Super Duper!
19 February 2011
The creative team behind this movie have taken the Back to the Future theme and have obviously had a lot of fun making this Bollywood version - expect plenty of 70's throwbacks with quirky costumes, hairstyles and moustaches, wacky comedy ably performed by the seasoned cast, and of course this being Bollywood a decent soundtrack - there some good songs.

I cannot see why this has been slated as a 'flop' - it brims with so much fun, laughter, and wackiness of time travel! It just shows you have to make up your mind and not always follow the crowd, especially when they turn a dud of a movie like 'I hate luv stories' into a hit.

I recommend this to anyone, so go check it out!

Oh no

This looks really promising on the DVD cover - it makes you expect a feel-good comedy along the lines of beauty and the geek. WRONG.

It fails to get the potential out of a great idea - a team of volunteers that help suicidal people via their 'Dost India' helpline.

Its flaws are many - most notably being a very poor lead actress alongside an equally poor cast with the exception of Abraham. I honestly think a quality actress could have saved this but Pakhi is just not up to the job here.

I would say that this is mostly a bad film, but does entertain in places, offers a slightly new, quirky subject for Indian audiences and does manage to wrap things up with a decent ending.

A lukewarm 5/10

Jail (2009)

Incredible

This is a really good movie. The premise is simple as it is a classic prison drama. The plot builds momentum from the beginning; the director captures the life and soul of the jail to great effect. I was impressed by this unknown actor, and thought it a good idea that someone new got a chance as opposed to the money-grabbing usual line-up. His performance was of a high standard, as was the rest of this little-known cast.

The Bollywood Shawshank Redemption? Possibly better.

An intelligent, emotive movie that celebrates the strength of the human spirit and highlights the virtue of not giving up.
