Andromeda (2000)
Excellent series with great individual inventive episodes which show great depth and spirit.
This series on the whole was excellent. There wasn't any great compromise in storyline or character. I cannot really give any valid criticism that would not seem to be petty or vindictive. Like Earth: Final Conflict, this series showed that spirit and good will isn't always in the shape of a fist or laser blaster, and life is or seems surrounded by uncertainty, and good will always survive even if it doesn't always win. The end seemed like just another chapter in a book. Everybody survived and like other science fiction series, it seemed like they could have gone on forever, but there had to be an end. I'm looking forward to other science fiction shows as well as a possible sequel series to Andromeda.
Enterprise (2001)
Wonderful series with great potential
Everybody in this series is great. I have no complaints. Its becoming even better since more action and danger have been interjected. If I remember some vague Star Trek history, the region in which they are heading became the most populous of the area explored by the Federation. This means they will be making more first contacts than DS9 or Next Generation. Another thing, I love the theme song and the beagle. Thank you.
Days of Our Lives (1965)
Great Saga that is being taken down by a cheap storyline
I want to say that I am 35 years old and have been a fan since I was four years old. My mother got me hooked on it. I loved all the characters that have been there for years and was always looking forward to old characters returning. Days of Our Lives has a unique chemistry that other soaps do not. This magic is being perverted by a mundane and cheap storyline as of September or October 2003 onward to the present and it's still not done. There could have been more complicated and better departures for the deceased characters instead of killing them. All this has to do is the greed of NBC and the trite and unrealistic writing of the current writer. They are "Passionizing" and "Beverly Hills 90210ing: the College and After Years" to this dear soap. They are doing this to attract a younger audience, but in doing so they are forgetting who has been watching the soap for years. It's par for the course for the network who canceled at least two other soaps I know of. One was canceled just within the last five years or so. What I would propose is that all this when it runs it's course turns out to be a bad dream of Sammy's and a new series comes about when the real Salem goes on and the series with the murder storyline goes on. Call this one Salem: The Next Alternate Reality. They can "Passionize" it all they want to.
Battlestar Galactica (2003)
Very disappointing revamp.
Let me begin by pointing out some good points about the mini-series. Some good original characters. Starbuck, the female cylon and the replacement president of the council were great characters. The special effects were good. The so-called tie-in with the old series showing the old cylons, cylon and viper ships and the basestar was good. The brutality of the people dying was done to devastating effect. This ends the good points about the mini-series. The bad or disturbing points were many though. The mythology of the original and even the tone surrounding the mythology was gone. The language was not even explainable. These characters use familiar terms that should not exist with a people separated from earth or the inhabitants who colonized the earth for many thousands of years. We could have been somewhere on earth for all I knew except for mention of the twelve colonies and Kobol, as well as the space scenes. Second of all, the special effects were good but didn't knock my socks off. They were no more special than the original Battlestar Galactica, or the various Star Treks minus the original series or Babylon 5 for that matter. The tie-in with the old aspects of Battlestar Galactica may have been to pay homage or connect with the parent series. If so, it was very poorly done given that the background history was so different from the original. I see very clearly influences like Das Boot, Babylon 5, the Alien series of movies, Space Above and Beyond and the Terminator movies (the origin and actions of the cylons themselves) and maybe the Manchurian Candidate. Well, I could go on but I won't. I would give this series a B if it didn't call itself Battlestar Galactica. Instead I'll be liberal and give it a C+. I would recommend that it stay as a series of mini-series if it stays around at all at SCIFI channel. It's not interesting enough to stick around as a series. Also I want to make a statement regarding Ron Moore and company regarding the "death" of new planets per week. This sounds arrogant and used as a fence against naysayers or opponents of the series. In the science fiction universe there is plenty of room for that and other life forms. I personally believe that there is room enough for three Battlestar series. The new mini-series on SCI-FI, the new concept by Glen Larsen using the Battlestar Pegasus, and the new proposed series by Richard Hatch which brings back the old characters and add some new ones without compromising everything. Last I heard this was possible. Another thing, I would ask Richard to bring his Magellan series to television. It's been awhile since I heard anything about that.
Taken (2002)
An interesting premise suffering from too many personalities.
I liked this series to a point. I really appreciated the warm feelings of love and family this series gave me on one hand and mystery and dread on the other. But I felt that whoever was responsible for turning what could have been a more interesting character of the woman who was of the third generation of UFO scientists/hunters/secret army into a cold blooded killer who killed her father and then killed her lover (who by the way was the most interesting character in the mini-series was out of the blue, uncalled for, and really felt added on to just increase the violence to "balance out" the Spielberg moments. This more than anything else turned an A review into a B minus.
BeastMaster (1999)
A great series with heart and a great message about animals
This series warmed my heart and I was sad to see it go. I did feel that they left too many questions unanswered. Maybe they will make a movie or series of TV movies to answer those questions. More sorceress and the wizard would be great. I didn't believe the wizard died. It was unconvincing. The evil ruler was excellent. All in all I give it B plus.

Earth: Final Conflict (1997)
Overall, really very good but some noticeable and irritating flaws.
This was an excellent series. It was well worth seeing every episode. The acting was great and most of the stories were on par with other 90's and 00's science fiction shows. However, this series suffered from from some rather irritating drawbacks. Number one problem, the actors came and went too quickly and I was really saddened that they chose to leave the series or were written out too soon. Boone, Lilly, Augur, and Liam all went too fast. I felt the explanation of Boone's death in the second to the last episode was preposterous. Boone faced and beat death more times than the average person and he was incredibly intelligent. Plus he had Talon energy within him which would have protected him from the Atavus creatures. In my mind Boone was and is still alive. Also, Lilly who was not totally Juridian at the end and could have survived with her son, who was not all Juridian but part human. I also felt Augur gave up too quickly. In my mind, he became Boone's number one guy when Boone came back "from the dead". I was satisfied with Liam's appearance at the end. Number 2, the writing was a bit chaotic as far as trying to catch up with all the cast changes. All in all,a very good show.
