have ever seen. The story - was there even a story? - was awful. Disjointed, unfunny, meaningless. The acting was so bad. The special effects were, well, loud and went on far too long. This film apparently had a huge budget, but I would be amazed if they take anywhere near it - wish they hadn't had my hard-earned cash.
Confidential Informant (2023)
Do not waste your time!
I bought a ticket to this movie because I assumed that any cop movie starring Mel Gibson would be worth watching. After all, he is a giant of TV and movies, and has a wonderful back catalogue of work with some really memorable performances and great storylines. Oh how the mighty have fallen. This film was a complete turkey from the first minute to the last. And Mel hardly has much to do with the movie, only appears in a few poorly scripted, predictable scenes. This is a boring movie, I was constantly waiting for something interesting to happen, but to no avail. Thankfully the end came and I escaped out of the cinema back to the real world. Oh Mel, what happened??
The Beekeeper (2024)
So bad!
Well, here we go again. Jason Statham as the moody, fearless, tough guy, taking on the world and coming out with barely a sweat as he fights off allcomers armed with all manner of weapons. I wonder whether he ever gets any scripts which portray him as anything other than a bruiser? Just a thought. I think the director must have a set quota of baddies to be destroyed every five minutes or so, whenever I nodded off I was immediately woken by the sound of a violent altercation between JS and a group of thugs, who of course always ended up in a broken heap. Seen this movie before, JS rides off into the sunset unscathed.....
No Way Up (2024)
Not worth your time
A really poor movie. Dreadful acting.....I mean, just dreadful! Empty story, sad characters, not much of a climax. Fell asleep twice, but clearly didn't miss much. 90 minutes I will never get back. It beats me why actors ever agree to do movies like this, they must be really desperate because it surely won't do their career any good at all. The script was appalling, so predictable, and the music was just lifted from so many other disaster movies. It is listed as horror, but I must have missed that bit. Also thrilling, but I am still struggling to understand what was thrilling about the film. Avoid.
