12 Years a Slave (2013)
Don't touch the soap
You can't beat the acting in this movie. It was done so well, I can't imagine having to act out a movie like this and being sincere to your part. I'm really impressed by many actors in this movie for the part they had to take on and act out. Sometimes I wonder if they took these real peoples stories or if they modified them to make them more interesting. The script was written very well and very thought out. I also really enjoyed the parts where he put the nice scenery into the movie to break up all the tragic parts. It seemed that he slipped those parts in right after a really tragic point to break up the uneasiness. I liked the little sounds that where added in.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013)
This is a must watch!
This film does an excellent job of showing the story of Mandela. I believe that having Idris Elba playing Mandela was the right choice to make. He played that position so well, it really felt like he was actually Mandela. The film felt very real and authentic to the actually event. Its awesome that they a actually filmed this film in the locations that it actually happened. Every bit of tension you could feel as you were watching. The acting was done very well and all the costumes and make up that had to be done must have taken a lot of time. The editing and the music were all done well and used properly. All around this is a great film to watch to learn a little bit about Mandela's story.
Desert One (2019)
Having the Guts to Try
This documentary was done very well in the way that it tells the story. It is so hard to show what really happened when you don't have pictures or videos. I think they choose to do the right thing with having the animations to show the parts that they didn't have other film to work with. They also did a great job of showing all the perspectives of the people involved. They had the perspective of the hostages, and the kidnappers, politicians, families of the hostages, the men that went on the rescue mission, etc. It was cool that they got Jimmy Carter, the president at the time to do some interviews and reflect on his time as a president while trying to bring the hostages home. I also enjoyed all the interviews that they had to tell the story the way it really happened.
Blackfish (2013)
True or Not
I believe this film to be informative. Although it is informative there does seem to be some bias opinions and things said to portray the idea of orcas being kept in captivity. I am glad that they did have a lot interviews but it did seem that all the interviewers were saying the same thing. In an interview they said that an orca had never hurt a person in the wild. Which they have, cause they have sunken boats and those people didn't make it. It's just the way that they worded things to portray there idea and not see the other side. It was very obvious that every scene were there was someone being dragged down was true. A documentary was probably the best genre to use to portray the idea. This is a film that you need to watch and take the info you want and do some of your own research to find what you want to believe and what you don't.
Shake Hands with the Devil (2007)
Sleep No More
The fact that the film crew actually went to Rawanda is crazy. Its also cool to see that Rawandans were acting in the movie. I know for a lot of them it was hard but they wanted to show the world what happened to their country in 1994. I think Roy Dupuis did an excellent job acting out the true generals story. The amount of work it was to get all the extras ready and make up for every scene must have been really hard to manage. The setting couldn't be better cause they shot the scenes right where they happened 30 years ago. All of the special effects and the way they filmed them was perfect. You can't go wrong in a movie with a couple good explosions. This is not a movie to just watch and never think about again. You will sleep no more after watching this incredible film.
Schindler's List (1993)
1 Man Against Thousands
This film displays the devastation that happened from 1941-1945. It does the job so well sometimes your wondering if your not actually there on the train with the Jews. The man that they found to play Oscar Schindler is and absolute gem. He played the role so well it was truly very convincing he was the one that saved the Jews in 1945. I can't begin to imagine that amount of time it would have taken to get costumes and make up done for so many people. Just thinking how many people they had to work with and organize makes me anxious. The editing on this film is something to watch for. In between scenes is done so well cause you really feel like you transitioned to someplace else. It was never just a straight cut. Sometimes the movie does get a little confusing but I think that is done on purpose so that you feel like the Jews, that never knew where they were going the next day. All around it was a great movie and very enlightening about the Holocaust.
Cars (2006)
Fantastic
This movie will entertain anyone. The plot in this movie is golden. It is a nonfiction story line but any kid would love it. They picked the right people to do the voices of the cars. You can never go wrong with Owen Wilson and the star of a movie. The script of this movie goes along with the story line so well. As this is an animated movie everything has to be made from the ground up. The characters are all designed to perfection. Along with the music that goes along with it. All the little details make this piece even better. The moment I saw Tow Mater on my TV I knew it was going to be a good movie.
