Annie Live! (2021)
Lover of any "Annie"
My absolute favorites were the orphan girls. They were so talented, enthusiastic and skilled! Once they sang and danced, the show became great viewing for me.
I agree with those who said the sound was strange...I hardly understood Ms. Henson most of the time. Also agree that her casting was odd and she overacted most of the time. Couldn't believe she got so many laughs.
But overall, it was very heartwarming and seemed to be what we need right now. There were tears in my eyes when they brought on the understudies (?) singing all together with the cast for curtain calls. So inclusive!
C'era una volta (1967)
Sexier than now?
This splendid movie showed on TCM today. Altho' the Prince and the Dishwasher only kissed once or twice, the story was SO much sexier than today's movies that go all the way and show many buffed-out body parts.
And, ladies, when Omar Sharif stares at La Loren across a field with him in princely garb and those high leather boots ... that's better than six nude Ewan McGregor's! Hurry up and watch it!
My only problem with the movie was that many of the actors playing peasants (and at times, Loren) spoke with heavy Italian accents and so quickly that I could not understand all the phrases. (Movie had no captions on TCM.) It was dubbed in English but not by native English speakers, which was probably the cause of the problem.
Elephant Walk (1954)
Excellent in its genre.
In the context of its times, a great movie, but a bit of fluff to us watching in 2004. Agree with all reviews below re: lush scenery, a well-dressed Liz, great panoramas of tea plantation.
But even in 1954, didn't viewers notice that the elephants couldn't be more peaceful -- just doing their circus tricks while menacing music played??
Gosford Park (2001)
A brilliant film....the most engrossing and entertaining I've seen this year.
Gosford Park is a sparkling, delightful, enthralling, intriguing, delectable delight!
Brilliantly directed, it is a film about human relationships in an aristocratic world, with the murder mystery almost an aside. This superb film is flawlessly acted and beautifully shot. Altman must feel that his vision for this film was fully realized.
It did not bother me at all that the film really needs to be seen twice, the second time to find every clever detail, and for us Yanks to "get" every bit of dialogue.
The film requires incredible concentration....which probably accounts for the under-50s crowd wondering what the fuss was about.
