Kafka (2024)
A good introduction to the author with some neglegible flaws
Austrian Television routiniers Schalko and Kehlmann produced an interesting account of Kafka's life based on the biography by Reiner Stach, which is critically acclaimed. Actors are well casted and perform pretty well, especially Joel Basman as Franz Kafka and the three female characters/love interests
Camerawork is on par with modern productions and sound/music create a atmospheric depth.
Each episode shows Franz Kafka from a different angle of his life
Episode 1 shows Kafka as seen by his friend Max Brod. This episode is somehow the worst of them all and could prevent you from watching the whole series
Episode 2 shows the romance between Kafka and Felice Bauer, this episode is well written and executed
Episode 3 shows Kafka as seen by his family. This episode has some lengths
Episode 4 shows Kafka as seen by his coworkers in his office. This episode is well written and gives insights into his work during world war I
Episode 5 shows the relationship between Kafka and Milena Jesenska. Basically it is one walk through beautiful Wienerwald, again very well executed
Episode 6 shows his final relationship with Dora and his final days and death
The series sparked my interest into Franz Kafka once again and i will read some biography and his books.
Some episodes are very entertaining and insightful. All in all If dound the series worthwile.
Flaws: why did they cast a female actor to play author Robert Musil ?
Also the series has a narrator who sometimes talks way too much.
